Wiper blades for Audi A8 D3

So, maybe a silly topic, but it may help someone with getting it right on the first time ;)

I thought I will just share the light on fitting type and sizes after after spending almost £70 just to fit new wiper blades, doh.
I couldn't find any info here, only for D2s, so there you go.

After getting it wrong with Bosch blades I went with Lucas Clearvison blades only because shop assured me that this is the correct fitting and they had nothing in 24'' size from AeroTwins

>>> 2003 - 2008
Fit: Direct fit
Length: 24'' (both)

http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/audi-a8...-wiper-blades/

>>> 2009 on
Fit: Push Button Fit
Length: 27'' & 21''

http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/audi-a8...n-wiper-blade/

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In regards to length on 2003-2008 D3s
For 3 years I had 22'' or 23'' blades fitted and there was nothing wrong with them, but during the recent purchase I realised that they should be 24'' and they fit well.
But if you have 23'' blades they will do the job no problem

I fitted Lucas ClearVision LWDF24C

I would also strongly recommend you guys applying this coating when changing blades.
The difference it makes is unbelieveable.

I have a 2008 facelift car. Seems my blades arent correct. Both are 21inch.

This matches for the shorter one but not the longer one for the '2009 onwards' car.

Chaz 29th November 2015 03:56 PM

According to this, mine are 22inch each, measures correctly.

http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/audi-a8...-wiper-blades/

Where did you get info that its 24 inch each for the 2003 - 2008 cars?

There is no longer wiper from 2009 on EKTA, they are the same part number for all D3s - why do you think one should be longer they should be 580mm?

According to this, mine are 22inch on both sides.

Having re read the thread, the OP managed to get 24inch installed.

snapdragon 29th November 2015 08:04 PM

Hmmm, my original 4 year old Audi blades are ~23,1/4" - I measured them when I just took the rubbish out.
I would say 24" are right - my blade tip is the same distance from the edge of screen as M-A8's.

EDIT//
I have been looking online tonight and most sellers are selling 22" (which seems like a step down) or LHD versions so the wind would lift them off the screen.

I have found that SWF who made my Audi ones do not list any in RHD in their catalogue.
The Valeo (who own SWF) don't list the D3 in the RHD catalogue.
But I find Mercedes CLK 2002> blades look like they fit but are 22-23".

Will check other merc models.

Paid for mine 55 quid at audi
15£ saving vs genuine.....not worth it in my opinion

Somerandomguy 30th November 2015 06:32 PM

Swf?

I found the same with the SWF catalogue, only LHD listed. Looking online, the SWF ones can be found for about £25, so I was planning on getting a set to see if the mounting clips can be reversed to turn them into RHD...

I just went to TPS and the wipers are £42/pr with maximum discount.
The new ones are also SWF. Good price for -30˚ 5l screenwash so picked a couple up to offset the wiper cost.

I would try that if I was going for something else, but I think the risk of it ending in a ding-dong at the service desk is too high.

Fair enough, last time I used this it was at the parts counter...... the parts guy almost insisted on fitting them but for £39 so I didn't grumble +++

I agree picked mine up from Epsom and they gave me a trade discount because '...... those cars are expensive enough to run as it is'

Chaz 8th December 2015 05:24 PM

So I fit the Lucas wipers. What a load of ****. Waiting to hear back from the supplier.

This is the result with brand new blades and a windscreen treated with the clear glass stuff. My old blades (fortunately I did not bin them) are 1000% better.

So it sounds like there is a thin film / plastic protector that I havent removed. I checked for it, it clearly looks wrong but didnt see anything.

Embarrassed if this is the case :-( Lets see tonight when I get home.

Chaz 9th December 2015 07:48 PM

Nothing to see here, keep moving on :-)

Mail just sent to the supplier -

"Thanks, all sorted.

I wasnt too surprised when the blades came out of the box with a 'clear' blade. Interesting use of the name 'Clear vision'. I even moved the plastic and thought 'what an odd design' ....

Anyways, rather embarrassingly Ill go back to my corner.

Thanks"

47p2 9th December 2015 08:28 PM

Lol

Glad you sorted it +++

snapdragon 9th December 2015 08:35 PM

Oh well, all's well that ends well!

Somerandomguy 31st December 2015 06:36 AM

Update on SWF

I finally bought the LHD SWf set from Amazon - they are reversed and dont fit without modification.:-( The good news is that this is a very simple modification.:)

the only difference is the retaining clip, so its simply a matter of removing the clip and replacing it with your existing clip on the other side- the blades then can be rotated to fit in the right orientation (locating lugs and built in spoiler)

I've just ordered the Lucas ones referenced by Marcin in the first post, mine have been on the car for the two years I've owned it and who knows how long before.

snapdragon 2nd February 2016 05:11 PM

What happened to Marcin!? He suddenly disappeared in the autumn.

I don't know, he's gone very quiet.

Wiper blades arrived today, all fitted and working perfectly after removing the plastic protection.

M-A8 28th February 2016 06:39 PM

As you are probably aware by now, I am alive and doing well now +++
Re wipers, I found them very decent for £17 inc delivery.
Have fitted second set 2 weeks ago so I can comfortably say they will last at least 18months, but just about.
Good buy and good performance for the money and I did fitted 24'' once on both sides as previously and they work as they should.

Well thanks to this thread; I thought I would try it. I booked on the telephone and confirmed the price (and that VAT and fitting was included). With positive confirmations, I went in today and sure enough - £39 fitted, inc VAT and fitting. Plus a complimentary Health-check and offer to wash and vacuum. A coffee (and a biscuit). So great value (or a price error). I could probably do this for a weekly wash and vac and sell the blades on eBay for more...

Although they still managed to fit them incorrectly! They did not push the securing clips "home / flush". Hence there was a 10mm gap which looked obviously wrong. Anyway, I soon sorted that myself. It is just a case of lining the clip up with the wiper arm.
