D2 towbar
Surely someone needs one of these....:)
|
I thought CtL was interested Chris, try pm'ing him as hes working a lot right now +++
|
I have one now guys. Thanks. Just got to get round to fitting it! +++
|
I would take it Chris but you'd be better off trying to find someone else as i don't think they are worth anymore than 50 notes secondhand. I know they cost shed loads from Audi but i got a brand new after market one for under 100. So for this reason i have not offered as i don't wish to offend.
Unfortunatly Audi's silly pricing when stuff is new commands the price of secondhand parts which is a shame. Is a secondhand Audi one really worth 3 times more than a brand new one just because it's got rings on it. I don't know i'm from Devon and i squeek when i walk so difficult for me to understand :hammer: |
Is it full kit?
1. I.e. does electrical harness come with it? Electrical relays? 2. Installation manual? 3. Can I see pictures? 4. Do I need to change 'lower skirt' of rear bumper? 5. How about plastic cover below lower skirt of rear bumper? Should I cut hole in it? Does your kit include OEM plastic cover with proper hole? 6. How much do you want for your kit? Many thanks. |
Hi
Its not a kit, just the old one from my written off car. It has four of the six necessary mounting bolts - the other two come when you remove/replace the bumper. Plus two major bolts to hold the swan neck to the bar. It has no installation manual, and the length of socket cable is around 1M. No relays. On my PF it just connected to the existing loom at the rear of the car. It was fitted by my local garage in France - sound but not the best. They cut a small U-shape in the rear skirt for the swan neck to exit. It is however pretty much as I bought it from A8 Parts earlier this year, so I guess my bad if I overpaid. I'd be surprised to see another bar as solid and heavy and which fits as well as this one - but I have limited experience of this sort of thing. I paid £300 plus shipping and I'd like to get £225 plus shipping. Currently the tow bar is near Stroud [where the Barge was scrapped] so could meet or courier Cheers Quote:

Many thanks for clarification.
Since I have facelift without any pre-wiring my situation is more complicated and as I don't have immediate need to tow anything I need to postpone this upgrade. Good luck with sale. |

Sorry Chris i didn't mean you to think you'd over paid for this, it is a genuine one after all. It's my way of thinking is all.
But thinking about what i've just typed and your previous post if you’ve had to cut the bumper skirt it’s not a genuine one, as these are swan necked enough to miss the bumper. Also they don’t have bolts holding the bar to the bracket (cross member) and i think the electrics are sprun loaded so disappear when not in use. Here’s a photo of a genuine type http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1345647984 Here is a pic of the non genuine towbar couldn't find a proper pic of the full assembly http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1345649920 this is my 8 showing her bum when i fitted my GDW bar, you can just make out where the towbar bolts between the brackets on the crossmember http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1345649919 |
towbar
i guess that this one is not the one that swings under when not in use then

But for clarity - mine isn't sprung loaded either, and sticks out all the time. And I'm not even sure that its a genuine one, it looks like the line drawing in Dezzy's picture. It looked genuine enough for a couple of Spanish traffic policeman who currently have a thing about type approval for towbars/bike racks/lights/numberplates. It looks just like Dezzy's GDW tow bar pic above

I had a genuine, swan necked, factory-fitted tow bar on my 2.8 A8 and the rear skirt did have a notch cut in it. IIRC, the genuine ones are Westfalia (?) and, if you check on the web, this model needs a notch to be cut if you have it fitted post-factory.
To be honest, this type was a real PITA! The 'spring-loading' mechanism stuck all the time, so you couldn't lock it properly. I had a really scary experience when my '8 and Davids8 trailer parted company. As I turned right into the dump, the trailer didn't, and it continued down the road alone.:o I had to keep leaving it to soak in WD40 all the time to get it to lock properly. |
Now £199 including UK courier.
I'm off back to France in five days so it will be in the lock-up until next year, maturing nicely like fine wine. Free D2 handbook and wallet to the lucky purchaser:) |
I might have to take it to the tip then:(
|
|
Oh dear! When I bought, I paid £300 plus shipping. Now I guess, if anyone wants it, its free if you collect:(
|
Where is it located?
|
Hi
Its in a lock-up in Oxford. I'm in France but I expect I can get my son to come and open up by arrangement Chris |
Hi,
I read the posts stating that the towbar would not be available till next year (so now in 2014). I am interested in purchasing it, would you be willing to ship it to the United States? Thanks |
