Annual meet - Location - Move Quickly

I went up to the Lake district on Tuesday and spent 2 days investigating hotels and the area.

WE NOW HAVE A VENUE AND 2 SETS OF ACCOMODATION.

As it is Jubilee weekend it has proven quite hard to find a venue big enough that is reasonably priced. We either went to a chain just of the M6, and large very posh and expensive hotel in the northern lake or find a couple of small hotel/Inns/B&Bs close together that can take the expected numbers.

I have found a location on the side of Ullswater at a place called Watermillock.

There is an Inn called the Brackenrigg Inn, and a B&B just down the road called Knotts Mill Country Lodge. Between them, as of yesterday, they had 18 rooms.

While they are a mile apart, the owner of Knotts Mill has a mini bus and will run people up to the Brackenrigg for the evenings events. He also has a bit of space and would be happy to let people camp there for a small fee if some of his rooms have been booked by the group and the campers took breakfast in his dining room.

There are 2 caravan parks locally. Link here for maps and here for Caravan park website

The Brackenrigg have space for all of us to dine together and socialise in the evening and I have heard good things about the place.

The Brackenrigg requires a 30% deposit.

YOU NEED TO MOVE QUICKLY TO SECURE YOUR ROOMS
.

It is bank holiday weekend and they are expecting to be full. There was no discount offered, but the room rates are reasonable and the location is ideal. It is after all a Bank Holiday weekend and both places assusred me they would be full!

Neil and I also have a big suprise up our sleeves for the Saturdays event so get your rooms booked quickly so you dont miss out.

Can I suggest you try the Brackenrigg first and if all the rooms are taken try Knotts Mill.

When you have booked your room please add your names below so we know where we are up to.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask

Mike, for us muppets not following so closely, can you spell out the dates / times for this meet ? +++

IT 16th February 2012 12:11 PM

P.S.

Nice to have you back (almost) ;)

Architex_mA8tey 16th February 2012 12:23 PM

The main thing was to get a base and some suitable parking / accommodation sorted so the fine detail is still being hammered out
Mike and Myself will go back up to do some more detailed planning in April but as he says we have a GREAT and different fun event planned for Saturday for all to join in with!
The dates are as follows -

Friday 1st June
Some folks may choose to arrive late pm at the hotel/s and spend the evening catching up as some are travelling further

SATURDAY 2nd JUNE
Main Meet day - will probably be meet mid to late morning (timings not finalised yet) last year we had a 2 stage treasure hunt before and after a lunchtime pub grub then an evening barbeque. We are still putting things together so just assume the main meet will be all day from mid morning and through until early mid evening. Some will choose to just attend for the one day today and others will choose to come up for the full fat 2 day weekend so most will stay in one of the hotels tonight

SUNDAY 3rd JUNE
Probably be a gentle start to the day and then either a spirited drive around the lakes or we will also look at nearby events and activities (possibly even a trip in the 8's to Blackpool!) Finish later pm and all drive homewards

MONDAY 4th June and TUESDAY 5th June are Jubilee bank holidays so everyone still gets 2 more days off work!!

IT 16th February 2012 12:58 PM

I've booked in Sat, Sun and Mon night.....

I'll be there early Sat, then plan is for family to join me on Sunday and we'll make a mini lakes holiday out of the Queen. Thanks Maaam +++

I can offer a prize for the treasure hunt. 4 x 18" alloys, refurbished but not used since. Nothing much to look at I'm afraid, but crucially they will fit over the Brembo 345mm brake set-up on the D2 S8. They look like this.

Top Man. Thanks.

The_Laird 29th February 2012 05:17 AM

Guys,

How are we going to manage the 'spirited drive through the Lakes' when it seems that so many of us will have the speed limiter fitted (also known as SWMBO) to our cars?

notorious 29th February 2012 05:36 AM

I thought he literally meant "through the lakes". Think about swimsuits...

The_Laird 29th February 2012 08:20 AM

Ahh, bless the literal translation of those whose first language is not English! :)

The locals (and I'm married into a local family) call The Lake District 'The Lakes' (as, IIRC, a TV series some time ago which featured the church where my youngest was christened - youngest child, that is, not youngest lake)

BTW - how's the electronics work in the centre display for RNS-E coming on?

Conan_the_Librarian 29th February 2012 08:57 AM

Why do they call it 'The Lakes'; there is only one lake there!

HPsauce 29th February 2012 10:39 AM

Pedant. :tuttut:
(Bassenthwaite I presume?)

There are many lakes. Have I missed something here?

HPsauce 29th February 2012 12:51 PM

Yes, see my preceding post then check the names of a few "lakes". ;)

>> BTW - how's the electronics work in the centre display for RNS-E coming on?

Jim, the research is still ongoing. We learned that RNS-D and RNS-E display graphics on cluster screen using different graphics languages. Of course, A8 cluster 'understands' only RNS-D language, so the decoder is being build that sits in between RNS-E and A8 cluster. No firm dates of beta version of decoder yet.
