Has anyone got a roof rack I could borrow in August?

Being a bit cheeky here:p

Off surfing in August and will be using the A8 to get there (North Wales).
Last year when we went we took the board, but used fabric roof rack. Basically left the roof looking worst for wear:(

So - was wondering if any kind souls could lend me one for the 2 weeks I'm away. If not, then I will use the fabric on again but see if I can do any mods with them to reduce the roof damage.

Cheers:D

Near Leeds - a bit of a drive from Gatwick though :(

Yeah, not too convenient lol - if you were nearer you could've borrowed mine but hopefully someone will chip in nearer to home +++

I bought one last year from Halfords, the weekend before the gearbox failed - it had been fitted and tested, but never used due to aforementioned gearbox.

I took it back to Halfords and got a refund, think it was about £100 or thereabouts.

Will try to find the photos

Reminds me off teenage years in Denmark. First I bought a cheap steering wheel/pedals for PS 2, which were rubbish, then bought a proper ones which were brilliant but expensive but came with 14 days no questions asked return. Since then me and my buddies just bought them, used for 2 weeks and returned them

Back on topic......

Yes, I have a 2 bar roof rack that you can borrow. I'm going to be at Manchester Airport next Friday afternoon/evening so, if that's not too far, I could bring it down. I'm sure we could work out the return at some point.

Let me know

Thank you very much - I could meet you at a service station either on your way there or back if OK with you +++

Cheers:D

We're staying at a hotel at the airport and flying out the following morning. I'll find out the name of the hotel so you can just come and pick it up anytime after we arrive. That might be better than trying to meet at a service station as I'm not sure what our timings are likely to be.

PM me a phone number and I'll call you when we set off (it's about 3-4 hours from here) and when we arrive

Cheers and sounds like a cunning plan +++

The hire of the roof rack plus delivery and collection should just about cover your holiday Jim

I had a Thule roof rack for my Focus and the feet used are the same so I just needed the fitting kit and the bars.
Got the fitting kit of fleabay for £8.00 and bought new bars from Halfrauds for £80 so cost me less than £90 :D

A few pics of it installed:

Adrian E 27th July 2012 03:56 PM

Same as what I've got, which I bought off an ex-8 owner on here after his car sold :) not used mine yet, or even fitted them lol

PsYcHe 27th July 2012 04:43 PM

Looks good... Aero bars as well :)

Adrian E 27th July 2012 07:15 PM

Only 1 better option than aero bars and that's whisper bars - although not checked if they do an a8 option?

gninnam 27th July 2012 07:26 PM

Cheers all - I like it and they are actually the Wing bars and very quite they are too when no load is on and you have your foot down;)

There is a whisper bar option for the A8 - I already had a third of the Thule kit so that's the way I went.

Adrian E 28th July 2012 06:49 AM

Now I've looked at this on a decent screen rather than iphone, those bars are much thinner profile than original Thule aero bars  have they changed the design recently?

You might need to read more carefully, they are not aero bars:

I read psyche's post and thought that's what they are - so having looked on halfords site, yes these 'wing' bars are replacements for thule 'aero' bars and akin to the 'whispbars'

I blame it on a lack of sleep this week courtesy of our 2 yr old.....

:-(
