Why Cat C and D aint that bad
Coz this is an example of a low mileage 'hpi clear' RS4 coming soon into the classified listings after someone picks this up and does some more DIY on it...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAMAGED-SA...E:B:SS:GB:1123 At least with Cat C and D you are going to get them cheaper !! |
Says unrecorded in the advert, although if it was rear ended presumably it had front damage too otherwise why take it off?
That's some serious bodyshop dust going on too - that'll be in every nook and cranny!! If it comes with history it's a lovely colour, good spec with nav, phone, buckets etc - depends how well its been repaired.... |

quote] Exactly... and How bad was the rear end to need the rear screen out. The interior is covered in dust, the leather seats have headlights on..... ! It might look ok when its done, but its got a lot of work ahead of it, and plenty of opurtunities to cut corners.... |
Ok until you try to sell it, have over 1000 hits but only one phone call despite being the cheapest facelift Boxster in the country by some margin...

That Audi looks like it needs a lot of work. No doubt someone dedicated with their eye on a big wad of cash could get it up to scratch but there is a lot of room to cut corners there and buffer the profit you could make on it. Hopefully if it is rescued it will go to someone with the integrity to 'do it right'! |
I see where Ian is coming from on this - its a question over whether an unrecorded car that has has significant repair is any 'better' as an ownership punt than a well repaired recorded car. I suppose there's all those cars that do get repaired by insurers, so aren't recorded as they're not writer off, floating about. Basically anything is likely to have had some repair....
Our old xsara vts was insurer repaired and was bloody awful! Took 3 attempts to get it passable enough to even sell on!! |
Given that the C (or is it D) pillar has been welded half-way up, suggests that it was some serious damage on the back end and that section has been replaced, so what else is gone? Is the chassis straight? Is the welding up to scratch? Will it split on you half-way down the motorway?
And would the next owner know how badly it was damaged? |
I wouldn't touch it with:
a) a barge pole b) yours c) the gloves in a Class III containment hood Delete as appropriate. |
That B post should have been replaced not welded.

that looks like a bad car with lots of work and it aint worth his buy it now £10,000 more like £5000 you can buy these now for under £20,000 |
The worrying bit I spotted was the line of metal showing through on the right rear roof pillar.
I have worked for a Porsche repair shop in the past and have taken Cat C Boxsters and 996s apart for them to be straightened, sections welded in etc, painted and then I had to put them back together. Looking at what I have seen with Cat C cars that have been repaired, I wouldn't want to be in one in an accident. The worst two were a red Boxster S with less than 1,000 miles... the chassis still wasn't straight after and the other was a 996 C4 which had been upside down at high speed - so much so that the metal had worn through both layers!! Another roof was stitched in. Cat Ds are prob as far as I would go. MG |
suspect if anyone buys it they will probably develop and maybe even expire from some horrible body shop dust related lung disease which will at least prevent them from driving it and therefore limit the death toll, which may well be significantly higher if they were to survive and get it back on the road, very scary:(
|
Why is that car crying out cut and shut in my head.
|
thats because it is cut and shut
its had a complete back end welded on some idiot is bidding over £8000 now no thanks £5000 i would buy it and and track it to death--job done and on that bombshell ............................................. |
Well the RS4 sold for nearly 10K, I really feel sorry for the person who buys it once repaired believing it to be a good car since its HPI clear.
|
My dad's old a4 had a replacement rear 3/4 panel through no fault of his own and it was always evident even though the overall quality of the repair was ok. Never easy to hide it unless they actually make a proper job of it. Hope the eventual owner of this rs4 goes over it thoroughly and knows what they're getting into....
