"Device fault" message on MMI for CD changer
While changing from one CD to another, I suddenly got the message "Device fault" on my MMI screen. Tried the 'Tel' + 'MMI select Button + 'top right button' to reset the whole MMI but still not working and it's now completely dead :( all other MMI functions work
Anybody else had this before? I listen to CDs almost all the time and I'm always changing between CDs so it does get a lot of use. |
Does sound like the CD changer may have died.. Could have just jammed on a disc.. Sounds like the ideal time to upgrade to an AMI :)

Not sure about the AMI upgrade. All I want is a simple CD change in working order lol. Around £100 on ebay for a replacement by the looks of it... |
the component protection will kick in as well if you change these units so factor in a trip to the dealers
or before writing it off, try to fix the one you have, try this power off, keys out, mmi off remove the unit from the media position with the audi unlocking key thingy carefully detach the most cable at the rear, leave of for 5 mins or so, then reattach the cables power up and give it a try, shouldnt need to reboot the mmi |
Ah yes, didn't think of the theft protection. I assume the 'Audi keys' are two prongs which remove the unit? Like what are used on the head unit of other cars?
I definitely don't have any of those :( |
its more key looking than the 2 prongs
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_od...moval&_sacat=0 not sure if there are different versions |
Well the keys came. I removed the unit and unplugged it for a few minutes.
When I put everything back, the unit started flashing, as such: View My Video ...and hasn't stopped since. I left the glovebox open, locked the car, came back 15 minutes later and looked through the window and its still flashing away with the same pattern! When I go on CD in the MMI, all CD slots now show as Empty rather than 'Device fault' like before. Looks like I'll need a new unit :( |
thats not a good sign, I do have one i would let go for a £100, and whatever postage costs, it worked perfectly, just removed it to put the AMI in.
|
Pop the case off it and check for any jams inside.. Otherwise it's gubbed and you're looking at a replacement (see above), or an AMI.
|
have you still not get any cp kicking in when you put the new one in?
|
Nope! Still playing CDs as normal. However, if I burn blank CDs myself from a blank disc, it only plays a few tracks on the CD and not all of them. Would this be the component protection?
|
no dont think so, i mainly used this type and had no trouble, maybe try different disks, or burning software
its interesting that cp hasnt kicked in like it should have, only way to know for sure is to scan it with vagcom. |
Yeah I'll have a play around. But I always just burn in iTunes.
|
Sounds more like it doesn't like your discs. Burn them at a lower speed and see how you get on.

Didn't think of the burn speed. I usually do it at 2x so I'll try it slower. But there's definitely no problems playing CDs I've bought so no sign of any component protection
