Jetex Exhaust

The exhaust on my car is getting very ropey.

has anyone got any experiance of this backbox?

I rather like the tail pipes and it should give me the nouises i want. I appreciate its not the same quality as a milltek and is only half the system - but its certainly a lot cheaper!

Mr. K I would be interested in that too..

You go first. :D

These may be worth a look too.

Not sure about the price though.

I assume the exhaust is upside down in the picture, else it tapers the wrong way on the tailpipes.

Lookes nice though +++

Although it is starting to sound a bit too raspy for me now so may start experimenting.

I would prefer to keep the stock tail pipes and have considered removing the box. I'm quite handy with the welder so had planned to split the box replace it with two bits of tube and put the box back together - so it looks stock but doesn't do anything. Problem is my existing system is quite knackered I think and I have a REALLY bad rattle that comes and goes - probably the cats but they look pretty new so I'm going the system first.

Currently trying to source a good condition centre section. Are a8 4.2 and s8 exhausts the same except the tip?

You sir, have hit the nail on the head with that idea +++

The size of the stock rear silencer balances the rear of the car out, and all the aftermarket silencers look too small.

Seriously, let us know how you get on with that mod and if you are happy with it, I may take a trip over to see you for the same thing to be carried out!

A8 4.2 and S8 exhausts are different as I recently found out. Looking forward to this KK. Try and do it before Audis in the park and come show us on Sunday +++

whats the difference between a 4.2 A8 exhaust and an S8 exhaust? im litterally about to order a second hand A8 exhaust (standard cat back) as a temporary thing and to buy me some time to cut my S8 exhaust about and repair it.

Singh 5th August 2010 07:33 PM

Not sure give Ben at Avperformance a call, he knows. +++

I have Jetex components on both my 8s and the sound is awesome. If you by the right bits and can weld them up you'll be impressed. I've blogged the build on here somewhere.

Here's one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-S8-A8-4-2...item4a99cb3b96

HTH :)

Mr K 6th August 2010 11:53 AM

that was close - i was about to order a 4.2 A8 exhasust as a temporary thing from A8 parts! they have had a dig and come up with a good condition S8 system now.

That will hopefully stop my horrible rattle (although i suspect its the insides of a cat - despite them looking pretty new and just going through an MOT)

This will give me a system off the car to chop around - i have a couple of ideas.

1. The middle box is going around the welds where the pipes go in/out, so i it would make sense to split and bypass this.

2. Repair the rot and put a pair of butterfly valves on a 45degree T just before the back box. Wire theese to a switch inside as per 'sports mode' on the latest RS4's, and to the 'squirt mode' on the shifter. as per theese from Ratsport - http://shop1.actinicexpress.co.uk/sh...ut_trimmed.jpg
But they are £200+ each, and I would obviously need two. Thats too much to go splurgeing on playing around with a rusty old exhaust, so i would need to find them for about half that.

You are getting into the realms of a full cat back stainless exhaust system now money wise.

You have to ask yourself - is it worth it on an old mild steel system?

If you can do what you originally planned for a budget, then fine, but all the other bits and bobs in my mind would be easier to justify in having a bespoke system made by a specialist.

Ignore the tail pipes, but the silencer looks to be the factory OEM - possibly did a similar thing to your idea?

Is this what you want to try and achieve sound wise? +++
