can you call it an S8 now its been transformed

ok i have a question many people well a few have turned there A into an S but my question is will i be frowned at by other S8 owners if i complete my transformation with the final badge to the rear, ok engine and gear box are still A8 however its now 348bhp and the pre faclift s8 was 340 bhp and that was called an s8, so now i have S8 ride S8 mirrors S8 grills seating ect ect .. with the quad free flow system panel filter de cat and a remap and rolling road of 348 can i call it an S8 now or is there something missing that would render me not doing that ?
opinions are all welcome and constructive criticism +++

Mate, do what you like. It's your car. Don't worry what other people think!

My first D3 was badged new at dealer as an S8. I liked it even though there was no such thing.

daviesbike 23rd November 2011 11:02 AM

yea i guess so i mean yes it is my car after all, but there is an element of respect for other S8 owners and how they would feel knowing it was badged up as an S8 although in my opinion i have been very busy in the last few months getting things done and it was 310bhp now 348 and it dose drive much better now, when the weather gets better i will take some pictures of the car now its looking at its best +++

IT 23rd November 2011 11:15 AM

It is your car, and you can do what you like with.

An A8 though, will never be an S8.... Yours is something special as you've made it what you want, so why try and make out like its something standard?

The gear ratios on the S8 give it more kick than the extra power, so having 348bhp wont make it as sporty, and then it'll need the S8 steering wheel, door strips, suspension and sports seats if you havnt done them already....

If you want an S8, buy an S8. If you want a modified A8, mod it, and enjoy it for what it is +++

daviesbike 23rd November 2011 11:29 AM

i guess that answers a lot really, what i have is something different, i could not find an s8 anywhere that had everything that my A had, and as for the extra bits the only things i have not done are because i like the way they are for example i prefer the a8 clocks and steering wheel, everything else is S8, i prefer the a8 gear box, and finding a S8 engine is like hens teeth, in fact i think i have got the car exactly how i want it only thing i would change now is i would like the half leather alcantara seats purely for comfort but again ( hens teeth ) but when i find them one day i will buy them and ad something else

Bud, it's your ride. I'm no badge snob, and couldn't care less what anyone does to their rides. Personalise / badge your ride to your hearts content, you don't have to please anyone but yourself.

Ride on bud!

I'm more intrested to hear how you achieved 348 BHP. Have you got a dyno plot? The S8 badge will give you an extra 2 BHP so call it 350. +++

To answer the question in the thread title, no I don't think you can. My A8 had everything S8, including the seats/engine/cats/ecu/tcu/steering/speedo and I still told people it was an A8 when asked. It had a discreet S8 badge on the front grill that I couldn't be bothered to take off but I kept the rear debaged. I did consider the badging the rear though as it was no different in any way to my real S8 in terms of power etc it was identical.

Edit: I had the same dilema as you can see in this thread

Notice how I tell MoRS6+ what my goal was, well it is his old RS6+ sat on my drive as of today.

Agree with the replies above.... Your Car Mate....

Unique is Rare.... you have a Unique Car neither an A8 nor an S8...
Badges aren't going to change that.....

After I have finished my Project on the Cab..... I'll start on the S....
Keen to fit a V10 mill.... Then it would be Unique.... D2 V10... ;)

Would I put V10 badges on the front fenders.... Hell Yea...

HPsauce 23rd November 2011 04:47 PM

How about BOTH an A8 and S8 badge and this new Audi badge....

lol i do like that Hp haha, was there not an audi that was confused to as what it was at the ADI meet ? something like

A8 4.2 S8

if i remember from the pictures ?

oh and amar, was fairly straight forward all that was done was, as you know the Quad's free flowing take away some cats add a panel filter and a simple remap, + 38 bhp ok i have to admit its not a great deal of power as extra but hey every little counts +++

Singh 23rd November 2011 05:55 PM

Nice one Guy, looking forward to hearing it again. It is a nice motor and you have made it your own. +++

daviesbike 23rd November 2011 08:44 PM

thanks mate it is quite special when you think about it, there is not one with the same paint as mine, will let you have a drive of it when i see you again so you can see the difference,

Singh 23rd November 2011 09:14 PM

Thanks Guy, where did you get it mapped from? +++

My first '8 was a 2.8 QS - badged and 'mirrored' as an S8. Not a good mix IMHO. The first thing I did was to take off the S8 badges (one of the obvious give-aways was the brake disc size). Then there's the grill, the door sill caps, the steering wheel, the instrument dial, the wheels and so on....

I agree with most of the comments above - it's your car! But if it were mine, I'd just de-badge it. And enjoy the sheer pleasure of a beautiful car that most folk won't even recognise despite the badge. The '8, IMHO, is a wonderfully understated, rare and unique car. If you have one - chances are that you reflect this. The badge will say nothing nothing to most people - unless they are '8 fans.

Enjoy your mods - who cares about the badge?

Architex_mA8tey 24th November 2011 08:12 PM

Well said Jim, I agree totally +++

Well, to a certain extent I do, but I'm happy for anyone to badge however they want.

Having a PF S8 that "lost" it's original discreet boot badge and acquired a F/L S8 version during body repairs I have long resented the loss of "authenticity".

After a (very) long wait I've acquired (from A8 parts) the real thing, albeit a bit jaded.
I've spruced it up a bit, with mixed results (don't stand too close!) and reinstated the "original" rear-end look at last. +++

So, if anyone does actually want an S8 facelift boot badge, I've got one spare - fair price to a good home.
(it needs new adhesive pads obviously, I cut it off with dental floss!)
