No sound from front speakers
 

Hi all. Long story short, have bought a second hand RNS-D to replace mine, came from the same year car as mine and has same part nos etc, however when I put in the replacement unit to my car I cant get any sound from the front speakers, only from the rears, anybody any idea please?

Sounds like a simple Bose mis-match. Either you have Bose and the donor car didnt, or vice versa...

Whether you have bose or not, the rear speakers are always amplified externally to the head unit, hence thats working.

For Bose though, the fronts are externally amplified too, and unless the head unit is setup right, then it will send the front output either to the line outs for Bose, or to the speaker outputs for non-bose.

Simple Vagcom job on the headunit to fix... +++

Thanks Ian, dont have Bose, so guessing the other car must have had it, dont have Vagcom either, but can wheel it down to local Independent for that, do you happen to know what needs changed please?

If that came out of the Avus/purple FE on ebay then it'll have had BOSE for sure, as all FE's did I believe +++

Can't help on the coding front specifically, but sure a good indy will know where to go in the software to switch the headunit from BOSE to non-BOSE.

Huge thank you to Richard (PsYcHe) for attacking my unit with his Vagcom, I now have sound through the front, just need to swap over the faceplates as mine is in better shape, and find an updated CD, never straight forward is it!!

Ah, you want the 2007 + to get working TMC. I think 2007 was the last year they made but some Merc ones work with the RNS D. Not sure which though.

the teleatlas pilot dx work and they do a 2011 version, but its a bit expensive, around £130 IIRC, probably try and get a newish one from e-bay if I can, not really urgent as roads tend not to change all that much.

I'm surprised the *******s that stole mine haven't put it up for sale on eBay yet.

yeah the upgrade path is an option, but its proving difficult to convince other half that its a wise investment:o
