I will post as soon as mods have told me that the money has been received :p

It's the same on C5 isn't it? I have to double check. The one in our A6 is sometimes changing settings on it's own I think it's to due to battery getting old and dropping voltage when starting but might be faulty unit.

Amanda 29th July 2012 08:33 PM

It's not the same as my rs6 c5 but could be the same for an a6 ..... I don't really know and cannot confirm sorry :(
It is an a 8 part number ;) Amar confirmed it!

Singh 29th July 2012 08:39 PM

Yeah, I'm sure 4DO is the D2 one, looks the same as my RS6 one too.

Amanda 29th July 2012 08:43 PM

It isn't the same as the rs6 one ;) have a look!

This is the one that has had the facia colour matched to an RNS-E unit....

It will look a little odd (matt) going into a normal 'D2' but for anyone with an RNS-E (or thinking of) its a nice colour match +++

Architex_mA8tey 29th July 2012 09:31 PM

. . . in that case Id be interested as I intend to put RNS-e in mine and might have lined up a unit for the nearish future :D

Hi Ian,

I didn't know Audi manufactured A8 D2 climate controls with facia colour matching RNS-E.

I have here brand new 4D0 820 043Q climate control with manufature date 23.06.04 on sticker and it is still comes with old "dark black" facia colour. Part number on my unit is exactly the same: 4D0 820 043Q

In ETKA there's only one option of 4D0 820 043Q climate control, which is "4D0 820 043Q E54" with "satinswartz" facia... How do they separate different colours then?

Ans yes, on Amanda's picture facia colour looks like matching with RNS-E... I'm confused...

P.S. Attached is how sticker on my climate control looks like. The only exception is the date, which is 23.06.04 on my example.

How was this done, Ian? I'm in the US or I'd make the donation for it.

IT 30th July 2012 07:42 AM

The unit came in on a car that I bought. I cant claim to have made the magic happen.

The facia is colour coded 'A6 matt style' where the buttons are still D2 style gloss.

Looks a good match when installed.

No idea how they did it to be honest.

notorious 30th July 2012 08:40 AM

Thanks Ian,

Did it match color of upper unit on that car?

What was the upper unit? I understand it wasn't rns-e. I understand it was some other 'standard D2' unit with 'rns-e like' facia colour.

See here for it inplace:

Thanks Ian.

So we won't know what unit it came with originally, which is a shame.

Unless we check PR codes with VIN of course...

IT 30th July 2012 10:23 AM

Eh?

It would have come with an RNS-D originally, like all 2000+ D2's.

But somebody has altered the appearance of it, presumably when they retrofitted the RNS-E, bluetooth, TV and upgraded all the speakers in the car and fitted a solar roof with wires that go no where (yes, a cosmetic upgrade!!)

It is a D2 unit, with D2 part numbers, so it would have looked exactly like yours does now originally..... +++

1x Kiwi Magic Shoe Polish on the D2 climate control, and it matches the RNS E, perfect.

That might match the colour, but this one seems to have the same texture too....

notorious 30th July 2012 01:29 PM

Thanks Ian.

It seems we'll never know the story of that climate control since your car was modified before you acquired it.

Perhaps Amanda knows story of her climate control? :)

Many thanks.

Architex_mA8tey 30th July 2012 05:27 PM

I think it's one and the same unit isn't it Ian?

Amanda 30th July 2012 07:37 PM
