Final Edition D2 S8, are they really worth this much?

Just out of interest... I know it's only done 35K but my interior looks better than that...

Only if someone is daft enough to pay it

Adrian E 3rd May 2012 12:17 PM

It's had 2 services in 10 years :o bet the cambelt hasn't been changed either...

Don't think that's a final edition in any case with that colour combo and heated rear seats

I'd reckon properly serviced and in 100% condition it might fetch £7.5k. It's not had the upgrades mine has had done and the mileage isn't much lower than when I bought mine, but mine had had £7k of recommissioning expenditure!

...and someone might. It's has been very nicely prepared, and on eBay that can make a bit of a difference, though I doubt £4-5k of a difference.
There are also some other very nice cars on this site (e.g BMW 3.0 csl - very, very nice, but very pricey again)

Singh 3rd May 2012 01:10 PM

All their cars are expensive and they sell, they are concours condition cars bought by collectors and shipped all over the world. Not your average run of the mill car dealer, or price. I was quite excited to see they had a D2 S8 in, I follow their stock all the time.

sharpster74 3rd May 2012 01:46 PM

I've done a few convertible soft top replacements for them (I do this for a living). Their stock is very mouth watering although you have to pay the price obviously. Location could be a bit better as they are based on a farm.

Adrian E 3rd May 2012 01:57 PM

They've had this for sale for nearly 2 years and the price has dropped from about £16k iirc - I used to frequent Alpina forums when I was looking for a B10 3.3 before I bought the S8.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISA...m=120853654138

Guess it depends if they're happy to hang on to stock!

I'd still be put off by the lack of regular servicing - even a car that's had irregular use should really be serviced every 2 years, even on longlife.

From the description and mileage it wouldn't surprise me if it was due tyre, front brakes, cambelt before delivery - hopefully any work required would be covered at that price, but I suspect this is one that'll be stuck in stock for a good long while.

Nollywood 3rd May 2012 09:23 PM

12 grand for any D2 is absurd, That's encroaching on D3 S8 money, and I know which I would spend such a sum on.

Oh well, there's a sucker born every second...

The_Laird 4th May 2012 05:26 AM

Unless (he said hopefully) the D2 is at last becoming recognised as a classic car and so prices will begin to climb back from the 'give-away' level. Everyone I know is amazed at how cheap the car is to buy at it's current price and we often see those who aren't so close to the market asking too much. Fingers crossed! :)

IT 4th May 2012 07:40 AM

Defo not final edition.

But, very tidy and quite rare at that mileage.

Doubt its rare enough to command 12K, but they're in the business of selling collectables - So why not punt it out high and see what happens?

I suspect it will end up going for four figures, but on a good day could start with an 8 or 9 with such low mileage.

roberto 8th May 2012 11:14 AM

it looks bootifull and ive loved the D2 for years (had 2 of them)
isnt there photography a bit wierd like in a magazine or something

anyway £10-12k will buy a nice D3 tdi nowadays
so it would be a no from me simon?

SyncroS8 9th May 2012 08:23 AM

I can't believe how many S8's are on ebay atm going for circa 2.5K!

Ony a matter of time before the real wheat is seperated from the chaff. Good examples are out there, but in the minority.

Looking again at that car, Ian is right, it isn't a final edition as despite them saying it has morning dew upholstery, it clearly isn't. I thought the interior shots were dark and it could have been. No final edition had alcantara on the door cards.

Looks a ringer for the one I just sold, although my interior was in much better shape than that and had two cambelt changes!

IT 9th May 2012 02:47 PM

No GSM phone aerial on rear wing is a big giveaway that its not a final edition.

Interior leather colour is wrong for FE, and I believe through major squinting that it also has alcantara roof - Again not an FE piece of kit.

Nice car, but with a few scratches and poor service history given its age, its not really quite the concourse example you'd expect at that money.

The_Laird 9th May 2012 02:50 PM

You'd think a 'specialist' classic car company could get a few details right, wouldn't you? So far, it's not a FE, it's not morning dew leather (I thought it was dark, too) and the wheels have been powder coated. but they still want £11K?
I thought I'd paid top dollar for James' S8: OK it's got higher mileage, but it is a real FE and in lovely nick, and I paid nothing like that!

The terminology for 'final editions' is a bit unclear in my experience. IIRC, everytime the press releases announcing the 'final edition' specs are posted here, they're referred to (by Audi I assume) as 'special editions'. I've not seen 'run out model' used before, but I'm sure someone here will clarify shortly....

Looks like it could be sold according to a post on pistonheads.

Really???

Anyway i got a 96 final edition, very low millage (190+k) with every conceivable extra apart from the kit not fitted.
This car is immaculate in every way like it’s just come out the factory, there are stone chips to the front bumper and bonnet, some bubbling of the paint in places (so you know it’s aluminium) front bumper cracked, rear bumper scratched, passenger door dinted.
Interior is like it’s never been sat in, apart from dirty carpets, scratched wood, and a small cig burn to the driver’s seat.
Will hit the rev limiter in every gear apart from 4th, never been thrashed
ACC
Single din stereo with tape player (so you can plug you ipod in with a tape adapter (included in sale))
Sorar sun roof (like thebluewhale wants)
One lady owner from new and 12 others
Full main dealer history for a bit and then who knows who’s touched it.
All old tax discs
Water in the screen wash
Ford Transit aero wiper on the driver’s side

£7995 ono £7895 to forum members.

First to see will laugh their c0ck off

Sold! to Roberto, i really hope you enjoy it mate she's been a true Trojan and i'm going to miss her. I actually cried last night for 3 hours solid and burnt all my clothes in the bin. I ended up in foetal position in the shower, watching that car drive off I actually felt raped.

Adrian E 17th May 2012 10:13 AM

Hope the new owner does join - I'm sure the car is great at the right price and bought with eyes open to work required :)

can someone who's registered on the PH forum invite him to the June meet?

sundayrider 17th May 2012 04:51 PM

He's been pointed in this direction, he was asking about suspension upgrades.

Hmmm...it depends. I might be wrong, but I smell a blatant plug here. Not sure if you do as well.

Who is Stefan?

Singh 17th May 2012 11:51 PM

Knew it would sell, and I thought it would be to one of 4star's existing clientele too, they don't give a monkeys if you can buy a minter of a D3 for the same money. Mostly car collectors, I hope 4Star start selling more D2 models, they should be collectors items not £500 ragged and poorly serviced eBay specials. It would be great to see D2s fetching more money then the D3, ala Porsche 993 vs 996.

It's worth noting, a full VAG service history doesn't always guarantee a good buy. In the same way, a car looked after by an enthusiast, with a folder full of invoices can be a better proposition.

Most of my cars have been bought off eBay. The key word here is Due Diligence. I'm from an engineering background, and know exactly what to look for in a used car. If you know what to look at, and what to ignore, you'll always get a good car.

And as for the Aqua Blue S8 in question here, it may well have sold, but no one knows what it went for. Obviously not £11,995. Still, the post by the "buyer" makes for good reading, and won't do 4 Star any harm. ;)

Nollywood 27th May 2012 01:38 PM

...And once more, this car is offered for sale. Same price, same format, same eBay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-S8-Qu...item1c269c7877

Now can anyone now convince me this whole "sold" to "Stefan" is valid? Of course, it'll probably be the same "re-advertised due to time waster."

That car was never sold, and the posting on another forum by "Stefan" is just so much BS.

ainarssems 27th May 2012 02:09 PM

If you bother to read the ad it says: "SOLD: Audis Flagship S8 run out model with low miles and in great condition. SIMILAR REQUIRED"

stefan1 7th June 2012 11:11 PM

Hi to all

I am the lucky new owner of the 4 Star car; I took delivery last week after the car had been fully serviced (including cambelt change).

I've only had a chance to drive the car briefly so far; very pleased with it - a lovely combination of long-legged cruising ability with a surprising turn of speed and a great engine.

Some have asked why not a D3 - the answer is simple, I like the elegant design of the D2 and prefer the V8 engine (although I know how good the V10 is as well).

I am now fitting some uprated suspension (KW Variant 2) and it already has a mellifluous sounding Miltek fitted. It will also be treated to a full detail and I'll post some pics when done.

Cheers

Ricky22buk 8th June 2012 04:42 AM

Health to drive Stefan !!!!! Its a stunner !

Looking forward to those pictures.........

Architex_mA8tey 8th June 2012 06:33 AM

Welcome to the forum Stefan +++

There is a huge resource of information here for your '8 all split up into sections and in most cases with a "common problems and upgrades" sticky at the top of each section.

There is also a meetings schedule/sticky for upcoming meetings and you'd be very welcome to come along to any that you can make

The_Laird 8th June 2012 08:27 AM

Welcome from me too, Stefan. Can't wait to see the pics
