That should sort you out for removal - seems like the door panel is fairly involved to get out, not surprisingly!

daviesbike 5th September 2012 12:24 PM

they wont open they are xps docs have you got them in a PDF by any chance ?

HPsauce 5th September 2012 12:31 PM

Use this: http://www.xpsviewer.com/xps-viewer.aspx

Adrian E 5th September 2012 12:56 PM

On this ancient laptop I don't have a full version of Adobe Acrobat to write pdf's so xps is the only option, sorry.

You can use the viewer linked above or a free download from Microsoft of something similar

daviesbike 5th September 2012 04:03 PM

its not having any of it it wont let me open it even with xps viewer strange .......

HPsauce 5th September 2012 04:33 PM

Very strange, they're fine here.
You did download and unzip to a local folder on your PC first.....

Is it the 4e one?
Do you still need help with it?
I can either post screenshots from elsa in this thread or upload them to photobucket or any other service.

Try this

I was looking for a xps viewer too, and then I found if:-

1) you have a gmail account
2) you open your email in the webbrowser
3) you open the attachment as "view" (instead of download)

you can see the file

In fact, in Google docs, you can then have the option to "print" (which downloads it as a pdf, doing the conversion to pdf for you)

daviesbike 6th September 2012 09:42 AM

yea i still need help with it, im use less at the moment haha

M-A8 6th September 2012 11:38 AM

Really sorry guys for taking so much space, but I'm using iPad for Internet and it doesn't allows you to attach the files as a attachments, I can only upload them directly so they can be seen in full size in the actual post.

This is all I found, removing the mirror including all the steps such as door trim etc.
Hope that really helps as I've got little time to look into it in more detail, will speak to you later

Hi Guy,

Don't suppose you have those before and after pics? I have S8 mirrors on order so will be doing this also soon. It would also be good to know how long it took you, was it a full door card off job, if you broke any clips in the process that I should get ahead of time and any other tips you may have.

Or just share a full 'how to' to make it a really easy job for me :)

Cheers,

Oli

So, I had a go at this today and I had my driver's door completely in pieces. I can't believe how well built and sturdy the D3 is...it does make this job quite a bit more difficult.

I got stuck unfortunately.... I got the interior trim, door card, B&O speaker and exterior mirror housing off but I could not for the life of me work out how to pull the mirror wire (#4 below)through the door to take it off....

Would anyone know?

Guy, did you take off the entire mirror assembly or just swap covers?

Thanks,

Oli

I might be wrong but I think he just took the covers off to spray them.
We have taken the covers off to spray them since and the rest of the mirrors remained in place Oli.

Its really tricky to get the plug up and out of the door skin - the only way to do it without risking damaging the plug is to loosen the upper door away from the door skin. This will give you some extra wiggle room to be able to pull it carefully up and out. Alternatively you can unplug all the wires from inside the mirror mechanism and remove the mechanism leaving the wires protruding from the door whilst you work on the mirror.

A word of warning - if you choose option 1 and separate the upper door form the skin it will take you a lot of time and patience to get it all re-aligned again and shutting perfectly. Its a fiddly job!

Oli18 14th October 2013 01:05 PM

Neil - cheers for that and sounds like an easier way to go about it.

David - thanks for the detail on on how to go about it. I can't tell you how much effort i put into just getting to the point of taking the door and mirror off before realising what you just said about getting the cable out. I will give disconnecting the wires from inside the mirror mechanism a go...option 1 sounds like a surefire way to make me pull my hair out! +++
