Ok then folks, here's your Romping Reporter checking in with the details for our hotel/base for the Annual A8/S8 Owners Meeting in the Forest of Dean -

We have also asked that they reserve the lowest price rooms upwards and here is a selection of the rooms and prices etc - All prices are Per Room per night for a Double or Twin Rooms and are for Bed and Full English Breakfast for 2 people - • Cottage Twin or Double (2 of each available) £67.50 (£33.75 per head) • Cottage Twin with Sitting Room (1 available) £76.50 (£38.25 per head) • Cottage Ground Floor Double (1 available) £76.50 (£38.25 per head) • Standard Courtyard Doubles & Twins (7 available) £76.50 (£38.25 per head) • Courtyard Family Rm Sleeping 2 (3 available) £85.50 (£42.75 per head) • Main House attic double (4 available) £90.00 (£45.00 per head) • Main House Twin or Double (6 available) £99.00 (£49.50 per head) For single room occupancy only please talk to Sharone at the hotel as there could possibly be some reduction for not having 2 breakfasts. Family Rooms can accommodate up to 2 children for an additional £15/head per child. For those who want to make a weekend of it they are also offering an "Explorer Break" from £57.50 per person for 2 nights - Total cost of £230 for two people to include;- • Accommodation in a Cottage or Courtyard room • Full English breakfast each morning • A packed lunch • A two course dinner in one of the Hotel Restaurants • A two course dinner in the Orangery • Bring your four legged friend for an extra £10 per night • Upgrade to a room in the main house for an extra £10 per person per night. Right then Guys and Girlies - some of you have been asking for an idea of a schedule of events etc for the forthcoming Annual Meet in the Forest of Dean
Basic agenda is as follows: Fri pm/evening - 7th June - Arrive at speech house hotel pm or evening - Great restaurants and conservatory or garden areas and the hotel is right in the middle of the forest of dean - We will probably just have a few drinks/socialise and a meal together for those that would like to Saturday (Main Meeting) - 8th June - Breakfast at leisure - 10.00 am Trip to Dean Valley Railway for mid morning - Cream tea / brunch in a period carriage dining car at the station then a run up and down the line in a steam train & period carriage (cost £13.50 for adults, less for kids) - 12.00 Followed by a A8 cruise all around the forest of dean taking in all the sites and scenery, no quizzes or observation needed on the cruise. - 13.00 We will stop at lunchtime half way around the cruise for a "fun event" in the Symonds Yat area which involves everyone getting lost, with prizes for the winners (sponsored by A8 parts so no cost- thanks David and co!). There is also a lot of other things to do at this stop including garden centres, butterfly zoo, miniature golf etc, Then we will lunch at a nearby restaurant or pub. - 15.00 Continuing the cruise along the riverside all the way to Tintern Abbey and then back to the hotel for teatime. - 19.00 Evening meal in the Verderers Court (very Grand) at the hotel followed by a quiz hosted by your romping and raving reporters (general knowledge, picture quiz and possibly the odd Audi question! :p Prizes will be won! Retire at your leisure! Sunday - 9th June - Breakfast at Leisure - 10.00 am Cruise to Littledean Jail, the most amazing (and politically incorrect) prison you will ever have been in! all sorts of displays and memorabelia plus the quadrophenia exhibition and the chance to permanently lock up and leave your kids behind! Cost are - Adults: £7.00 OAP's: £6.00 Children (aged 8 - 16): £5.00 Children under 8: FREE Family: £20.00 If you're 100 years young then admission is FREE! - After the jail visit we will all depart in 2 groups and either cruise off north to the M5/Wales/North etc or cruise south over the Severn Bridge. Should all be great fun!! Can we PLEASE PLEASE ask you to phone the hotel as soon as possible to book your rooms up - they have generously put 20 rooms aside for us so that we can all be in the same location this year and cannot hold the rooms for ever - details are at the top of this thread along with contact numbers. Can I also please ask once again for generous donations of prizes from anyone that feels able to - A8 parts have already contributed to the lunchtime event and put some additional vouchers and prizes up but if you can pm Mike or myself with details of any items you are able to give we would be delighted - and thanks +++ . |

Thought I'd give this a 'bump'. Where is everyone? This promises to be a brilliant weekend, building on the truly excellent event in The Lake Disrict last year, which really set the standard for a meet. Family friendly too - not just a load of sad blokes talking car b****x all weekend. :D
And don't think it's too far to come - 3 of the cars on the list are coming down from Scotland! Why? Because we know it's worth the trip! Come on guys, get a room booked (nice looking hotel and a beautiful part of the country as well). Even the long range weather forecast is looking good!.:) |
Well, I for one would love to, but with a housebound 94 year-old father-in-law needing constant support the best I can say is that I "hope" to be there for the day on Saturday.

I'm coming for sure, just trying to decide if I want to spend £50+ on a hotel room.
Saturday morning is not a problem I'm only 3 hours away, but I'd like to stay for dinner and not too keen on driving back late on Saturday night. I guess I should ring the hotel and find out what their best rate is for 1 night. |

Will have to be cleaned then, it hasn't had a clean since it was bought new from Audi in November, now on 8k miles. It is used, not loved, not like the D2 was/still is.
