Headlight Cluster Broken Securing Bracket Repair
I expect a few of us have seen this:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...%20ABZ/235.jpg Well it can be fixed; and Audi even designed fixing it into the original design! You will need these: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...%20ABZ/231.jpg You get 2 in a kit. The part number is 4D0 998 121 Repair Kit. To do this you'll need to remove the cluster and when you do you'll find that there is a hole specially placed for this repair. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...%20ABZ/239.jpg Just screw in the replacement bracket and slip in the captured nut and Roberto is related to your mother! http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...%20ABZ/240.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...%20ABZ/233.jpg |
Seriously!?!?!!?!?!
I have suffered with broken clips for years, not knowing that there was a replacement kit out there!!!! Even asked Audi a couple of times!!!! Gonna order some now, just cos I can ++++ Nice one Mike |
I need these too. Crazy to think someone or someone’s had sat and thought it out enough that they designed in a repair procedure, obviously they could have just designed it so it didn’t brake but it would have left them with a huge pile of redundant repair kits I suppose:ROFL:

I believe you saved me some money with this information.
Gave the Audi shop the item number +++ |
Nice, is there difference for FL and preFL?
|
I. Don't know. Not done a FL.
|
Edinko,
Can you get rid of that flashing smiley face on your avatar please - it's driving my eyes nuts and makes me close the threads.... Cheers mate. |

In removing the headlight units for refurb, 2 out of 4 upper securing brackets were fragile and one bracket parted company during refitting. Does anyone have the FL repair kit (Pt No 4D0998121A)? They are available from Audi Tradition for Euro 28.80 but if someone has some unused brackets sitting on a shelf, then I would be happy pay a forum member rather than AT especially as post Brexit customs/admin charges are adding to costs these days!

Now if there was only someone who could make these plastic parts with a 3D printer AND based in the UK, that might help keep the price down. ;)
Pity you can't use the PF version of them (P/N 4D0998121) as there's ones at the following link, which are considerably cheaper (subject to import duties, VAT and whatever else to be added now). The only difference I can see; subject to there being a difference in dimensions; is that the two lugs at the back of the plastic part is different. https://allegro.pl/oferta/audi-a8-d2...121-9976424183 |

I'm unsure what exactly the difference is ...... but im sure like all things 8, its just not bodgeable.:) |
These brackets unfortunately aren't a good fit for 3D printing as they are way too delicate. The layered nature of Filament Deposition Modelling (desktop type) 3D printing means it has full strength in only two dimensions and only half strength in the 3rd, except with some exotic nylons. With something this thin, that would be an unworkable compromise.
Selective Laser Sintering (the industrial type) fuses material together with pretty much equal strength in all dimensions, however that technology is still prohibitively expensive for tinkerers like me. Dean has offered to help with buying from Tradition while they won't ship to the UK +++ |

David, if you can send me a photo of the bit you need, I’ll go and have a look in my ‘spare headlight bits’ box. Can’t promise that I’ll have what you need, and it won’t be new, but if I have it, I’ll pop it in the post to you.

Is this what we're talking about (see photos below). Is it right or left headlight that has the broken brackets?
|
This is the repair kit:
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EkQAA...PfF/s-l500.jpg It screws on in place of the broken brackets. |
Unfortunately, its a bracket off EACH body so for now i have done a temporary repair and am in conversation with Vera about sourcing a repair kit from Audi Tradition (who are not exporting to UK at present due to "the Brexit" according to a message on their site:( )
Thanks anyway +++ |
