Nurburgring Nordschliefe in 2012

Hi,
I've been having a look at the Calendar for the Nordschleife as a ring trip was mentioned in passing for April/May.

There are only 3 weekends right now that seem any good. 6th -8th April (Easter w/e), 11th-13th May and 26th-28th May.

Of these 26th May would be my preference as its the weekend before the 2012 Jubilee 4 day weekend (2nd - 5th June). I'd rather avoid the Easter weekend for the obvious congestion and more costly ferries.

So who's interested and for what dates?

FYI - The hotel we have used in the past is still €75 per night (Double room inc B&B). Ferries curiously are more that last year (£114 inc Priority boarding), so maybe we should think about the Tunnel as its the same price. Aside from that you just need fuel, ring tickets and beer money.....

26th - 28th is Monaco GP weekend (which is where I'll be) which might explain the ferry costs - I go down the previous weekend, stay for 2 weeks

No the prices are over 50% higher than last year for all the cheapest tickets at any time. The liquidation of SeaFrance is being felt.....

26th may is best for me +++

ps. count me in

Thats the weekend before we were planning our annual meet, so will it put people off coming to both so close together? also is everyone ok with the annual meet being the Jubilee weekend? Personally from my point of view it saves taking an extra day off to come to the annual meet so its fine, but what about others?

sarg 9th January 2012 11:33 PM

I usually find the Dover - Dunkerque route a bit cheaper, hope that helps

Amen to that, I think only norforkline operate out to Dunkerque, takes about two hours.

PsYcHe 10th January 2012 04:24 PM

Doubt I'd do both... Then again, the 'ring is debateable for me again this year.

End of May works best for me for Nurburgring (tho' I won't be able to confirm that till nearer the time). A planned holiday in Ireland may clash with the annual meet, depending on when that starts - so please put me down as "likely" for Germany, and "tentative" for the Lakes/Blackpool/etc

Hi,
I want to propose a date for the trip and then confirm numbers.

Just so you know the dates I suggested are based on the weekend opening times for the Nordschleife. Opening times especially during the week are much more limited than last year, plus there seems to be a paucity of weekend availability. The weekends proposed are the only one's with Sat & Sun running.

I understand the question from Neil about the annual meet and this potentially clashing, but the plan for me was to take the week off in between Nordschleife and Annual Meet to attend both. (Assuming I'm still welcome+++)

The 26-28th May is the preferred date for those who replied so far. It also offers the benefit of having full day track time for Sat, Sun and Mon. So having had time to mull it over and now the need to begin planning who what and when. Who's coming then?

I'll start the list with myself at the top;-

Not sure if this helps anyone, but we've just booked with P&O Dover-Calais, car + 4 adults, 18/05/12 to 03/06/12, £62 all in, pretty pleased with that

Maybe you should think about doing this trip in the winter and have some real fun like this guy does? :mexicanwave:

Singh 20th February 2012 03:01 PM

I'm going with the RS guys on the 9-11th April, idea being that it will be quieter on the weekday I think. Staying here

http://www.am-tiergarten.de/en/home/

On the 11th I will be at quattro GmbH in Neckurslum for the factory tour.

Going on the tunnel 0750am out on the 9th, and 20:50 return on the 11th. If you guys come up at the same time you guys could drive up at the same time, but the factory tour has been filled. You could try contacting the factory and see if they could arrange something though possibly.

Reffro 20th February 2012 04:15 PM

9th is Easter Monday, I don't think it will necessarily be much quieter on the Nordschleife or especially on the Autoroute/Autobahn's.

Even if its just the three of us on the 26th May, I'm sure we will manage to enjoy our shenanigans.

PsYcHe 20th February 2012 04:35 PM

April 9th is bang in the middle of most of the school holidays for up here anyway, or even the first week of some.

Singh 20th February 2012 05:55 PM

Well all I know is they went last easter weekend and there is a good reason for them going on the week instead, although I'm not sure of the exact reason. Anyway, you know my dates so if you do go then, lets meet up. +++

Reffro 26th February 2012 04:01 PM

I've been trying to avoid this, but I'm not going to be able to go to the Nurburgring.

I've got a promise to keep and will be going to Canada in July. I can't afford to go to the Ring, the Lake District and Canada, therefore its the ring trip that will have to be put on hold.

I am going with Amar and the RS boys :p Should be a fab 3 days

Singh 8th March 2012 10:13 PM

There are two more spaces on the Audi factory tour, going to see how an R8 is built. If you are free on the 9-11th April, let me know and I will get your name down and you can come with the RS lot.

Plan is to go out on the 9th April 0750 AM, two days at the ring then leave for Neckurslum on the 11th and get the 2050 tunnel back, there are going to be four R8s in the convoy including a V10, RS4 old and new (old running 650+ BHP) 2x new RS6s with near 800 BHP and of course mine and Amanda's 950 nm beast C5 RS6.

IT 8th March 2012 10:27 PM

I'm really very tempted by this.....

Very, very tempted.....

and I'd probably do it on one tank.... :p

Hmmmmm.....

Singh 8th March 2012 10:30 PM

Your welcome to come, Ian. Let me know soon, I can't see them two spaces being free for long. First come first served.

Was that before, or after I dissed the B5 ? ;)

Ideally, I'd have someone to go with - Heck of a long way to go on ones lonesome. If I can cadge a co-pilot, I'm in. (subject to approval from swmbo :D )
