Service Time
Morning folks
The service indicator is counting down rapidly :( I rang the local Audi place to be quoted £405 Cars an 07 3ltr d sport done 70k previously FASH I assume this is a routine service so hard to justify £405 What do I do, do I stick with them or head independant, I'm not under any warranty so not tied in. Is it worth keeping it up will it make a big difference when selling time comes?? I know this has probably been raised before so apologies. Does anyone recommend an independant locally North of Bham to say Derby Notts who know what they are doing with an 8? Was also considering getting the gearbox fluid done or is it best left  Having just forked out for the air pump I could do with saving a few quid but not at the expense of the cars integrity ;) Any pointers thoughts appreciated Cheers Glyn |
Defo time to find a good indy, IMHO. Make sure they use all genuine Audi parts and you'll not go wrong. If any part fails, Audi cover their cost in replacing faulty parts so no different from main dealer.
Anyone looking at your car in future will be just as happy if they know what they're about - a garage part-ex'ing it probably couldn't care less if Mickey Mouse serviced it every 5 years. Gearbox service wouldn't be a bad plan, although the cost isn't going to be cheap IF it's done properly. Defo something to discuss with potential garages. I'm not local, so can't recommend anyone I'm afraid Adrian |
Cheers Adrian
Hopefully some of the local lads will point me in the right direction +++ |

Ben Williamson, know's his 8's inside and out. I was pointed to him through this forum and won't take my car to anyone else. My D2 S8 is with him right now for some work. PM him on the forum, Revo_Ben. |
Cheers mate
Where is he working now then as I thought he had left the last place? I know he was in Burton before then Daventry Cheers Glyn |
just had a quote from this place in Coventry
Anyone have any experience of them good or bad?? http://www.thevwaudispecialists.co.uk/ PM me if you prefer not to post ;) They have said £175 for the long life or £225 for a major service ..not sure what I am due tbh Cheers +++ |
Check around other posts here to make sure that's not the place that potentially filled an '8 with the wrong gearbox oil first.....
I wouldn't do longlife unless your car racks up lots of motorway miles - if you only do 10k a year then better to do annual servicing as the oil costs a lot less and personally I'd rather have my car in to be checked over annually rather than 18 months or more. |
Ben's working for himself from his friend's unit in Burton Upon Trent.

Ben is the man to see. Hard-working, honest, and a great guy :)

i had a full service from audi for £365 from memory on my 4.2 petrol might have been less. i thought it was reasonable for keeping a FASH
Included 8 plugs, Oil, Oil filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter |
Thought I'd update this thread.
After a lot of research and thought I took the 8 back to Audi. Many of the lower quotes I had were for very basic oil changes. Some also didn't inspire me with confidence when questioned ;) After ringing around I had some vastly different prices for the work from various dealers. Ended up at Stafford Audi (about 35 miles away but where the car was first registered ) they offer to do a comparison quote on the website. So I filled in the details and they rang me back with a quote. The gave me a very reasonable £425 quote for a full major service ...long life with Fuel, Air and Pollen filters. Derby was near £700 as an example. They also pointed out the Brake fluid and Air Con had never been touched so I opted for the works and a grand total of £534. Which I think is good for the amount of work. Apart from a slightly bald spare:( she got a clean bill of health too. I know this may not be the cheapest but when you price up the filters not included in the quotes of 200-300 it starts to look worthwhile. I also know ( having only bought her in March) everything is up todate and in order which gives me some comfort. Can thoroughly recommend the chaps there too very straightforward. Had the use of a Q5 for the day which was a Sportline job well spec'd and have to say I was amazed the damn thing was so "chuckable" for a tall 4x4. Bl**dy pricey though £40K for this demo job. I'll stick with my 8 for now :) Cheers Glyn |
