Echo Echo...

It's been quiet lately, not enough banter on here to distract me from my work!
So whats everyone been up to? An update from myself. I have been busy working on a now overdue accounting assignment, hope to have it finished by tonight! I also passed an assessment for a job that I want and have my second interview tomorrow! An update on the '8, well its had its detail moved to June and its also got its own stalker, a bloke in a high vis jacket came over to me when I was doing some work on the garden and started talking to me about the '8. He said 'they go like the clappers don't they?' We chatted for a bit and then he parked his Laguna estate outside my house for the next 7 hours staring right at the car, strange. Anyway, whats new with you and your 8s? +++

billblank 30th March 2009 01:36 PM

Work reviews at school and it's the last week of term so it is getting a little manic. I've been playing with tyre pressures front to rear and depending on mood can tailor to gentle understeer or very aggressive turn in with mild oversteer. Which is nice.
Lots of polishing to keep me outside the house, I need the distraction at the moment. My wedding anniversary today. We emailed each other. We live in the same house, car looks pretty nice though, Kiwi parade gloss is amusingly efficacious.

Bill

Singh 30th March 2009 01:42 PM

Hi Billbank, what were your findings with the tyre pressures then, do share! What have you set them at to give you understeer? Never heard of the Kiwi parade gloss, what colour paint are you using it on? I was just about to invest in some DoDo juice rainforest rub, anyone had any experience with this? I am going to apply it by hand!

entwisi 30th March 2009 01:43 PM

Mmmm, I thought it was just me that was finding it a bit quiet :D

me, busy finding baby stuff for pending new arrival, doing the usual spring cleaning, trying to fight the ITIL processes at work and losing( or more accurately the lack of 'common sense' in some people). training non geeks in the use of Mambo so they can keep their website up to date instead of me doing it all for them.

I got my 8 back on Friday as per my other post so I've been enjoying just having a car of my own to drive. I don't think I've looked forward to coming to work so much in ages that I'd get a decent blast in it. Only another 75 mins and I can take it home as well!

Singh 30th March 2009 01:49 PM

Glad to hear you got your car back, I remember when my S8 was at Audi. The brand new 2.0T A6 loaner just didn't cut it like my eight year old '8 does! Speaking of baby stuff, my sisters expecting soon. Ordered her one of these http://merchandise.audi.co.uk/?page=shop&pid=363&cid=85 Sad I know, but shes very much into the quattro scene having just got a New RS 6 Avant. It says something cute like 'I know that when two feet loose traction..'(cant remember the test).

Mkoneman 30th March 2009 02:40 PM

I've been busy on my girlfriends beetle for the past few weeks so the S8 has been pretty much untouched but that is all about to change. i finished the beetle, been to a show and picked up a trophy +++

so the summer wheels are ready to go back on i have a few ideas up my sleave so watch this space....

IT 30th March 2009 02:41 PM

Hi guys, yes, its been a bit quiet everywhere at the mo... Wonder where the world went... lol

We're still working hard (of course) and as I said a bit harder at this time of year. I'm now trying to wind up my IT consultancy business, so thats another overhead to sort....

Bought myself a beautiful transit van a week or so ago.... A real looker, high spec, fast, a real head turner..... NOT :D

Anyway, for £30 one can't go wrong :-) - Its good for putting the mountain bikes in which is all I care about.

Its my sons 5th birthday today, and sadly he's not been feeling too cracking... about the last 3 to 4 weeks hes been suffering shortness of breath, and hes had inhalers and steriods and all the usual asthma stuff, but its not helping, and if anything getting worse, so it was quite sad this morning to see him not as mega excited as he would be normally... :-(

He's being referred to childrens ward at hosp now, so hopefully they'll figure it out....

That aside, all's peachy +++

Singh 30th March 2009 02:55 PM

James have you seen my old A8 about at any Edition 38 events? I know Harrys taking good care of her, still miss her though! :(

Ian - Hope your lad gets well soon +++

Conan_the_Librarian 30th March 2009 04:53 PM

Ian, Hoping all goes well with the lad.

As the librarian I have continued to draw solace and inner piece from the duodecimal system and the solitude of the librarians existence. For you the forum may be quiet, but for me it is a continuing beehive of exciting activity. I monitor the posts and threads and compare them using exciting mathematical equations for the demographics comparing a Monday morning between 9:32 an and 10:26 and the following Friday between 2:14pm and 4:27. The results are very important and if enough of you are intersted I will publish my findings in 10 volumes...............

Conan_the_Librarian 30th March 2009 05:30 PM

Me? I continue to march the globe as a member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces battling tyranny and oppression wherever I and my fellow Titans find it. The enemy's of the Queen tremble at our approach! +++

As an example of the continuing unrelenting struggle we have on our hand(s) in ensuring you all sleepsafe abed tonight, today I wrote to the council to get some bollards installed to stop the pavement outside the gate from being broken up by vehicles mounting the kerb, causing trip hazards for the general public.

They have yet to reply but it shall not stop our never ending labours in the proper use of your taxes. +++

Architex_mA8tey 30th March 2009 07:55 PM

LOL conan are you related to Frank on Vicar of Dibley that keeps the parish minutes?
I have had the busiest March ever, organised and attended 2 exhibitions at Earls Court and the NEC  Been to Norway on business and also had the Norwegians come and visit us (god Norway is boring lol even the major cities are like a sunday morning at their busiest!)
Also been involved in the Olympics & tendering for some work linked to the housing side and spent a day last week being "brought up to date" on it all by the good and the great at the ODC (nice to see its all still on time and on budget despite the lack of assistance from Conan the Librarian. . . ahem).
Saw a nice metallic green S8 D2 with the personal Reg G6 xxx at Olympia in London and wondered if it was anyone on here? I was in my A4 at the time.
My poor 8 has seen little use due to working weekends but has been out to play the last few days (ahh thats better!) and when not decorating (yes dear coming now. . :p) I have been organising some new discs and pads and a service and some summer wheels :D
Also bought a digital box to install in the boot and play with and need to run the cables thro like Oli for my Archos Media Player to under the armrests in the front
now, where did all that time go? geez I think this year is going at double speed!

Oli18 30th March 2009 09:52 PM

You guys crack me up! ... bunch of girls!

I'll join in with the girly banter!

The 8

Well, I've made good use of my 8 the last few weekends. As some of you may have noticed, i took her for a good 'ole run to West-Midlands Safari Park the other day which was a hoot!

This weekend, i drove up to essex and bought a new front door for the gf and drove it all the way to Swindonia....all i can say is that i never thought that the 4 anchor points in the boot which is meant for the boot net would be so useful.

Work

Work is mega busy. They laid off 3 guys in my team so i'm on my own now which presents itself with certain challenges but it's still good fun.

Bike license

I currently have a 125cc moped that i use to commute into work everyday. It's awesome but i can't take the gf on the back as i only have my CBT.

I took friday off and took my Theory Test in Uxbridge (and passed)...next to a whole bunch of multiple choice questions, they do a hazard perception nowadays which is interesting.

Have taken wed/thu/fri off to do my Direct Access...the test is on friday so wish me luck! +++ Not thinking of buying a bigger bike but just want to be able to poodle around town on the weekends with the gf ... it's ideal in london and means we can explore the place much more easily.

Holidays

Am off to Port Isaac in Cornwall during easter to stay at a friends' house (4 of us will be driving up in the 8...they other 3 will be watching some movies on the way up i'm sure), going camping later in april with the 8 near Salcombe in Devon (any tips welcome!!) and then off to the Dominican late may to get a tan going! These chicken legs need some roastin'!

That's it really...my life in a nutshell! :)

-Oli

PS - Ian, really sorry to hear about your boy. Best wishes and hope he gets well soon.

harpersimon 31st March 2009 08:37 AM

Hello all - Simon's roundup -

work - challenging to say the least! Busy enough but bordering on being made redundant, (don't like the work anyway but still could do without that). Going to see a man about a dog this week so fingers crossed I'll have a new challenge in the not too distant.

Home - Wife fell over quite badly recently while locking up the restaurant she manages in the dark and wet - that was fun trying to stop her arm leaking all night last week. She's on the mend though and back to work (crack the whip)

General - WELL happy for my old chums at Brawn - been celebrating that in numerous messy ways so far this week!

The '8 - well she's had a couple of weekends attention - changed the front discs, then pads once I had the right ones (third time lucky from the parts man!). Brakes are nice and smooth now, still got the 'balance' wobble but think I am getting somewhere with that having pumped the tyres up a little harder it appears to have got better. Thinking it IS balancing out after all.

Holiday planned in Mid May for a week in Bude at a relations farm. Nice.

Thats about it. Work , Sleep, work , sleep, weekend, work, sleep, work , sleep, etc etc

PsYcHe 31st March 2009 10:47 AM

Suppose I should add my sob story ;)

Been busy, busy, busy with Public Sector year end and them all wanting to spend the last of their money.

Home's been fun, with working so hard and training 4-5 nights a week for a black belt (passed on Saturday), I've hardly seen anything outside my office & bedroom. '8 got new rear discs and pads, but has developed an annoying squeal from there, so if the weather stays nice today, going to pop the wheel off and see if something's not sitting right.

Off to Newquay at the weekend for the week with a stop off in Bristol on the way down. Meeting up with Figure11 while we're down, then a nice blast back up the roads on the Easter weekend, great!

harpersimon 31st March 2009 02:29 PM

let have an A8OC fight Club..

oh.. you'd win.

A8_Tony 7th April 2009 08:10 PM

I've been balls out this past few weeks.

Aside from the absolutely manic day job, implementing accounting/business management solutions for my clientele (anyone want Sage support/advice gimme a shout (oh that was a shameless plug!)) I've been busy sorting out A8OC stuff.

I actually didn't expect to be quite so busy with everything A8OC related, but you'd be very surprised.

Girls are keeping my busy at home, and the car is feeling just a little neglected :( She needs new front pads (RS4 Pagids :D) which I've got to buy soon, and then likely I'll fit 'em myself :D

Microsage? Not heard of it unfortunately fella.

As a company we've developed our own interface for the Sage Paypoint solution, as we found that the standard one wasn't flexibile enough for one of our customers. We've a huuuuuuge amount of experience across the board in all things Sage though. Including one of the original Authors of Sky!!!! (Not the satellite TV company :tuttut:)

Conan_the_Librarian 8th April 2009 05:59 PM

OMG Geeks, Geeks everywhere and not a word do I understand!

entwisi 8th April 2009 07:26 PM

Just be grateful there isn't another Java/Websphere geek on here... :D

The problem here Conan is you're not sure where your SOP and EPOS system integrate with your ST system, and eventually the SL, NL and BS.

Once you've got that lot figured out, it's easy :)

Conan_the_Librarian 8th April 2009 09:16 PM

I know BS when I hear it!!:p

Simon Wallwork 10th April 2009 02:57 PM

Figure 11

There will be a few folk who don't know where you got your user name.

As an ex wearer of a green suit myself, alles klar.+++

Personally, my wife and one daughter are in Cyprus and the other daughter is in Portugal.

Me? Off to the pub!

Conan_the_Librarian 10th April 2009 03:06 PM

:) Your a spotter Simon! :)

I wear a Blue suit actually and have done for the past 33 years.

I use the Figure 11 for my on-line gaming addiction where I play FPS. I also know what a Fig 11 feels like! :(

Simon Wallwork 11th April 2009 11:41 PM

It's true. I am a spotter!

WTF is FPS tho?

entwisi 12th April 2009 02:57 AM

FPS = First person Shooter, games where you are walking around blowing things away, started with Wolfenstein 3D and went from there......

:D

Conan_the_Librarian 12th April 2009 07:40 AM

Except in COD4 where its all about the tactics and collaborative team work that I enjoy. One Shot One Kill is my mantra......................

Architex_mA8tey 12th April 2009 07:42 AM

Whatever happened to Duke Nukem - one shot kills everything in a huge radius LOL ;)

PsYcHe 12th April 2009 10:12 AM

Or in doom .. turn on god mode, infinite ammo, and all weapons :) Kaboom :D

billblank 13th April 2009 05:01 PM

Desert Combat: an apache with a good gunner, upside down and killing everything you can see, including Mirages. Always brought a glow of pleasure to be called a cheating **** by americans.

Bill

A8_Tony 13th April 2009 08:53 PM

FPS .....also = Frames Per Second.

Something that's incredibly important for the enjoyment of any game. Anything less than 25......don't even bother

Conan_the_Librarian 13th April 2009 09:23 PM

as low as 25 exists? Pfffff
