GTI International 2011 - Discussion Thread

Hi folks

I've booked tickets for the Sunday only (we'll travel up on the Saturday) with a couple of runs up the sprint track to see what she'll do +++ My wife and baby boy are coming too.

Seen a Premier Inn with rooms available for £29 a night about 10 miles from Bruntingthorpe so shouldn't prove too expensive, apart from a tank and a half of 98 octane lol

Anyone want to add their name to the list of attendees?

I'm down to show the car on the AudiSRS stand at the moment, but if there's a good A/S8 turn out I'll mix it with you guys if there's a stand +++

I'll be there and I expect there will be a few. I'll have a few runs at the sprint as well. As to a dedicated area...........................................

Since Revo are sponsoring, maybe Ben can have a word and have us somewhere near the SRS stand?!

From past experience of organising stand space it only needs a phone call to the organisers, but depends if enough will commit to make it viable.

Just_Ben 2nd April 2011 07:14 PM

We're sponsering and I know the organisers pretty well so happy to ask, obviously cant promise but well worth a try.
Let me know numbers soon as and I'll get on what you want!

Conan_the_Librarian 3rd April 2011 06:07 AM

TVM Ben. I will call you to discuss sometime today.

darrenjoe90 3rd April 2011 06:20 AM

got to keep up my rep for the fastest D2 s8 down the strip so count me in +++

mike do you fancy a full english pound bet with me and you down the strip together ? :)

Conan_the_Librarian 3rd April 2011 06:21 AM

A whole pound:eek:. I'll see if I can ask my mum for one...................

Just_Ben 3rd April 2011 09:05 AM

Ambber's just checked the Premier site and best to book NOW as only few rooms left and the price likely to jump due to the demand!
She'll check internally tomorrow and I'll update you but advise is book quick!! It'll be full soon!!

Adrian E 3rd April 2011 02:59 PM

I've just booked one near Rugby at £29 for a family room - the Leicester Braunstone one I was looking at is now £49 and Market Harborough is full. Makes more sense for us to be South of the venue anyway, otherwise we'll be driving past it on Saturday!

There's a few in the area at £29, but certainly looks like they won't be around for long.

is anybody up for a 2011 gti audi s8 shootout. fastest 8 takes the trophy ?

Adrian E 12th April 2011 02:24 PM

lol - doubt mine will be the fastest (it'll still be full of baby junk in the boot and a baby seat in the back!) but I've got 2 runs booked as never done 1/4 mile before so 1 to bugger up and 1 to set a time. Don't plan on trashing my gearbox in the attempt either - just whack it in sport mode and away we go :D

Conan_the_Librarian 12th April 2011 03:14 PM

Just a note on this, I am trying to arrange a pitch those on the forum can use so we are all together.

ainarssems 19th June 2011 02:16 PM

I might get there as spectator in A6, going to Coventry to get some oil and visit friends in Rugby on 25th so might drop by

Spent 5 hours making a start on cleaning the S8 this afternoon :o

My semi-pro detail booked for today fell by the wayside in the week, so had to go stock up at Halfords as no time to order online before today

Started with a pressure wash to get the crud off, then a snow foam, then hand washed so I could check the condition of the panels up close, then tried a clay bar treatment for the 1st time - got to say I was very impressed with how much crud it pulled off the panels and I only needed a couple of small pieces to do the whole car. Still need to do the lowest parts of the panels but didn't fancy sitting on the floor after doing my back in on the rest of the car!

Finished off for the night with a polish, but didn't have time to apply any wax....

Still got loads to do before Sunday - haven't touched the inside, which needs a leather clean and treatment, plus a going over to remove all the dust. Hoping if it stays dry to pull a wheel off each evening and give it a proper clean and protect. Luckily 2 are mint anyway after recent refurb!

Unfortunately with Avus Silver the car looks pretty mint even when it's dirty, so after 5 hrs work it doesn't look massively better than it did after the 1st wash! Nice to run a hand over the panels and not feel lots of bumps and bits in the paint though :D

Didn't get any pics - too knackered and needed to get sprog ready for bed, Will have to wait till next Sunday to see the results +++

Oh good god. I shall fetch the number for the gearbox company now in readiness.

PMSL - mine's had a gearbox service in prep for this so I can give it full beans with confidence +++

Have absolutely no idea how my S8 gets off the line in Sport mode at full throttle - never done it!!

Will switching ESP off help, or does it make no odds in the dry?

Conan_the_Librarian 19th June 2011 09:54 PM

ESP off. Left foot brake. Accelerator to torque converter stall speed. At amberm off foot brake and stomp on accelerator. Short shift to 2nd at 5500 rpm then redline it and let sport mode do it. +++

Get a warranty direct policy and sleep sound at night, I can put you in touch with someone there that will give you a really good deal. I've already got a deal for my imaginary RS 6.

I think I need a lesson

ainarssems 20th June 2011 12:24 PM

What is the science behind shortshifting to 2nd?

Conan_the_Librarian 20th June 2011 01:23 PM

Keep the engine at peak torque. Below is a dyno from my 32V PF S8. It shows peak torque at 4000 RPM, dropping slightly and then tailing off. I would shift in first at 5200rpm to keep the engine at peek torque. It really needs a bit of experimenting with to find the right shift points.

Or just buy a 2002 + model with sport mode.... :p

Singh 20th June 2011 02:43 PM

Getting my BMW remapped on Saturday in Rugby so will try and pop in. Have a work day out go karting on Sunday but might skip that and come here instead.
