Thanks for the kind words.
Yes I am rather proud if her, I've owned her since 2003 when I imported her back from Sydney.

Gets my vote - a very tasty motor:cool:+++

Night Train 31st January 2012 10:06 PM

Anyone like to hazard a guess at what this picture is all about.

As Hp said.. super-shiny door :)

Was the pic taken in Eaglesham by any chance?

47p2 1st February 2012 08:51 AM

Yes and yes +++

The picture was taken in Eaglesham on Mid Road looking towards Montgomery Street and the image above is a reflection of my garage through the Rover door.

Night Train 2nd February 2012 03:34 PM

I wish my P5B looked a tenth as good as that :)

47p2 2nd February 2012 04:24 PM

A couple of pics of the P5B would be good, is it a coupe?

mannyo 3rd February 2012 05:19 PM

I'm liking the old Rover a lot.

47p2 3rd February 2012 06:33 PM

I'm a bit of a Rover fan having owned a number of models over the years.

Now my Rover collection consists of the 16 as above and a Range Rover, yes I know it isn't really a Rover any more but it is a great place to be when traversing the streets.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...2/P1040074.jpg

briang9 3rd February 2012 06:36 PM

you really do a stunning job with the paintwork, very impressive, do you do lessons+++

47p2 4th February 2012 08:57 AM

Thanks briand9, sadly I don't give lessons but could possibly do a short intro into the do's and don'ts of rectifying paintwork at a meet sometime. I am by no means an expert in this field, merely a keen amateur with many many years of experience.

It shocks people when you show them some of the things that can be done to paintwork until they see the end results.

Take for instance my old Range Rover which had been repainted before I bought it. The paintwork was fine for most, but me being such a pain in the ass decided to take a piece of wet & dry paper to it and see how I got on.

Every panel was sanded back with 2000 grade W&D until all the shine was off the clearcoat.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/P1000713.jpg

47p2, yes it is a coupe, in my ownership for 30 yrs now, nicely modified under the bonnet, but looking quite sad & having to leave my stable soon :(

briang9 4th February 2012 10:11 AM

that was exactly what I was thinking when I asked the question, would be great if you would be willing to do a session at one of the meets this year, I for one would love to learn more

cheers

47p2 4th February 2012 10:55 AM

It is a possibility briang9, might even have a mini meet at my place and use the rotary polisher.

Here is another one that I was compelled to wet & dry
This is my S-Class which I have owned for 7 or 8 years now. About 4 years ago I had to have the usual MB rot sorted out and as it was a warranty job MB sent the car to Evans Halshaw in Glasgow to do the work. (incidentally Evans Halshaw is part of M-B Glasgow which is part of the Pendragon Group) (yes you also smell that rat)

Well the car went into EH for the work and when it came out I almost cried at the mess they had made of it. The only saving grace was the paint was thick enough to seriously cut back and polish up to a reasonable standard

This is typical of the standard of work Evans Halshaw paint shops produce
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1030611.jpg

Cutting back with the W&D taking it easy as you don't want to go through the clearcoat
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1030612.jpg

Then the process of bringing the paint back to life starts
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1030618.jpg

Once you reach a point in which you are happy and the end results shine through
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1030646.jpg

This was the bonnet before the repaint, not showing in this image are hundreds of stone chips, but the shine had a lot of depth and gloss to it
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...p2/TreeRef.jpg

and the mess EH made...dull no shine and almost dead looking
http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P1030655.jpg

This was a tense moment for me, I had never cut back this far before
WHen I told my mate wat I had done he told me to go and see a psychiatrist and have my head examined

Taking my time with the cutting paste until the shine started to return

Not sure it could be called a master class :tuttut: but I'm sure I could give a few pointers in the right direction +++

I did enjoy the LSE but when I look back it was like driving a 1960s Land Rover and not a luxury vehicle. Ardennes Green was the colour

Shame you are having to part with it, what mods does it have?

Night Train 5th February 2012 07:46 PM

47p2
In partial answer to your question -

Mainly engine mods
4BBL Holley (manual choke) on Offenhauser 360 inlet manifold & heat insulator. matched manifolds
Full balance, lightened & nitride 10/10 R/G on crank
SD1 conrods (instead of the rubber P5B ones)
10.5:1 +020 pistons (forged)
Spike Anderson (of Samuri fame, for those that remember him - what a bloke!) Cylinder head rework in exhaust finish. - matched chambers adjusted to run on 4 star (premium unleaded really, being ali heads must have steel inserts).
Steel duplex vernier timing gears
Crane H200 Cam
Crane anti-pump lifters (will rev to 7k)
Lumenition
Stainless flexi fan (sounds great)
Baffled sump

biggest problem is that it destroys gearboxes (BW35 Jag 4.2 internals) & diffs (same as Range Rover (3.54:1) if showing up the local boy racers a bit too often..........

Funnily enough, as I was reading down the list I was thinking about the gearbox. Sounds like an awesome set-up +++

What I meant by my comment was that it was a 1994 Range Rover which was more like a 1960 Land Rover when driving it. They really did have a lot of similarities. Best thing that happened was for BMW/Ford/Jaguar to take them over.

Weekend drifting in your Landy would be fine by me ++++++
