Any ideas for iphone connections on a D3
just got my iphone and want to connect it to my car but no idea ......seen lots of threads for the D2 but nowt for the D3......
my car is a 53 reg D3 but doesn't have a built in phone or bluetooth by the look of it :( saw 1 item on the interweb but was a module costing £300 ! must a cheaper way ? |
Erm.. not really. The only options are either a 3rd party kit which is a bit of a bodge, or the Audi kit. But this is just for phone. You then would need AMI for music from it.

Mmmm.....thats a bugger.
whats the AMI crack then for the music part of it ? how much ? big job ? |
right sorry about my ignorance in the previous reply !
done a bit of research on the AMI aspect of things and it aint lookin cheap.....until.... i found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-Ipod-Inte...item2a07612d2c does anyone know know if this is the right part number etc for a 2004 D3 ???? seems awfully cheap considering these units usually go for around £250+. too good to be true ? |
That looks like the fella.. You'd need the cable for the ipod/HDD which is about £30 or so.
Looks like it's the kit for going alongside the CD Changer. I just swapped mine over as it's really easy. |
Cheapest way is with a tv tuner.
On av 1 input use a phono to stereo cable and run from front to back. |
check out Zenec head units, I understand the DIS works and can connect to yhe i-phone.

Sorry to revive an old thread but if antone's interested, I fitted a mobridge unit to my D3 when I bought an iphone - provides a cable for charging (still need to route that into the armrest) which also allows you to use it through the MMI as another CD changer. Phone is through bluetooth - just need to run a new MIC cable up to the mirror area - 10 minute job. The mobridge unit replaces the built in 'phone module under the seat - no codng required. +++

Though, for a similar (or smaller) amount, you could get an AMI and Audi Bluetooth kit too. |
far as i can see these dont cost much less than the OEM AMI unit
|
AMI and connectors were less than £200 at TPS last time I was there just before Christmas.

Although I bought mine from the states. Very easy installation, no coding, bluetooth works very well (with MMI and wheel-mounted buttons). I chose this when I bought my D3 because a) I was led to believe that the "audi" route to upgrade from the armrest - phone to bluetooth was either difficult or impossible - according to who was discussing it. the AMI would also have been required to get ipod functionality and a) wasn't available where I am and b) would have made the installation a good bit more expensive. This "one shot" plug-and-play device solved both problems simultaneaously +++ |
Thanks.
They have an office 30mins from where I live! :) |
iphone bluetooth
I got a similar module to mobridge fitted on my 2004 D3, it is a Kufatec unit supplied by Fiscon UK. £375 approx + fitting. Allows music to played using A2DP. Very happy with it and works just like a factory fit.
