You're all doomed I tell you. . . doomed! :pint::cheers:

Yes of course I'd . . ahem. . . much rather be going to jersey for a few days. . . ahem than going to a massive owners meet and drinking festival..ahem

Quick update for today:

We went for a drive with 59 A/S8's!!!

Yes you did read that right, 59 cars, in a convoy of some great length. Weather has been really good, and now we're off to bed before doing the 'ring tomorrow. ;)

Did you all do the ring (sorry that does make me snigger. childish I know. but certain professions should never - ever use that sentence).
Anyway.
Did you all have a go.
Were any of you pushing it (here we go again).
And what were your times.
I've spent the weekend past, thinking about you lucky sods (whoops)

I got back late last night. Loved it all, did 1150 miles in the end.

Wow, so glad I went, the meet was great, hotel was perfect for the event. The drive out with nearly 60 cars was something else, our train of cars was over 1km long.....The weather was stunning on Saturday as were the hang overs for some.

To answer the question, yes we all drove on the Nordschleife on Sunday in the heavy rain. No times were taken, I certainly didn't even think about a time, it was all about driving within your limits and enjoying yourself. I still managed to record single figure mpg for my 4 laps, so I was having fun. But being a track virgin there, you can't take any liberties particularly with the weather being so bad. You were aquaplaning on the straights at points. I had to leave to come back early afternoon yesterday, but the other boys decided to stay late and got some running in on a dry track on Monday evening.

I'm already committed to go to the meet next year, wherever it will be held. We suspect we might outgrow the hotel used this year. I can't wait. In the meantime now I know the Nordschleife is only a tank of fuel and a ferry away, i might have to go back there in the interim. Got to have me some more laps and tanks of Ultimate 102, absolute rocket fuel, shame its so expensive here.

IT 17th August 2010 08:18 AM

Looks brilliant, better than last year maybe ?

I was hoping the main building works here would be done and I could make it this year, but alas not to be and definitely my loss by the looks of it.

Maybe I'll get to ride passenger next year as I'm 8 less.....

Conan_the_Librarian 17th August 2010 11:24 AM

Not yet home but back in blighty. I echo Refro's comments whole heartedly. What a blast. By the time I get back to Edinburgh I will have covered over 2000 miles and had 2 laps of the Ring (yes I can use that word Nick). Going for it was not an option, but I scared myself witless on a couple of corners and was pushing hard on a 911 Turbo on the last 1/3 of the circuit. On the final straight I hit the laughing gas and blasted straight past him! +++:D Woohoo. He was a bit surprised I think.

I'll upload a load of pictures and link to the formal report this weekend.

I'm booked in for next year and it will be a total blast I promise.

Can I just say - AMAZING weekend! Absolutely, thotoughly enjoyed it! This really is a must for everuone on here!! COme on, next year we need a HUGE convoy!!

The meet at Eddersee was brilliant, the people there were fantastic with us, great do on Friday eve and the Saturday convoy on-mass was a sight to behold!!

What can I say for the ring......... STUNNING and well worth the trip even if we didnt have the great meet before!

Here's a couple of pics: A view on the way out of Nurburg, Mike's S8 last thing this morning as we reached good old Blightly and one of Darren feeling a bit iffy!+++

A quick post to say I'm also back.....1552 miles all in!!! I think a total of 32 hours driving, and an average MPG of 25.7 (most of it was spirited) over the whole trip.

I'll be posting a full review soon, but cannot recommend this any more highly to anyone who likes '8's.

Definitely going next year!

Sounds like a truly memorable trip - sorry to have missed it, couldn't swing two German trips to the 'ring in 3 months, but it is truly addictive, so I'll aim to make it three in a row next year, but combine it with the owners meet, instead of a family holiday......

PsYcHe 18th August 2010 03:04 PM

Looks like great fun again this year. Keeping my fingers crossed for permission on next year's.

and just look at the quality gifts they gave us. ben can now do me an oil change in my s8 :tuttut:

That oil would only be good for cooking with young man!! Here, my speakers are great tho!!

I want to go back - roll on next year!!

Just_Ben 18th August 2010 08:07 PM

I can vouch for how smooth ya car ran on 102! I want some!!

tonupkid 18th August 2010 10:19 PM

I'm kinda kicking myself here. Have a heart and just say it was crap, even if it wasn't. Please
I guess the only cure is to go next year
Thanks for all your great write ups and picts

The German Invasion

Thought I'd do my write-up as I have access to the interweb.
In total I did 2156 miles, including 2 laps of the Ring. The total cost for me according to my credit card was £765. Some of that was optional like RAC Europe, priority boarding (you have to when you are A8oc) and beer, etc.

But it all started at Dover, we arrived on the Thursday evening as the midnight ferry and sleeping in the car didn't appeal so we took a hotel and caught the 0550 ferry.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/DSC04276.jpg

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/DSC04302.jpg

Then it was autobahn:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/DSC04357.jpg

With tunnels! :)

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/DSC04355.jpg
Stops for food and fuel
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/DSC04349.jpg

More autobahns

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0015.jpg

Some people looked cool (or tried)

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0117.jpg

And some got tired:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0122.jpg

Eventually arriving at the hotel no thanks to Darren's SatNav! :D

with views like this over the reservoir:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMAG0129.jpg

Which we didn't destroy the dam like our forefathers did!

The Friday night was a quiet social drink, which these dodgey looking characters enjoyed to the full:

http://s2.up.picr.de/4991659.jpg

I don't remember this bit as I got very 'tired' :D

http://www.songohan.kilu.de/A8/Treff...0/100_2404.jpg

The next day we went out for a cruise. nearly 60 8's in a line. Damned impressively organised in typical Teutonic fashion:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0047.jpg

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0086.jpg

We weren't the only car groups out. The local Chevrolet club was out as well:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMGP0129.jpg

But had nowhere near the cubic capacity we mustered! :D
The scenery was astounding:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMGP0140.jpg

And at Lunch time we stopped at a local sports hall:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0107.jpg

And had to suffer people like this changing their jeans for shorts inbetwwen the cars:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...e/IMG_0139.jpg

The obligatory group photo was taken:

http://s4.up.picr.de/4983891.jpg

Then back to the hotel for a quiet BBQ and maybe a couple more beers!

tonupkid 29th August 2010 10:09 PM

Great write up. I'll be watching this space. Thanks
