Annual Meet - The aftermath

WOW!!!!! That would almost be simple enough on it's own, but WOW!!!!!

I'll do a full write up tomorrow, but the meet was simply awesome.

The treasure hunt was brilliant, the hosting by Harrogate Audi was superb, the return drive to the hotel was glorious, and the drive to York Raceway was sublime.

Lots more details to follow, but that'll keep you waiting with bated breath for now :) 8)

MASSIVE thanks to Darren & Mike for all their help, and a HUGE thanks to everyone who turned up, you made the effort worthwhile.

And guess what?

There's an important announcement here

Been home about an hour now, what an awesome weekend. So glad I decided late on to go. The location was fantastic, the Hotel was welcoming, great brekkie and very nice to allow us to park on the lawns.

You can't beat getting out of the South East for some great driving and stunning views.

I drove back the M11/M25 with Rutgerf. Had a really easy drive down the A1. He'll be at Dover in plenty of time. Can't believe he drove from Holland. Kind of makes me think Germany isn't that far really.

Those that didn't come really missed a treat. Mike, Darren and Tony's work in organising the meet, produced an awesome weekend. Harrogate Audi were incredible, that lunch was out of this world, they went to so much trouble for us. Loved the treasure hunt and York Dragway, got a new PB. Though how in the hell is Darren's car going so fast when its a standard car? I'm going to have it scrutinised a lot more closely next time.

Roll on next year.

I forgot my camera, so look forward to seeing other people's pictures.

Singh 4th July 2010 09:01 PM

Looks great and I'm all for the next meet in Warwickshire/Coventry (Then again, I would be). Will be happy to look for a good place to meet up. Lots around here though, me and Neil were discussing it not long a go. Anyway, more pictures please! +++

A8_Tony 4th July 2010 09:04 PM

Pictures will be getting posted up on the A8OC forum soon, just waiting for them to come into my mailbox :)

We'll be putting together a DVD/CD of meet pictures too, from everyone who turned up with a camera :)

kal_ay 4th July 2010 09:35 PM

Conan_the_Librarian 5th July 2010 07:13 AM

Started grinning on the drive there Friday afternoon, started laughing maniacally Saturday afternoon and by the Drag racing was hysterically demented!:rockin::yippee::love:

CliveH 5th July 2010 07:18 AM

Looks like you had a superb weekend! +++

Sorry I didnt quite make it on the Saturday...

rutgerf 5th July 2010 11:09 AM

We had a superb weekend!!
Starting at friday evening at about 9 UK time when i picked up Eric.
We drove thought the night and arrived at about 8 saturday morning at the Hotel.
The Treasure hunt was really good and we had so much fun doing it +++ still cant beleave the Dutchies won!!!!!!!!!! we gonne use that vagcom lead for sure so a BIG thanks!
The meal at Harrogate audi was real good and we good chat we everybody.
The drive thought the forrest was very nice so were the cars witch were coming frome the opposite site.. i know cause i saw them from really really close by:D. Darren next time drive a bit faster so Eric doesnt try to overtake ya hehehehe.

On sunday Tony showed us how nice the area is we even passed most things twice :D
The race track was wicked we dont have these sort of things in Holland.
We were the only guys who didnt race on the track ( had to drive 1000Km back home... so dint want to risk breaking something)
But we had a good look at the other who did race and took loads of pictures and recorded some movies.

On our we back Reffro drove in front of us until London witch was good and safed us loads of time. Thank so much mate!

We arrive about 2 hour to early at the ferry but could take one ferry earlier.
After i dropped Eric at his home i arrived at home at about 3 this morning UK time.

We drove 2215 KM Total this weekend and the only thing i can say it was MORE the worthwhile!

Guys thank you so much for the great weekend next year we will be there again!

Greating your friends from the Netherlands.

what can i say. this is mike at the front of the cue waiting to go down the drag strip. he has got to be saying to himself look at my new red button that fires up my nitro +++ or is he saying i am about to whoop your ass and you dont know why

PsYcHe 5th July 2010 05:09 PM

What were the drag strip results?

thebluewhale 5th July 2010 07:41 PM

Well what can I say.

It was an absolutely fantastic weekend.

The hotel was excellent, the company even better and the routes chosen to the venues were beautiful (even though we did see some of it twice . http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_lol.gif ).

It was great to see everyone again and to meet some new '8' enthusiasts.

Many thanks to Mike, Tony and Darren (sorry if I've missed anyone) for putting in the effort and making it a weekend I'll remember for a long time.

These are my contributions:

I think I have all the quarter mile runs the '8's did (25 vids in total to upload) which I'll finish off this week.

http://www.youtube.com/user/EsseOcho

and pics

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/gallows211/A

Enjoy!

Steve

Richard- I did one quarter mile run at 15.08 seconds 94.3 MPH and the second worst reaction time of 1.55 secs (I think Tony forgot he was racing!)

Reffro 5th July 2010 08:23 PM

14.72secs @ 96.1mph for me

darrenjoe90 5th July 2010 08:44 PM

we all have our times apart from tony. i think he used his sat-nav to get down the strip and we lost him for about an hour. somebody said they thought they saw him driving through the field. he did return some time later and said didn't i do well

darrenjoe90 5th July 2010 08:52 PM

my best time was
14.38 @ 97.62
and another two runs with
14.43 @ 97.18
14.79 @ 96.53
the last one was with my air-con running at full blast cos i forgot to turn it off.

Richard i am really glad you won the detailing prize but there has never been a more deserving prize than the £100 detailing kit that went to tony. on arrival to our meet this is how his car looked.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1278524734
Can you just imagine mikes face when he saw it:hammer:
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1278527299
i know what your all thinking now but no there has not just been a load of pigeons dropping on his car but if you look closely you will just see the top of mike aplying snow foam.http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1278527815
And after a little bit of tlc from both of them we had tony's clean car +++
so the next time we all see tony he will i am sure have put his detailing kit to good use and show us all a clean and polished car.

Plato 7th July 2010 08:12 PM

What a great weekend!

It was cool just driving fast in such beautiful coutryside. Most of it was just a green blur, of course. But a really nice green blur :D

Loads of thanks and :respekt: to Tony, Mike and Darren. The race track was real fun - I didn't get a good time but had a smile on my face for ages! And the best part was just meeting all you great guys (and if there was a smiley with his fingers down his throat, this is where it would go :p).

I'm really looking forward to the next meet :) Here are a few pix

Not as good as Darren on petrol.
First time I have run it and it's not properly set up but I knocked .5 second of my best run on petrol running LPG and Nos/LPG. Loads of room for improvement. Will be running it in Germany!!!

diesel986 7th July 2010 08:51 PM

That’s cool, were they all S's?

How quick is Jethro's 8? That’s a quick car if I’m reading those results right.

Not quite right, mine is a 2002 S8 on 20's with a few toys in it, 1/2 tank of V-Power and a heavily ballasted driver. (Copied from the racing driver's book of excuses)

Can't help wondering if Darren's 18's had an effect, because I was some way behind him on the clock.
