My DRL mod 10mm led
well i ordered a replacment part for a 2009 audi A6 instead of messing with the cheap ebay jobbies i modded my existing head lights to fit them inside they now look oem
pic's are not great but i was in a hurry to beat the rain that was fast encroaching sorry about that, first thing i did was remove the head lights, and lenses ect, cleaned them all up mixed some epoxy resin up then fed the wires through the housing so they appear stock and there is no nasty bodged wiring look going on, reassembled them after i tested that they were working with a battery of course then re fitted them back to the car wired them up and happy days :D http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011565.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011566.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011567.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011568.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011572.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011573.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011574.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...4102011575.jpg they are quite bright and the camera has a real hard time capturing them they dont look right in the photo's but they are a really bright white lovely lights and they are now all built in to the housing +++ |

haha thats the woman that lives across the road from me she collects wooden garden objects, that one happens to be a 6 foot pig pushing a wheel barrow made of oak
|
that is funny, would never noticed that.
Great mod too, looks superb. I was wondering where your driver side windscreen wiper is though? |
Good mod, just the way it should be done. I don't like the ones stuck in the lower grilles.
Did you upgrade to an S8 in the end? Your old car was an A8, right? |
Dare I "nail my colours to the mast" and say that I'm really not a fan of DRL's.
I've got used to the old-style Volvo dim-dip lights, and while I generally think they're pointless at least they're not dazzling as many of the latest DRL's are. I find them extremely distracting when driving on normal 2-way roads, they do much more than indicate where a vehicle is. Now I don't know how many of these are add-on's as opposed to OEM but the majority of the ones I see are far too intense and bright, almost as bad as a full-beam headlight. I suspect this may partly be because they emit a lot of light from a small area, but equally what are the rules on alignment and brightness levels? Some of the worst seem to be on the latest Audis and Mercs. |
I think DRL's are great. I've had no issues with them being too bright. As far as I'm aware, there are no rules on alignment.
I don't find the lumen output that intense - I would imagine enough research has been carried out, to certify them as safe. +++ |
Marmite?

Its interesting to note on my A7 that the DRL's cant be turned off at all - there is no menu option in the settings on the MMI whereas on my A4 there used to be a way of turning them off if you wanted to. The only way they can be subdued is to put them on "sidelight" setting rather than "off" or "auto" and then they are at a lower intensity but the back tail lights are also on at the same time. . .

Neil, would that be because DRL's weren't compulsory in the EU until this year?
just a thought... |
Ahh good point that man!!
Youre probably spot on with that one. . . +++ |
It's a bit more complex than that and to do with the date of Type Approval for a new model. So unlikely to actually be compulsory on an A7.
But manufacturers can implement them anyway. |
Save I think I'm gonna have a bash at that mod looks real good have you any part numbers or supplier details for the strips ? Cheers

P.S i phones are crap (Dave)

LED day lights on a 2010 A6 are
4F0 941 067 A for left and 4F0 941 068 A for right Cost is showing as about £110 per side plus VAT |
Good job Guy, not for me though. Defiantly marmite but a good job nonetheless. +++
|
thanks Guy's yes i do think its a marmite love it or hate it, but i put in the extra effort and made them look like they were always on the car the lights are a replacment part for audi a6 2008-2009 not sure if the shape of them changed in 2010 but they are contoured to fit the A6 lower grill but they happen to be the perfect shape to go inside the headlight's as they are slightly banana shaped (the best way to put it), and so follow the natural shape of the headlight, also they match the lenses in colour +++

Looks very good, do you have a closeup of the light with LED turned of? is the LED-thing obstructing the beams from the normal lights?
I think MOT here in Denmark would have a fieldtrip with this:tuttut: Edit: I could imagine they would look even better(more OEM) if the orignal transperant plastic was taken of them(since they are made to sit outside a headlight... now you have them inside) /Jake |
sorry i dont have the car any more sadly, i now have a D3 W12
