I suspect not but........

Having finally having got rid of my poor old chug a bug (who's sole duty was hauling my mountain bike to the nearest hills so I could fall off it :ROFL: ) due to antiquity and tinworm I am now down to A8 only. This clearly causes me a minor issue because the pushiron won't fit in the boot! I have an old saloon boot mounted bike rack from my Alfa and whilst I suspect the answer is a big fat nuh...huh does anyone know if a boot mount fits without ruining the alloy boot lid? Or am I forced into roof rack ville (again not something I am too keen on, the roof skin won't like a roof rack squishing it!) and a bike carrier to get my iron hoss to the falling over destination? :Confused:

Tried taking both wheels off? :Confused:

No issues with a pair of roof bars - shouldn't do damage if you buy top quality bars as per another recent thread about borrowing some!

If starting from scratch I'd probably opt for fitting a tow bar and using a clamp on Thule bike rack so you don't impact fuel economy so much - plus no worries about car park barriers!

not a fan of tow bar idea, I only travel out for a ride every few weeks and major surgery seems a little severe for that! The rest of the time I pedal to work (when it's not rainy!) for my bike riding. As for wheels, yep tried that, the new bike is about 2 inches too long whichever direction I tried it in. Dagnabit!

What about a bag for the frame and put it across the back seat?

B@fink 30th July 2012 09:05 PM

I had thought about back seating it but the pedals are rather "spiky", the bike is absolutely blathered in goop at ride end and the fork stems are pointy. Not sure where a big enough bag could be obtained but it would have to be tough stuff to stop the leather catching a major booboo.

You can use a boot mounted carrier, but my last one failed and knackered the boot lid on my D2 :( Never felt they worked on saloons properly.

Got a towbar one and never looked back... much more secure. But you eed to weigh up whether it's worth a towbar on the car, or roof rails.

knackered because it slipped or knackered because it squished the metal because of the loading?

New bike.....+++ a tad smaller...:p

OK I'm out of here:)

Knackered because it failed at one of the hinge points, but I've had others that have slipped in the past on saloons too. Was a 3 adult bike carrier, and had 2 adult bikes and 1 kids bike on it at the time.

If you can find a tow bar kit for sale it's actually not that bad to fit to be honest. And even the non removable ones like mine only have 2 bolts to undo to remove the bar so not so bad if you don't want it on there and a snip of the price of the genuine removable jobbies.

B@fink 31st July 2012 08:11 PM

theres only going to be 1 bike on it and it's a featherweight sub 14kg so the loading would be quite low. I have run with the bag idea, I will try some bike "plane" luggage as my start option (keeps bike most secure!), boot mount as 2nd choice (already got one)followed by a roof bar investment. As for new bike....it is new and I really don't want to swap it until I've fallen off it a few times!
