Some of you at the Speech House may recall my wife extolling the virtues of a place we stayed in the Borders, referencing David Steel. No-one could recall the place though.
Well it was Ettrickbridge and we stayed at the Cross Keys Inn. Sadly it appears that the cottage-style accommodation we used as well (large group) is no longer associated with the pub which only has 5 rooms. David Steel's place is (was?) Aikwood Tower (he's now Baron Steel of Aikwood) just along the road; we looked round it and my daughter played piano with his wife while he was working in the summer house. I guess he's moved as it's now an upmarket holiday property. http://www.aikwoodtower.com/ Picture of the pub showing the presumably now-unrelated cottages. It's a nice play to stay, eat and drink if anyone is going that way and a lovely area for touring and walking. |

Looks like this one isn't on the events list - although it's not just Audi, there are a number of forum members who've attended on previous years, so probably worth adding.

Cheers Neil - I'm definitely going - any others, especially those in the North West/Yorkshire fancy joining me? If so, I'll see about getting a '8 area reserved for us with the organiser.

I know most of you are getting excited about the Castle Combe meet,
I was wondering what happen to the London event that was getting discussed, did it fall through in the end? |
