Works fine here

Adrian E 2nd June 2011 04:42 PM

Try deleting the pics in the ebay ad and re-doing - could be they need to be higher resolution in the 1st place, straight off the camera, then ebay will shrink to fit?

darrenjoe90 5th June 2011 06:43 PM

All photos now working on ebay site. I just didn't know how to upload them +++

ADVISE NEEDED

As you all know i have had my S8 for sale for over a week now. It has been listed on ebay for 7 days and it is coming to an end shortly. The response i have had has not been as good as i would have wanted. I have had a few offers from people that think i am going to sell it for peanuts, i have had an offer to swap it and i have had somebody ask me more questions than i can remember then just ignore me. So what do i do now ?
If i need to reduce the price too much then there is no point in selling. The only reason i am selling is to upgrade to a better and newer car. So what should i do ?

a: keep the car ?

b: relist the car and hope for the best ?

c: advertise to a wider audience ie autotrader, pistonheads ect ?

d: reduce the price ?

Please let me know what you think.

ainarssems 8th June 2011 03:30 PM

Most people will probably tell You to keep it. But realistically You should advertise for wider audience, put ad everywhere You can, You can also put classified ad in e-bay for 30 days, try local papers, internet sites and forums also put a sign in window. And prepare to wait, this is not a corsa or focus that You can sell in a week.

Architex_mA8tey 8th June 2011 03:32 PM

definately B and C but not D
Just be patient and the right person will find it - a week or two isnt really that long in the world of 8 sales oh and good luck it deserves to find a good home +++

IT 8th June 2011 03:40 PM

They are all good options...

Like anything else, if you want to sell quicker, you have to drop price.

But at some point, it is so cheap, you might as well keep it.

You can advertise further afield, and put up with more cost, and more puppets contacting you, but may yeild a sale.

On the plus side, the motor you're looking to upgrade to is probably having similar issues selling so mau have more scope for discount.

Look not at the price you sell yours for, but what price you can stomach overall for the 'change', ie final purchase price of yours minus what you get for yours....

If he drops his 2K, you could drop yours loads and get shut real fast and be no worse of for example....

Adrian E 8th June 2011 06:19 PM

pistonheads free ads is usually worth a try - the spammers are easy to weed out as they're so obvious!

Took me 2 months to flog a perfectly ordinary Passat estate on there, but at least it was free and the eventual buyer was genuine and paid what I wanted for it.

Oli18 8th June 2011 08:56 PM

Hi Darren,

Agree with Ian and Neil...advertise on a wider set of sites.

I have to say I loved your 8 - if I was in the market, I would snap yours up in a heartbeat!!!

Good luck with the sale,

Oli

briang9 8th June 2011 09:24 PM

Tend to agree with most others Darren, these things dont tend to sell quickly and as Ian says what you may be looking at probably has the same problem, also think Ian's "cost of change" is really the important factor here, having said that dont really know why anybody on here looking for a car has not snapped it up to be honest, just be patient there!!

cheers

billblank 8th June 2011 09:50 PM

Not my colour and 6k was 2k too much for me :).

scarily 2000 and 2001 S's seem to be in the £3-4.5k range with less miles and that is what most look for. I know how cherished it was so if it comes to a choice of letting a muppet have it for 4 or me... i do have the cash even without the sale of mine. PM if desperate or be patient. (types he in the full knowledge that 4k ish would be far too low but hey, don't ask, don't get :) )

.

£3k this one now. Scary.

briang9 8th June 2011 10:47 PM

Your logic, as always, makes perfect sense young Blank, however if the ad men could get hold of this it might become, "this is not just an S8 its an M&S8" I had the chance to give this car a try recently and though I didnt take it far it just seems so much more driveable after the remap

jayzee 8th June 2011 11:09 PM

Try changing the wording in your PH ad.

Key factors:

Remap, more economical, more power than standard etc...

When you click on S8 and the list shows up, your ad shows the wrong wording to entice someone to click on it.

You understand where I'm going with this? The rest of the stuff can come afterwards.

HTH :)

When i put the ad online i didnt think the remap would be a good selling point. I thought people would think i was a "boy racer" and just had the remap done to make it go faster. I have never sold a car privatly before, only ever done a part -ex or just sold to someone that i know. so selling this way is new to me.
what can you recomend i change to make it look better to potential buyers ?

The_Laird 9th June 2011 09:04 AM

Hi Darren

Not sure if this has been covered, but I advertised my 2.6 A6 on Pistinheads, ebay and Autotrader. The first 2 were hopeless and all I got was either nothing or cons. Autotrader got me a sale eventually.

And you must have one of the best '8s around, so it's just a matter of patience I suspect

Car now advertised on ebay, pistonheads and autotrader. so hopefully i will from someone soon.

As you and many others have said somebody is going to get a bloody good S8

Singh 10th June 2011 10:02 PM

It drives spot on and is a great example of an S8... What Ian said is what I did. I Dropped my price as managed to get my replacement car at a good price so the 'price to change' was effectively the same. But I would stick at your price as I think its very realistic. +++

This is a moving goal post though.

D2's are now very rarely sought for long haul motorway daily drivers, so they've moved to the remit of weekend car / short daily commute.

D3's have plummeted, making D2s look generally overpriced and a little dated spec-wise

Resession is biting, fuel prices are still uncertain and people are migrating away from thirsty petrol motors.

I guess what I'm saying is that its a fair price for that car to an enthusiast that wants one, but that pile of enthusiasts that doesnt already have a D2 is dwindling rapidly imo.

Thus, the only way to start shifting these motors is to make them cheap enough not to resist....

Sorry. Not really what you want to hear, but the longer its for sale, the more it value declines..... as do all of ours.... :-(

The_Laird 11th June 2011 03:22 PM

But the D2 is still the best looking '8 IMHO and, having driven Darren's at the meet last weekend - well, what can I say - it's absolutely perfect! A real thrill to drive, even by S8 standards.

Firstly, I would like to publicly apologise for not getting back in contact with Darren after he answered my questions. I have already sent him an e-mail also. My reasons for not proceeding with Darren's S8 are that the mileage is too high for me, the price is at the top of my budget and I want to have some in reserve for any issues that may arise plus another S8 is on available than appealed to me more. I wish Darren all the best with the sale.

James

The_Laird 12th June 2011 06:38 AM

James

Pleased to hear that you're still in the market for an S8 and we look forward to welcoming another 'north of the border' owner when the right one turns up. And, although Darren's is a real beauty, an S8 is a very personal choice, so I hope you find the right one for you soon.

What about the Reading one - is that still on the market?

Jim

daviesbike 14th June 2011 04:42 PM

i have to say it really is a very personal choice when buying an A8 or S8 i looked at 7 before i chose the one i have now and i was offered 5k in cash there and then for mine by some one i know but you know what .... although i looked far and wide i could not find a replacement that had the same spec to match mine i may be crazy for not selling but i made a careful choice when i handed out my cash and i have not looked back since, i have only adapted what i have to suit my needs and the style i wanted so i started with a good base to work from and overall i smile every time my right foot hits that kick plate, so..... im sure your s8 will sell but if people are like me then they will look at plenty more other than just yours but someone will come along like me after looking at 5 or 6 S8's and decide YES this is the one for me ! so i think if i was you i would stick buy your guns and drop no lower than £5,250 ovno and just wait that bit longer.. rome was not built in a day :-)

darrenjoe90 14th June 2011 05:17 PM

i know exactly what you mean i looked at a few before i eventualy bought mine. even though we all drive 8's there is so many personal touches to each others cars that make them unique. every time a drive mine i wonder why the hell i would want to sell it. I just love the car for many reason.

I must be out of my mind selling it +++

daviesbike 15th June 2011 09:49 AM

well i nearly sold mine and then i thought naaaa no point for what its worth i will run mine to the ground, i intend to keep it going for at least 200k+ and i know it will get there no problems if its maintained correctly it will provide many more years of happy motoring and why not do something that people have not done i have my rainy day fund starting soon bit by bit every week and i will at some point force more air into it sc or tc or at the very top end of the scale mod an rs6 lump and mate it up now theres an idea RS8 any one ......................

darrenjoe90 16th June 2011 11:45 AM

Recently my car has developed a small leak from the power steering so just to make sure everything is working ok i have sent it to a top audi specialist mechanic(ben) who is going to give it some TLC and make sure everything is working ok. The steering rack is to be refurbished and the hydraulic pipes are getting replaced. Also going to fit the rear view camara that i bought over a year ago +++

So now ready for sale again +++

Singh 16th June 2011 07:36 PM

Just looking through the pictures again, stunning looking motor buddy. With a set of 20" final editions

This could be yours amar. you got the wheels just need the car. some say its one of the best S8's out there and it would look pretty good on you drive +++
And i am sure i could sort you out with a prety good discount ;)

darrenjoe90 18th June 2011 08:09 AM

This is it i have decided to ruduce my price to forum members only( not reduced on ebay, autotader or pistonheads) to £4995

All i need is a deposit and it secures the car +++

This price includes the private plate.

I will also throw in a rear view camara and a digital freeview tuner that i bought for it but not fitted.

I would like this car to be sold to a forum member so i can still see it at shows and meetings and maybe a trip to germany or two.

Just had the final bit of work done to it so i know it will be spot on for whoever buys it. ( servotronic steering rack fully refurbished and full safety inspection done).

If it dont sell to a forum member at this price then i will at GTI in it and i will be coming to germany in it +++

Just_Ben 22nd June 2011 10:54 PM

Can't believe this car's still for sale! I did think someone was buying it Darren - hence the work...?

Can I just say that this car is superb. I've done LOADS of work on her, most recently the steering rack seals and feed pipes and a few bits.
I love this car and she's in brilliant condition.

Really hope the sale happens soon, not that I want you to sell her mate cos she's LOVELY but I know how much you have your heart set on that other one!!

Anyway, if anyone wants a reference for this car - it's brilliant!! I would trust it implicitly and Darren's spent any money it ever needed (and some besides!!, don't we all).

Big jay 27th June 2011 08:37 PM
