MMI screen is stuck out and not working its just black
well the screen came out today and decided to stay out and its just a black screen no picture no radio or cd or nothing cant use sat nav cant change the air ride nothing ahhh its one thing after another i have looked at all the fuses in case it was a fuse but nothing
and when i get in the car when its been locked you can hear the speakers making a noise for a few seconds then it just stops and its dead just no life in it is there any thing i can do ? i dont have any vag com that works with my car although i may have in the next few days thanks to A8 doc god the amount of times i need vag com and just have not got it its silly now any help with this would be great :-( Ps where are all the brains and electrics for the MMi as i did drive through some fairly deep water the other day and i have had no problem with the MMi in the past until now im sure you have all seen the flooding in my area at the moment |
Aren't these (d3s) seriously susceptible to funny business as soon as the main battery starts to go a bit sick? Just a thought but I'm only guessing!
Is it worth the old windows trick of reboot by disconnecting the battery for a bit? |
My MMI went blank once, tried everything and still the same until I did a battery disconnect for 20 minutes and then reconnect
|
worth a try by all means
i will do so now and see what happens +++ it makes a clicking noise in the boot but still wont work i get the MMI load up screen and then it just goes black will try battery and report back in 20 mins or so ........... |
I know it's a previous generation, but my SatNav has on occasion just "locked up" and turning it on and off achieves nothing.
Pulling the relevant fuse (in my case it's in the boot) for a few minutes reset it OK. It definitely needed longer than a quick in and out. |
There's a 'three button salute' for the MMI too.
Press the 'Tel', main knob and top right meta-key together. My PF D3 had all manner of issues with the MMI and electrics as I was getting water in. |
well i have tryed the battery disconnected for 45 mins and nothing its did not work
i have tryed re-booting it with Tel middle knob and top right button but that dose not work ether all i get is the audi MMI screen load up for a few seconds and then its just goes black again ! any more thoughts guys ? |
Fuses all OK?
If one item in the loop dies, the whole thing goes down :( Check for loose connections in the media rack in the boot. |
have checked all fuses they all look ok ?
have also wiggled the connections in the boot on the tv tuner ect and still nothing ? its driving me nuts it came on again as if it was going to load up and the radio came on and it said updating radio menus and then it just died again and back to square one and its still dead as a door nail ? what the hels that all about its winding me up now because the car is simply useless with out the MMI unit working there in no control over anything ! |
who is the closest person to me with vag com i wander so i can do a loop test or what ever its called to see if there is a controller or anything in the loop that has failed but if so why did it come back on for a brief few moments ?
bloody thing is doing my head in now its too bleak in the car with out the MMI up and running |
after trauling the net it could end up being the Bose amplifier thats the fault any one have a diagram of the set up with the bose ect
? |
Guy take a look at the Front Information Display Control Head (J523) - it's the master control unit for the Infotainment System. I've emailed a link to a PDF to your email +++
|
thanks Neil will take a look +++
|
That PDF Neil is fantastic its one of the best and most informative PDF's that i have ever had for the D3 thank you very much
|
Also what is this mistery box in the boot ?
it has 3 expantion bays on it like you can add some sort of cards or chips or something was just wandering what it is because there was some water inside it ? http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...9062012933.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...9062012934.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/a...9062012935.jpg you pull out the black plastic protectors and there is a connection on the bottom too add things ? |
sorry to be a pain in the ass but i think i just answered my own question your PDF has it on there and its Primaraly the radio tuner but the bay's on there are for the speech control module meaning thats why my voice control was not working because the module is missing from the boot for some reason its just gone and it has the option for the voice control so i may get hold of A8 parts and see what i can get +++
|
I think that part is lot more than just a radio tuner, the one you have is listed as discontinued but its replacement has this as its description.
AUDI Factory(OEM) Becker K-Box Navigation Control Module http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-A6-A8-S...-/170847906684 |
Oh yea good find there mannyo ! dam and at that price i only want the card to slot into mine,
i wander why its missing ? |
Could have fried in the past as I think SDS was standard on D3. But it's one of the main boxes for the MMI. Interesting to see how water got into it!
Give it a couple of hours on the radiator and see how it goes. |
just be careful Guy if you do end up getting one from the US - not sure they are exactly the same due to frequency differences etc +++
Glad the PDF was useful! This link to an article might be useful for the voice control bit - http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/article...cecontrol.html |
A8parts do have a couple in.. though IIRC this is a part that can cause CP to trip, but at least you'd know everything works until you got to a dealer to remove it.
|
If you suspect a component, like the tuner, if you take apart the fibre connections and repatch it to bypass that device, the rest of the system should boot up. It's not that the car needs the tuner, but if that has failed, it breaks the fibre optic data loop....
Audi do have an official optical bypass connector which allows you to remove a device and plug the loop to keep it working, not sure if it would be available to non-trade though.. |
well the system works again now as normal no problems no idea what was up with it but there was water in the radio reciver, i did a loop on the fiber optic using my home cinema fiberoptic for the dolby 7.1 and it booted up
re-instated the box in the boot and its all working again very strange but will have to look into why my voice control is not there maybe i can buy the expantion only and slot it into my tuner ? |
Same sort of process you use with computers and one I was about to suggest:
Disconnect/bypass everything you can and try a "minimal boot", then add things back in one by one until it fails. Often, as you've discovered, it all works again. And if you're really lucky for a long while. |
Could be some of the water had splashed up and was causing a short. Glad to hear you're back in business though.
SDS modules are available seperately, so you should be able to get hold of one. |
yes i just hope it dose not break again i already have tax this month for the car and tyres next month and i dont want to fork out for new modules if they fail, its not until you have a D3 you realize just how reliant the car is on its electrical system its epic and if one component dies its game over they are not a very diy oriented car like the D2 was +++
