oscar goldman audi

found this car being sold privatly 2 weeks ago for 17.5k offered 14.5k for it
seller told me he got 16.5k for it.

it is an se that had the nasty 17" wheels on it , no doubt this guy has a shedload of replica rs6 wheels to shove on them along with 6k markup

only word i can think off is well "rip off"

Erm, not sure I'd agree tbh - if a dealer offers to buy a car for more money than a private punter will wave under his nose, because the dealer sniffs the potential for a mark up to his advantage when sold with dealer facilities, what's wrong with that?

If it hangs around the price will drop but it'll still probably turn a profit.

This of course assumes the seller did indeed get £16.5k for it, rather than less than you offered......

Puzzled a bit as to why your upset? Just because you didn't get the car you wanted?

tonupkid 20th November 2012 10:05 PM

Yep, I can't see how he's a thief. No one HAS to buy this car from them.
Keep looking and you'll find what you want, and just put this one down to experience.
BTW careful what you post, with all that's being cracking off about libel lately

Singh 20th November 2012 11:08 PM

Thief? It's business, plain and simple.

True but considering i have tried to buy a few cars from dealers and asked for a a lousey 2k off and laughed at like i have personally insulted them.

Like you say business is business why not accept my offer and move on to the next one ?, a 6k markup just makes me see red.

he has another one with b&o which went through bca couple of months ago 07 plate , up for 17k with 76k miles, 6k or more is the norm with this chap.

Singh 21st November 2012 12:20 AM

Good on him, if he can get it, why wouldn't he charge as much mark up as possible? Oscar only buys *the* best cars, he (and I) know there are people out there willing to pay a premuim for the best example. He's not ripping anyone off at all, he's been in the business long enough and has a business model that clearly works for him. Offering £14.5k for a car advertised at £17.5k is a pi5s take. I'm surprised he even bothered getting back to you with such an insulting offer.

only going by cap valuations , and that car is hardly the best.

a big stereo and sports seats no other options , swapping the genuine wheels to some replica`s and forgeting to put SE on the add  i wish i paid the 16.5k for it , if their are silly people out there willing to pay that for an obsolete model, after 3 years i would get my money back.

Are you surprised? After trying to "buy a few cars" I'd have thought you'd realise you going too low to be honest.

That 2009 A8 is worth way way way more than 14.5k, 16.5k would have been a steal IMHO, it's only just over 3 years old!

Spec wise, first off I doubt they are replica wheels, and even if he does have a shed load, he still had to buy them from somewhere! Other than that, it has the very desirable B&O, HARD DRIVE nav, AMI & DAB, 1 owner from new with FASH, light package, keyless entry with fingerprint recognition and I'm pretty sure the leather is the optional extra (a lot extra!) leather too.

It's taxed and MOT'd, prepared for sale and comes with a 2 year warranty! It's worth at least 20k all day long.

As for Oscar himself, I found him a bit 'off' over the telephone to be honest, but found him a pretty nice guy in person when I went to look at a D2 S8 a few weeks ago - I may have bought that car, but ultimately the cream interior had not been very well looked after and was very mucky so walked away to wait for a black interior car (maybe). It was smoking a bit from the back of the engine, but sounded sweet, suspect the smoking was nothing major, just a couple of gaskets or something similar.

i was looking for a sport its an SE so i took a punt on it , never mind the b&o is bling over function. still an SE at the end of the day.

sarg 21st November 2012 12:53 AM

it's a 3 year old SE with one owner, full history and a big enough spec. B&O bling? You've obviously never heard one!

CAP is a GUIDE and is notoriously low on A8 values, and besides, are you expecting to be able to buy at trade prices?

no fingerprint , all facelift have dab , no ami ,
extra is b&o and sports seats , i rang up audi for the spec ! the warranty was paid for by the private seller , aftermarket rubbish

nice pop out tweeters nothing special well not for 4k anyway heard it in an s8 before , the grilles look nicer though.

sarg 21st November 2012 01:01 AM

ok, you know best, let us know when you buy something +++

PS Just because it didn't leave factory with AMI doesn't mean it doesn't have it now. And if Oscar Goldman says it has fingerprint recognition in his ad, it probably does. The HDD nav and DAB may well have been standard by 2009, but it still puts it above earlier cars that don't have it

its a start button

"FINGER IGNITION START" read the add properly its just another convoluted way of deceiving just like failing to mention SE

when i come to sell my house i will ensure the agent puts "FINGER IGNITION LIGHT SWITCH IN EVERYROOM":D

is this a bargain too ?

Singh 21st November 2012 01:25 AM

LOL, CAP values? You're not buying a Mondeo. I sold my A8 at £4k over CAP. Go buy a D3 at auction, probably not the right car for you if you're so worried about a few k here and there. Have we got an ignore function?

it's 2 years older than the other car, non OEM wheels, less desirable LWB (unless you're a chauffeur), what do you think?

And when you put your house on the market, do make sure you get at least 3 valuations and then make sure you go with the lowest one

lol its a car , same as a mondeo. , dont mind paying once i own it , dont like lining dealers pockets thats all.

do you work for oscar or something ?

sarg 21st November 2012 01:45 AM

don't look at cars advertised with dealers then

Whether you like it or not, they are a 'for-profit' business, with staff and overheads to pay. I suspect you have no idea how much it costs to run even a small business, these guys pay £1000s in advertising costs alone and they also need to allow for repairs/warranty work.

Nobody here works for Oscar, but he is generally well regarded as only usually stocking the best 8s.

What is your budget and what does your CAP RETAIL pricing say you should get for your money?

sticks_a8 21st November 2012 01:54 AM

16k cash

i offer inbetween trade and retail, usually 2k above trade

what would you say this is worth then , considerig it is being sold by a sytner supermarket , 3 month warranty . 3mm tyres etc.
19k is audi dealer prices to me.

Another thing - this "rip-off thief", as you describe him, according to you, paid £2k more for that car than you were prepared to pay.

So, if he is a rip-off thief, what does that make you?

Just saying... :argue:

did he though ? only going by the private seller`s word for it.
i offer what it is worth to me , goldman bought it to make a profit on , he obviously knows what he can get for it. which is more than i estimated it at.
had it been a genuine sport i would have bought it there and then.

1. Cash means the dealer has less margin as they'll earn nothing from any finance arranged - cash making you somehow a more attractive buyer is a total myth and could not be further from the truth.

2. Don't expect any dealer worth their salt to sell to you at much below retail value, you're just wasting your time and theirs.

3. It looks like a 20k motor to me. If you think you can buy that car from an Audi dealer for that price, then go ahead and find one. I won't hold my breath waiting for that one! Here's the link to Audi AUC, see if you can find one

http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator.html

4. They may advertise with a 3 month warranty, but all cars bought retail are subject to a 6-month guarantee - OFT has stated that all faults emerging in first six months after purchase are presumed to have been present at time of sale. Burden of proof is with the dealer to prove fault not present at time of sale.

See page 28:

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/rep...08/oft1241.pdf

This is another reason dealers' margins have needed to increase in recent years, and why you're far less likely to get a big discount than in years past.

Now, the problem with this law is that you can take the dealer to court, get awarded judgement etc, but you can't actually force the dealer to cough up. However, the likes of Oscar Goldman and Sytner are not back street dealers and are far more likely to treat you fairly as any negative publicity would have a far greater affect on them.

Why would the seller lie about it, he/she has sold it, what's to gain by lying?

Agreed, he has a reputation for quality "at a price". Nothing secretive about that.

If you want a good car and haven't the time to shop around or wait (but do have the money), then you're his sort of customer and vice-versa. +++

But if you want a good car at a bargain price and are prepared to invest your own time & effort and wait until the right car shows up, he's not for you. :tuttut:

You really don't have a clue do you? It's why you're struggling to find an A8 and whinging about it on here.

Go buy a Mondeo then, if it's the same.

we can all disagree with each other but can we please do it politely
