Adrian E 19th January 2012 07:33 AM

No! That's really horrid :o

At least they didn't have to come and 'ask' you where he keys were....

Makes me nervous when mine's parked outside the house during the day

IT 19th January 2012 07:57 AM

Crumbs. Hope you're both ok.

I'd have never pictured this happening with a D2 tbh, I'd always assumed that a breaking and entering conviction wasn't worth it for cars worth sub 20K....

There arent many early facelift sports around, I've been looking at most thngs recently.....

I'll be keeping a close eye on the classified for you... +++

E.L.M.O 19th January 2012 08:24 AM

Thanks guys

Agreed, I didnt think the D2 would be worth it. I was considering selling the car, but to loose it like this :-(

Really glad they didnt get the minis though.....

I just hate that they came into my house. They also took my wallet and work blackberry

E.L.M.O 19th January 2012 09:10 AM

really got my eye out for a 4.2TDI D3 A8 now :)

but the misses wants a smaller car.....

Iyole 19th January 2012 09:29 AM

Damn..... This is'nt a pleasent incident.... Just glad nobody got injured in the process....

Hope they find the vehicle and culprits....

We had an S stolen in our parts a few weeks back.....Luckily it was recovered.... but only after it had been used for an armed robbery and taken for a 4x4 trip.....
Insurance has written it off...
Fortunatley the Owner is an Audi Nut having quite a few in his stable.... So he is going to buy it back from the Insurance and restore it.

Good Luck Mate...

briang9 19th January 2012 10:40 AM

Never nice to hear this sort of thing, just to echo comments made, glad nobody got hurt and hope things work out well for you

E.L.M.O 19th January 2012 11:45 AM

Thanks everyone.

I really hate the fact they were in the house while we were sleeping. Potentially my job can take me all over the world and I fear about leaving the misses alone now :-(

PsYcHe 19th January 2012 11:57 AM

Really sh*t mate... Hope they find them!

Nollywood 19th January 2012 12:13 PM

Wow, that's rough. Best of luck getting her back, or getting a replacement.

Dezzy 19th January 2012 12:30 PM

Thats really bad mate, it's never good to have a car nicked but to have someone in the house too.

I know what you mean about leaving the Mrs alone, as you my job means i'm often away from home. My Mrs also used to feel uneasy some nights. She now has a Knobkierrie beside the bed (Iyole will know what these are) as well as a few other bits and bobs handy to help her sleep easier. The laws have now been relaxed a little about protecting you home from uninvited guests so a damn good thrashing with a golf club or simiar she be alright not sure how you'd get on with a Beretta s56 over and under but might be worth investing.

jayzee 19th January 2012 12:55 PM

Dreadful news :( Glad you are all OK though, and that's the most important thing.

The only way to deter scum like this is to make the penalties harsher

I've said this before, and I'll say it again... Do not publish photos of your car with number plate and area you live in on an internet forum.

goglawrie 19th January 2012 12:59 PM

sorry to here about your car mate we got broxen into before christmas money stolenand necklees and earrings x2 about4 grand its not the money its that someone beening in your home police closed our case hope you get a better result

sarg 19th January 2012 01:56 PM

Sorry for your bad news, the worst part is definitely them being in the house, the car is just a car and can be replaced, it's the mental damage that is always the worst part

Amanda 19th January 2012 09:11 PM

I too am sorry to hear about your loss :( There are some real low life scum about who should be hung!!!!
Am glad you are both ok though :)

Architex_mA8tey 19th January 2012 09:28 PM

That really sucks mate sorry to hear
I will keep my eyes peeled online and also when im around London
I hope the thieving scum get caught soon. . . . Sigh

Singh 19th January 2012 09:34 PM

That does suck Neil, I've seen this car in the flesh and it's lovely. I think you should spruce up security and get yourself that D3 4.2 TDI you keep thinking about. Main thing is your okay, plenty more 8s about. +++

E.L.M.O 21st January 2012 01:32 PM

Thanks again all, I really appreciate the wishes.

I just caught myself eyeing up RS4's! >_<
the misses would kill me..... but there so reasonable! How do I compare an RS4 to a 4.2 TDI A8?!! you cant.... which side of myself do I listen too?!!!!

... The Rs4 struggles to get 200 miles to a tank ...

Cost aside which is less of an issue, I just couldnt be doing with a car that impractical !!

Adrian E 21st January 2012 07:25 PM

If they broke in for old a8 keys they'll defo be back for an RS4 on the drive! One of the most stolen cars around, irrespective of age. I just wouldn't go there unless you can put it somewhere else

Agree with Ian on range/practicality side as well

E.L.M.O 21st January 2012 07:43 PM

Yeah the RS4 is more of a pipe dream. Maybe one day.....
If I did get one I would park round the back in or in front of the garage behind 2 sets security gates.

And as for breaking in to get any more sets of car keys, i have already started making the house a LOT more secure. Its never going to be impenetrable but Im building a porch, having a rather sophisticated alarm system installed, CCTV as well as a few little secret defences.

Singh 21st January 2012 07:43 PM

Adrian makes a very valid point regarding the theft aspect, my RS was well out of the way of my family when I went to Los Angeles, and I took the keys with me and the other set were hidden, don't be put off by the 200 mile range, I know B7 owners and they get around 280-300 which is the same as me, but I have a slightly bigger tank. You'd get more on a run, I could get 400 miles from mine if I wanted to.

I thought C5 = 80 litre tank, B7 = 60 litre tank. Thats quite a difference.

I'm astounded that B7 RS4 owners could be getting 280-300 on a tank. I'd have to work hard to get that in the S4......

Maybe the RS4 has a slightly bigger tank then...

Cant be bothered looking it up, never intend to have one.... +++

E.L.M.O 21st January 2012 08:23 PM

I really, really love the B7 RS4

Singh 21st January 2012 08:55 PM

I dunno, think mine is 80 litres although 73 litres rings a bell too for some reason. Maybe the auto box in yours hurts the economy a bit and the FSI is more efficent on the RS4
The B7 RS 4 will never be as appealing to me as the B5 RS 4, but the one in this video would be the perfect Audi for me. I'd have bought one over the 6 but I wanted something more powerful. This B7 however, I love. It's the ultimate.

sarg 21st January 2012 09:54 PM

that is nice Amar, how many arms and legs do they cost?

RanjS8 21st January 2012 10:40 PM

B7 rs4

Hate to say it...they have carbon build up problems in the manifold...so unless it's cleaned up they run under powered most of the time.....

The B5 RS4 is by far the more appealling in my opinion....but there's a issue with the cams melting...so as long as that has been taken care of some point in it's life...certainly worthwhile.....

However...the above are still pretty pricey....

In this day, when there is a quite a slow market for these things...I would go for a facelift b5 s4 with uprated turbos....and go for a budget of 5k....you would never make a loss in terms of depreciation and you will have absolutely bags of power....

I know what your saying, I always had a soft spot for the B5 RS 4 (just like most people, Layercake sealed the deal for me!) but theres something about the B7, the lines etc which I love!

I think id have the B5 Avant, and a B7 saloon! that would make me a very happy (poor) but happy man! :D
the newer Audis just dont do it for me at the moment... I think its the wider rear lights.

Book MPG on the auto is 2 higher than the Manual (23 vs 21).... Odd, but seems true.

I see 22.5 mpg over last 5K miles. Clive couldnt get anything like the same economy I was seeing in his B6 manual S4....

Speaking from experience though, he was much happier with the S4 overall than the overly expensive, not much faster, theft-risk RS4 iirc.

Singh 22nd January 2012 11:46 AM

The car in Layer Cake was a C5 RS6, the same model I've got Neil. I have to admit though, the B7 does look beefy and fat. I will have a B5 RS4 at some point too.

That's the reason Ranj bought the S4 over and RS4/6, the theft risk, but they still came for the B6 anyway, luckily they didn't get it. Intresting the auto is more fuel efficient, I'd still have a manual though.

Neil - If you can afford it, go buy a B7 RS4 whilst fuel is still under £2 a liter. Don't worry too much about the carbon issues, they are still quick and sounds the mutts.

E.L.M.O 29th January 2012 02:48 PM

huh, I always thought Laycake was an RS4! >_<

yeah I doubt the misses will allow it, at this stage im going to have to work very hard to just get a 3.0 TDI A4 Avant :-(

E.L.M.O 23rd February 2012 11:10 AM

Hi all,

So... ive got a little bit of news.

Not about the car (all though the insurance pay out is due any day now) But about my personal life.

Before the A8 was stolen, I was toying with the idea of an upgrade to a D3 4.2 TDI due to the pending wedding (In two months time) and feeling I should go a little more "sensible" However, things between my partner and I have been a little strained recently and about two weeks ago, we decideded to officially postpone the wedding till a later date. (this all started because she was getting pre wedding jitters, all which I understand are perfectly normal but they got worse and I feel started to go from just jitters to serious doubt, and so we started to argue. we did get things back on track after I moved into the spare room for a few weeks and we gave each other some space, (making sure one of us was out in the evenings and actually arranging to spend time with each other meaning that for a change we looked forward to seeing each other.)

This did work, but we both agree things arent where they need to be for us to proceed to get married, and do have decided to postpone the wedding. Officially were taking about doing it in a year, but I think it will be at least two years if I ever decide I will go through this again.

So, this has left me with the money from the 8's insurance pay out, and my savings for the wedding fund.

Initally I was going to get the TDI 8 to be a little more sensible, as a sign to my Fiancee that I was ready to marry. But now I am thinking F that and you can stick your sensible. Its time to get more crazy than the V8

So, I love classic's and retro.
I would like something that could have investment potential
I want something more insaine than the 4.2 petrol 8
Something that would p the misses off and cost a bit to run would be of benefit!

I find myself day dreaming about Audi RS2 Avants rather a lot at the moment...... +++

Treat your self! :)

Whats your budget?

E.L.M.O 23rd February 2012 12:19 PM

If I wanted to blow a lot of it... £15k.
Would rather go for something at the lower end of the scale around £9k and add bits and bobs over the years and make my own mark on it, for me, custom is the way to go! (mechanically sound is important to me however)

MSR1991 23rd February 2012 12:22 PM

Audi S4 B5 2.7 V6 BiTurbo! With a few touches they will eat V8's alive!

E.L.M.O 23rd February 2012 12:38 PM

:tuttut:
I think my hearts set on an RS2 Avant TBH........¬

Adrian E 23rd February 2012 12:46 PM

There's only 2 listed on Pistonheads, and 1 of those is sold! The other has done 160k :o

They are rather lovely, but best bought from anal retentive types who've maintained regardless of cost.

Mate had one 10+ years ago when they were still going down in price and it never cost less than £1k to service with everything dropping off it a 100k miles.

It was blue and RHD though and looked great!

There's one on Auto Trader being sold by Nick Johnson at £14k which sounds like it's had proper care and attention:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01122389055479

E.L.M.O 23rd February 2012 12:52 PM

I wouldnt buy one off pistonheads or ebay, as mentioned by someone else and already decided by me I would ONLY buy one of a well respected forum member who was looking for a change from their pride and joy. I want one, but there is no rush and not in te position this very second.

To give you an example, this is exactly the sort of thing i would have been after. They only thing I would have dont would have been possibly a vinyl wrap (as it doesnt damage the paint and I can go as cutom as i like, then back to standard if and when i wanted to) and maybe some interior changes (nothing drastic) I also wonder how one of these would look on 20" final edition wheels....? (with it slammed as low as I could get it without compromising the handling, a harsh ride is something I CAN live with though)
http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51819

Most will have done 100k plus by now. If its been well looked after, im not fazed by mileage providing the engine has been well serviced and well looked after. (trim can always be reconditioned)

47p2 23rd February 2012 12:56 PM

Jeez, I go away for a few days and all hell is let loose. Sadly I doubt the car will be found in one piece and the insurance company will try and screw you, just don't accept the first offer, or the second
