Anyone thinking of selling an S8 soon?
I need to make a decision on what to do. Its proving very difficult finding an engine for the S8. The old engine is a write off, but I haven't the heart to break/sell it as is. But I am running out of options. I will need to have the car transported back to my house as its unfair its sitting there taking up space at Ben's then have it sent back across when a new engine comes about to have it fitted.
Stupidly I didn't bid on a 2001 S8 with a bit of cosmetic damage that went last week as was busy at work. It went for £1.5k and had Extended leather pack 3, 121k miles 4.2 AVP 360BHP V8 with LPG, Avus wheels, Xenons etc... Could have easily took the engine out and made my money back or kept the rest as spares  I just have my fingers crossed that A8 Parts put in a bid? If someone is thinking of selling a facelift S8 in the future, could you please let me know? I would love an 02. Not to fussed about 20s/Xenon Pluses as can swap them from my car but they would be nice. 100k miles or less, will consider higher mileage if above average spec. Anything considered. Budget is around £9k. Please let me know, even if its 6 months down the line you are considering selling, that's fine, I am not in a silly rush. The one S8 I was thinking of buying turned out to be a cat D. :( |
Sorry to hear the engine's a write off Amar, that really sucks :(
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you mate, hope you get sorted soon. |
Mine has now been reduced as i need the space-it's an awesome car but has to go.
See the link-hopefully the reduced price will show-it's now on for £5995!!! |
That is a great price Alastair for what looks like a very clean S8 and a colour I have always wanted. I think its actually Avus, aqua blue is what Kunwar (KPS) on here has. Any more info on the spec?
|
So are you breaking the green goddess now Amar?, seen the gearbox and xenons up for sale.
|
Hi Dezzy, not breaking it. Had the gearbox for sale as I was going to buy an RS 6 one, but the guy is taking forever to reply to my e-mails...
The Xenons I had for sale (and sold) before the engine went bang as I upgraded to Xenon Plus lights. Just want to get back in a D2 S8 quickly now, but there are none for sale that tickle my fancy at all. When I wasn't looking there were loads an loads! :-( |
Opinions on this?
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1865324.htm Great price, not sure on the colour though. Rang Audi RE spec and they said it has double glazed windows (Don't want to start this debate again, but thats what she said) It also has leather trimmed pillows! Bose, Xenon Plus, Electric glass sunroof, Electronic tyre pressure monitoring, Bose, Car phone. What do you guys think? |
Wow, seems low milage and a good spec and a very low price !
Whats wrong with it or has the s8/a8 market dropped heavily in the last year or so. Also no interior shots....is probably custom baby poo interior, with gold and gingham  |

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong..... :tuttut:  |
:)
Back on topic Amar, the link shows a very nice car in a rare love it or hate it motorsport colour. Like yours, the photos don't do that blue justice. I'd have a look mate as it is very keenly priced IMO. No harm in having a nosey. :) |
That colour is absolutely stunning :D.
Looks like a reasonable spec as well. Well worth a look and in the best colour (but I'm biased). |
If it's as clean inside as out and it's all genuine, I'd go for it.
That colour is awesome in the flesh, and you could swap most, if not all of your interior mods across. |

Its got to be worth a look, but with caution.
I viewed one, same colour, outside Leicester March last year. Mileage was similar and it needed the auto sorting, but the deal buster for me was the lack of alignment between the doors and also the rear bumper being out of alignment where its supposed to follow the lne of the rear arches. Sounded a tad rattly on cold start up too, but I have a feeling this is not so unusual. I like the colour. By the way the interior on the one I saw was pale grey. If I remember correctly it was on for about £5k |
Just dipping my toe in the water - I *might* consider moving my 8 on shortly..... :-(
Its doing very little these days, and its a waste TBH. I cant begin to calculate the man hours that I put into its interior, and there are still a few small maintenance jobs that need doing - which will be done before hand. With the buliding work going on right now, I need a crappy old 4x4 with a big boot more than a luxury saloon, I dont drive the 8 for fear of getting it dirty ! It needs a good home, with lots of wash and wax, and not building site dust and crap flying around all over it all the time. There is not another one like it worldwide I'm sure.... Stealth A8 running full S8 config, Individual rear seats, 240vac supply under front armrest, USB 5v power inside armrest, LPG converted, DVD in rear, Alcantara/leather pack, Solar roof, blinds, bose, RNS-E, Bluetooth Handsfree, reversing camera and loads more I'm sure. All this, and its in the 'old' car tax bracket so will never cost much to tax. Technically, on the V5 its still an A8 too, so there are a number of options when it comes to insuring it I guess, even though its running full S8 engine / running gear. It has loads of history (from both the A8, and the S8 donor) and crucially it has been down to Ben at AVP who gave it a pretty solid thumbs up. It wont be cheap, but it will be absolutely the greatest D2 money can buy, I'm sure of it..... :( |
2 Goats, a chicken and a years supply of horse manure for your new garden?
|
One of my fears when buying another D2 was that Ian would put his for sale the next week. Defiantly going to hold out now, just encase you decide to sell. +++
|
amar i am sure if you asked ian nicely he would let you have an extended test drive first. then you could bring it to germany with us +++
seriously i think you too should have a good chat. if the car is to go to a good home then it could not go to a better one than yours amar |

I'll up that to two chickens!

In the trade world that car would probably be worth a good £3k less than a silver, black, whatever colour, car. Even brilliant red would be better. Buy it if you like it and you have no intention of ever selling it again. If you have even half a thought of trading it in in or selling it in 12 months, give it a miss.
It's cheap for a reason and that reason is probably the colour. Fine on an RS2--abominable on an S8. You did ask for opinions. |
Amar. Here's another and quite near to you in Evesham.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...&category=9835
|
Thanks Darren +++
Tonupkid - I do like that S8, but I don't think its anything special. I only like buying cars if they are really special e.g spec, or a real bargain & that ones neither I'm afraid. |
I think thats a nice S8 for what its worth Amar - great colour, late, just had the cam belt done, not too high mileage and love the interior colour combo etc. Dont know what you could knock him down to on price, but its gotta be worth a look in the flesh and a lower offer maybe? Just a thought. . .
Nice find tonupkid |
I think you're really going to struggle here Amar.
I'd say either get a motor that's written off, but has good engine and transplant into yours, or get one in good nick, bite the bullet on price and transfer all your cool mods to it. |
Here's another S8 for your consideration
Hi Amar
Here's a 52 plate S8 in Manchester. And it comes with the schizo sports mode. And..... being sold by Suki Singh no less. That's got to be worth bargaining leverage+++ http://pistonheads.com/sales/1890778.htm |
Thanks buddy, but I have already brought a D2 now. Will let you know more details once I have collected it.
|
hmmmm.. Is it potentially from yorkshire with another one of a kind spec?
|
You guys will have to wait and find out. +++
|
amar you coming to germany in it then ?
|
Haven't decided yet Darren, but it is a possibility. Really fancy New York this year though... Will have to see. +++
|
new york will be there every day. the german meet is only one weekend per year and remembered all year. if you dont come you will mis out on an amazing weekend and you get to see some fantastic 8s and also show off your new 8
|
New York is over rated.... Sanfrancisco is way better, LA a close second. Vegas is a must once in a lifetime, but the US east coast is really a bit tedious...
Central Park is just another park, with a small zoo in the middle. The statue of liberty is actually boring, and just for tourists. The empire state building is old and not that impressive in terms of height any more, helicopter flights cant go over the city any more so they're pants, and everytime anyone so much as holds a door open for you, they expect a tip.... I'd go to Germany if it were me..... Autobahns... Yummy.... :D Dont forget an adapter to fill up with autogas on the continent ;) |
if amar has not told us all yet what 8 he has bought then it seems a bit of a coincidence that you know he would need an adaptor for lpg ! does your 8 that you are selling have lpg ? me confused

... what are the odds.... :D |
you just wont belive the co-incidence i have seen a load of audi guys today at my local pub in north yorkshire. they were all from audi srs and were having a meet there. one of them asked me if i had just bought my s8 today cos one of there members was picking up his new s8 from harrogate today after his engine broke on his original s8 +++
|
Darren, the reason I didn't make it clear on here that I was buying Ian's car was as it would spoil the effect of the 'my new motor thread'!
But you all know now. Picked it up this morning but been busy doing family stuff so haven't taken it home yet. Will get pics/details soon. It wasn't cheap but it's certainly one of a kind. Needs a detail asap as paint is very swirled for my liking then it will be passed on to James (Mkoneman) and Ben AVP for a few bits and bobs then I'll be as happy as larry! |
amar i am really glad you bought it from ian. i wanted it to go to a good owner. i know once you have give it your own touch it will be an amazing car. cant wait to see it nice and clean +++
|
Now you can come to Germany? :D
