Spark Plug recomendations
Hi Guys,
I'd like to get some funky new spark plugs and see if it will help my poor warm starting on LPG. The sticky has details on fitting http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...sparkplug.html And they suggest Bosch Platinum +4 (Model number 4457) - But these seem to be an american part number also refered to HGR7DQ on the net However whats the UK equivolent ??? Or what would people recomend ??? Cheap suppliers are also useful :-) Thanks, Lee |
Bosch or NGK are the best mate, let me know what prices your getting them for. I might be able to get them cheaper. +++

Actualy having a second look through that thread....Those are for an 3.7 and mines a S8 4.2 AVP.....so they would have posibly been wrong
Hmmm http://www.carsparkplugs.com/ViewPlugs.aspx?id=195 Has an interesting selection. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250396306848 Has the NGK for about the same price, probably indicating the above website isn't too bad. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bosch-Super-Pl...1%7C240%3A1318 Has the yitrium bosh for a couple of of quid less than that site....tempting ! Lee |
I'm sure I can get you them a lot cheaper, hang on. I'll go and ask my supplier :D
|
Hi There,
Any joy....I'm probably more tempted with the Bosch ones ? Ta, Lee |
Sorry mate, been trying to look for this thread. I'm afraid he can't get them cheap now. I got 8 NGK Spark plugs, for a A8 and a S6 for £12 about a month ago! I spoke to a few people and they all recommended the NGK over the Boschs, its all NGK do and they are the OEM plug on the B7 RS 4 so it must be a good brand, i'd go with the NGKs over Bosch +++
|
For my 95 4.2 D2 A8, carsparkplugs.com are recommending:
HGR7KQC Bosch Super Spark Plug at £3.62 each and £28.96 for the 8 ex. VAT and BUR6EFSZ NGK Spark Plug at £3.26 each and £26.11 for the 8 ex. VAT I see that it is recommending different plugs for the S8 compared to the A8 and different plugs after 1999 |
For the Bosch:
Total for items: £28.96 Shipping cost: £3.01 (recorded delievery) VAT at 15%: £4.80 Total amount: £36.77 |
Are 4.2 A8 plugs the same as 4.2 S8?
can i buy these for my A8? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bosch-Super-Pl...3%3A1|294%3A50 |
Hi There,
In messing with engine compression pulled the spark plugs and the ones in there are the NGK R BKR6EQUP - Has the 4 electrodes which reading up seems to be for longevity as only the closest one is used ! Am tempted with some of the iridium ones, BKR6EIX however there seems to be an 11 varient which i can't see why and an LPG....However on some sites these are listed as for Taxis, so i've no idea !!! cya, Lee |
When Ben had my car in for a service he refused to use any other spark plug then the platinum tipped (IIRC) ones from Audi, so that's what I have currently. +++
|
I'm a big NGK fan myself, using the only dailies and racer.
Their website used to have a big database of cars, and their nkg codes. There is also a break down of the codes, if you want to work out what differs between an s8 and an a8 4.2 plug. The 4 prong ones are for long life - electricity takes the shortest route, and your doing well if you split it into 4 sparks!!!! Singh - may I ask how much the audi ones where? As I have a receipt for the previous owner paying £12EACH for plugs + labour! But don't know what he got for his money. |
Hi there,
Well i still have the NGK R BKR6EQUP and they will probably clean up. I'd guess the missfire and crappy timining would account for the fouling so they are probably ok. Howver i just went for a punt on the BKR6EIX iridium ones as they suposdily produce a better spark and cope with LPG better. The 11 moniker is for bigger electrode and wider gap, so steer well clear of those. Not sure about the specific LPG ones as i think they are just designed to last longer and you should get 60-100k off plugs by what i've read so, i'll skip that. £48 inc postage as the guy charges one off shipping for upto 16 !!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT I'll report back how it goes ! Lee |
I can't remember now as I had a full service and some gearbox seals replaced at the same time. But Ben was adamant we only used Audi plugs so I agreed, I do remember they were quite a bit more then I could have got non Audi ones for. I think he mentioned something about without Audi ones the cylinders would run hotter. I'm sure he will be along soon to advise further.
|
Hi Singh,
Any idea who makes the Audi ones and what the park code etc is ??? Mine has already been running the NGK platinum ones so any cylinder hotness should have shown up ? ta, Lee |
I think its Bosch but not sure, I know Audi RS models come with NKG

Hi There,
Well the Iridium IX just turned up at my office. Damn quick service. Rather impressed. Yep. They look like spark plugs....Less grubby than my old ones, but is still just a spark plug ! Will try them when i get a working engine ! cya, Lee |
Hi Bosch spark plug HGR7KQC fits A8 and S8 4.2 and 3.7 to 98, FGR6KQE fits A8 and S8 4.2 and 3.7 98 on. Bosch are the OE supplier so what yoy get from Audi is Bosch with the Audi symbol embossed on the plug. I work for GMF motor factors in South Wales we stock them and they are £3.26 + vat each for the first part number and £5.34 + vat for the second part number.
