Knocking from Sunroof

I have a very annoying knocking sound coming from the Solar Sunroof on mine, been searching for a guide on how to take it apart and can only find one on TS from a long time ago by our very own 8 God, Ian, but its so old the pics are no longer available, anybody know of any other guides around or even suggest what might be the problem please?

cheers

When open, closed, or both? Could it be something behind the console?

Mine needs adjusting too as it scratches the paint (alley sunroof) when I slide it fully open

It could also be the seals needing coated with something like silicon, mine made a bit of noise until it was lubed. Not sure if I'd call it banging though.

its doing it when closed, sounds like two surfaces knocking together when I go over uneven roads, looked at it earlier and the headlining part of it seems to move up and down a bit, not sure of its that banging against another bit or not

cheers

sounds almost like the motor/belt is running on after youve closed it maybe?
Either that or the glide mechanism has some wear or slack in it?

briang9 27th April 2011 07:47 AM

No not a motor thing, could be something loose in there, prime suspect is the head lining part at the moment but I need to find how to take it off to check whats going on behind

cheers

Have you left Connor on the roof rack again?

ever get to the bottom of this? mine was rattling this morning on un even roads...

briang9 5th May 2011 02:07 PM

No sorry, (one of my cats failed on Monday so had slightly more urgent issues this week:D) still trying to figure out how to take the roof lining part of the sunroof out of it to see whats loose in there, was thinking of getting a copy of Elsawin, to see if that helps, otherwise I think its down to our local Indie and get him to have a look. I have spent ages searching all the other forums but not managed to find anything yet, there was a thread on here from someone with a similar problem from a few years back but seems to have gone cold and not sure if the user is still active here or not let me know if you have more success than me+++

cheers

mines stopped rattling now.... when the rattle returns i will see if i can work out where its from!

briang9 5th May 2011 08:01 PM

mine seems worse when the weather is warmer must be some expansion/contraction thing going on I think

PsYcHe 5th May 2011 08:10 PM

Did you check the sunroof seal and lubricate it? could be that it's drying out and sticking.

briang9 5th May 2011 08:24 PM

no but will give that a go I think, but still convinced its two surfaces knocking together to be honest

cheers

finally managed to get the head lining part out, probably never get it back in again:(

However nothing obvious in there other than two metal strips that run from front to back around the middle of the sunroof which the headlining could be knocking against. Its def a head lining thing as I drove to work with it out today and ohh joy no knocking:)

Going to try some foam stickers on the metal bits and see what happens, will keep you posted

cheers

Dezzy 10th May 2011 12:23 PM

I know you can't do it now but if is it the actual sunroof knocking against the headlining? Mine knocks too and if i just push up slightly on the sun roof it stops. It's like the sunroof has some vertical movement in it. Dezzy's solution is to turn the wireless up a bit

Mr K 10th May 2011 05:01 PM

What sunroof do you have fitted? I ask as that changes the head lining quite a bit, Ive got a glass 'moonroof' which has the slidey back thing, if you have a solar roof or an ally one I assume there is a peice of head lining attached to the inside of the roof.

briang9 10th May 2011 05:51 PM

its the solar one, and yes the lining is attached and moves with the roof when opened or angled

cheers

Dezzy 11th May 2011 12:36 PM

Solar for me to
