ash_a8 11th February 2013 09:30 PM

i thought it was in the info bit ?

ash_a8 12th February 2013 12:15 PM

hi guys the gearbox place confirmed fluid is defo low but they think there might be damage to clutch for drives 1st gear as the smell, i cant afford to fix so anyone please make a offer to buy it 750 or best offer it has 140k on it

ainarssems 12th February 2013 01:04 PM

It will be hard to get that kind of money for non running car. If you are interested we might have accident damaged 1997 3.7 non quattro, 96k miles with good gearbox for sale soon to use for spares. Might be even possible to remove gearbox and sell on it's own. This one: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5740

ash_a8 12th February 2013 01:33 PM

hi sorry cant afford to but it like i said its near offer if anyone is serious in buying it let me know what price you have and can come up with something as i need to buy a cheap car to run around as this was my only car its got to be worth 500?
say 200 for wheels 200 for interior plus engine and panels ect scrap?

ash_a8 12th February 2013 08:07 PM

will take 500 ono this weekend as need to get a run about to get to work

IT 12th February 2013 08:24 PM

I think you'd be less dissapointed aiming for half of that.

I think everybody here has sympathy for the dud you've obtained, but the sad reality is that it would be worth barely a grand in fully working order, and as a non-runner its worth a fraction of that.

It is a nice colour, and it is a sport, so it looks nice enough, but its prefacelift and there arent many parts on it of value to others to be honest. Sure, you can sell a few bit off it, but then its a non-running shell thats even harder to get rid of.

If you've got zero comeback on the seller who passed you on the lemon, then you're gonna have to cut your losses and look for about £200 - £300 for it.

Not trying to be unfriendly here, just honest, so you dont spend weeks trying to sell it for megabux that wont happen. At least it has an MOT and tax for a few more weeks, someone could drive it away, albeit in 2nd gear would be a bit painful.....

ash_a8 12th February 2013 09:43 PM

like i said or near offer the least i want to take is 400 as i know i could take wheels and interior out and scrap the rest for 250 -300 with out scrap prices here but dont want to id rather it go to some one who will fix or break it properly surely its got to be worth 400 there seats are mint

HPsauce 12th February 2013 09:57 PM

I think people here are being honest.
These big old barges aren't worth much when they're working, even less with expensive problems.

Have a guess how much the 2 in my signature pic are worth - the grey one I sold (1998, 130000m) and the dark green one I bought (2003 70000m) both in January. Both are well-loaded S8's.

I would tend to agree with Ian, have you asked the forum sponsors what they might give you for it? oh and have to suggest your definition of mint for the interior is a bit dubious:tuttut:

wouldnt even call mine mint and think it is in better condition

ash_a8 12th February 2013 10:08 PM

mint for its age ok well good condition so no rips ect no how can i contact them its gotta be worth the 400 ? i know you can get them cheap but less is scrap money

briang9 12th February 2013 10:13 PM

try up at the top of the page for contact details ^^^^^^

ash_a8 12th February 2013 10:17 PM

Whoever buys it to brake for parts does it to make money not to brake even. Transporting, breaking, storing all costs money. There are very little PF 8's left on the road so demand for parts is low and most of parts will never be sold. These cars are so cheap in running order that anything more then minor issue and they are going to scrap.

The only thing fairly easy to sell and worth something are wheels.

There is no demand for seats, maybe drivers seat can make £50 if in good condition and somebody buys it as replacement for worn seat, rest are pretty much worthless. Forum member recently gave away front seats for free, not sports seats but none the less. I had a chance to buy full set of half leather half alcantara seats as upgrade for £100 but decided not to. There is no demand for body panels. Nobody buys engine as replacement as too costly comparing to value of car and if doing retrofit in another car or kit car it makes sense to pay a bit more and get 4.2 so 3.7 is basically only worth scrap metal price.

I would think they are too far away and would need to get it for next to nothing to be worth picking up but there is no harm asking.

Your only hope is that some car dealer from Eastern Europe buys it and exports it to brake for parts as they are much more worth there than in UK.

For my sins I own a '98 PF 4.2 QS bought as a project car. I was looking to buy quite a few bits 'n' bobs from A8 parts I'd got the bill up to the several hundred pounds mark (plus P&P). Then I had a chance conversation at a petrol station of all places, with a local farmer, end result I now own another 4.2 QS in the very same Racing Green paintwork that I'll be using for spares. There's nothing at all wrong with the car other than the fact that it's owner stated that it costs too much to insure and run. It's even taxed and MOT'd up to the end of May. It cost me £480.00 It would have £450.00 but the owner had just put £30.00 worth of petrol in the tank (We met by chance in a petrol station) The car's done 140,000 ish miles. These cars can be bought for peanuts and are worth far more if broken for parts. I'm lucky enough to have a large garage/workshop where this car can be stored indoors and have parts removed as required. If my roadworthy 8 was damaged or written off the 'garage queen' could even be re-built and returned to roadworthy status. Exactly the same as we used to do to countless airframes during my RAF days.

S8's are a different matter I'm currently stalking a Pearl White one. It's a one owner (retired high ranking RAF Officer my old boss) and 17,000 mile from new example, I've known this car since the day it was delivered to the gates of RAF Waddindton. It'll be mine by the middle of the year, it's being replaced by a White Audi A1 TDi Sportback.

Having said all that I'm still looking to buy an electric rear blind for my car. I've got one fitted but it refuses to retract, how big a job are these to replace?

Are Pearl White 8's so uncommon then? I do know of a pair of LHD W12 LWB's in Pearl White both fitted with the 'Mobile office' options Fax, fold down rear tables, leccy rear seats ect I think one has a glass partition to stop the driver snooping, There's also a rarely used pauper spec LHD 3.3 TDi. The same person owns all three, he runs a wedding car hire company, though the Audi's have all been replaced by a trio of RR Phantoms and a single Bentley Mulsanne now. He's also got what must be the lowest mileage RS6+ avant in the country, lucky sod. Last time I was down at his place it had just clocked up 1,100 miles, some folk have all the luck, and most of the Pearl White Audi's.

Errr...probably more than one, but I think we know who'll be at the front of the stalking queue ;)

Singh 15th February 2013 12:31 PM

Could have swapped with my Punto, but I'd rather stab myself in the foot than buy a front wheel drive Audi, shame.

Hmmm...I never thought I'd hear you rate a Fiat Punto ahead of an Audi A8 . Chances of The Smiths re-forming have just increased :D

For those missed a bargain first time round

It is back on ebay again....http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/vie...id=79206133511

mannyo 17th February 2013 08:46 AM

I guess the buyer thought they had a bargain until he/she realised the true cost of replacing the gearbox which we all know is what is required.

Bought the other day as a project, yet just a couple of days later does not have the time for it...
