Mic & VC not working

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP

Hi
Long story short, I lost driver for bluetooth/telephone module during MMI update (can't connect via VCDS to the module, no bluetooth, no phone). After 14months of looking for the correct module with exactly same SW number I've received new module few hours ago.

Straight swap, phone connects with no problems, can view phone book, I can make the calls and I can hear the person on the other end BUT they can't hear me !!!!!!!!!!

How frustrating is that??? I'll tell you, I almost turned the car upside down and hurt my wrist after punching the steering wheel !!!!

I've checked all the possible phone, call and bluetooth settings on the phone (Sony Xperia Z Android) and can't see anything obvious.
While on the call I can switch between (option on the phone screen): Bluetooth device (in-car handsfree, mic not working), Speaker (phone speaker, caller CAN hear me but whole conversation is through the phone not car speakers) or phone's earpiece (same, they hear me, conversation via phone not car speakers)

Everything was in full working order before I lost the driver/module.

Come on guys, I know you can come up with some fix !!!
I believe in you....

Thank you

M-A8 17th February 2014 05:29 PM

...just tried same thing with another android (Samsung Galaxy S4) and nothing, can make the call and hear other person but they can't hear me !!!!

Previously when it went wrong I was using iPhone 4S if that helps.

Cheers guys

PsYcHe 17th February 2014 05:40 PM

I can't remember exactly where the option is, but there is one for either the speech system or another related module that if you turn that on, it disables the mic for phone, but can't remember where.

Cheers pal +++
Is that in MMI or VCDS??
I looked all over MMI and found a function to switch the mic on and off. Nothing

Restored default settings

No fault codes in Telephone module

One guy said he went to Audi and they had to reinstall bluetooth driver!?!?!
What do you think guys about that, have you done it before and do you have one by any chance

I've got the latest SW

Is reinstalling risky?? I don't want to lose new module again, really really frustrated atm.

Also I changed the coding as it was coded for Germany so changed 1 to 2(UK)

Another thing I've noticed, see attached, sticker says SW......... F as twas my original SW and what I have to replace with but VCDS shows SW.......... M?!?!?!?

Delboy 17th February 2014 06:02 PM

Going back a few steps did you run the updates more than once as I have heard others talking about having to run the second disk more than once to update the bluetooth module.

Its for that very reason I have chickened out of updating mine, if it aint broke, don't fix it....

Although I do find it hard to resist.

Have you got a vcds scan from back when it was all working and compare your coding to what you have now?

M-A8 17th February 2014 06:21 PM

The thing I'm afraid of is reinstalling anything to do with phone or MMI, my pants are full already and I've changed quiet few dippers already.

I'm trying to get hold of my scan from over a year ago before it went wrong, but its kept on another laptop 150miles away, but the owner is on his daily MMA training so I'm eating my nails as he is not picking up his phone, like he couldn't wear a bluetooth earpiece !!!!

In coding you can change only 3 digits, one is mmi high on standard, second is car with MOST or without and third digit is country selection, so not much choice.

What is that MOST???

Delboy 17th February 2014 06:43 PM

MOST is the Fibre optic ring, (Media Oriented Systems Transport)

Delboy 17th February 2014 06:47 PM

My one looks slight different

Here's my coding

Address 77: Telephone Labels: 4E0-910-336.lbl
Part No SW: 4E0 910 336 M HW: 4E0 862 335
Component: Handyvorb2 H13 1130

Coding: 0010900

VCID: 2C57EBA98F7F7778AC3

M-A8 17th February 2014 06:56 PM

So I do have MOST then

Why in your codding second digit from the end is 0 if that's the country selection and UK is 2 ??? 1-Germany and 0 was I think rest of the world??
Picture I attached earlier was taken before changing coding to UK

VCDS shows M but label says F and it was sold as F...and F is the only one which could fix my problem because lost driver modul MUST be replaced with same SW ???? So looks like mine is M which really drives me insane now, but it ALMOST works, could that be the reason??? Do I need to match the mic now which would make no sense as mic is a mic, not rocket science ??

Mic can't be faulty because vag would throw a fault about Microphone Rsomething.

I'm off to my Round Table meeting now, I'll be back in 2h.

Any input guys will be very much appreciated otherwise I won't be able to sleep, last night because of aches after 6h clean, tonight because of that bloody phone !!!!!!!!

Delboy 17th February 2014 07:02 PM

Couldn't say why mine is coded that way, it just is.

Why would you have to use a specific software or hardware revision, I can't see the car being that fussy it has to be exact as modules get superseded all the time.

mannyo 17th February 2014 07:58 PM

it could just be the coding on the module, I guess the coding is different between a car that has voice control and bluetooth than just bluetooth for example. The coding would tell the module where the microphone is connected. Assuming of course you have not forgotten to plug the mic in, or plugged it into the wrong connection.
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...aration#Coding

Might also be worth reviewing this thread. http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2850266
Seems to be the same issue.

Try coding the bluetooth module as 0010900 which is the coding for no voice control, assuming your car does not have voice control. Currently its coded for German voice control.

PsYcHe 17th February 2014 08:44 PM

That I think is the option I messed up before.. sounds familiar.

M-A8 18th February 2014 01:15 AM

Del, I don't know, but the guys I spoke with, Audi's Master Technician for years with a huge experience as he was working as a MT all over the world, told me he seen bluetooth modules going wrong many times during MMI update and the only straight forward fix was to replace with exact same SW number and last letter

PsYcHe, that's what I thought, but mic on or off makes no difference

Manny, it's 2am now so I quickly looked at the links you posted and I think I found a clue. In second link there is another link explaining the coding of 07 Control Head and when I did Auto-Scan last Sunday I've noticed this:

Thanks for that link to Ross-Tech as well. I was so annoyed with it I wasn't thinking about looking in the obvious places.

I will see if there is a guide for adaptation and basic settings of Control Head.
Will also try adaptation and will do basic settings as well for the phone 77

To clarify your suggestion about plugging the mic and voice control.

I've got OEM bluetooth and Voice Control as well hence I used 2 instead of 0.
I haven't touched the mic either.
There is no separate connection for the mic, just one big connector, one fibre optic connection and aerial connection.

THANK YOU GUYS
Will update you later on, let me have 5h of sleep and I will start digging into it

mannyo 18th February 2014 07:03 AM

Control head problem is easy to fix, I had that after I did the MMI upgrade.

07 - Control Head,

Adaption Channel 12, most likely set to zero like mine was. Pick the correct setting from below.

0 - No Telephone installed
1 - Fixed Motorola Phone (eg. Phone handset in centre console)
2 - Mobile Phone Prep or Bluetooth installed.
3 - Telematics installed.

From that I suspect you need to set it to 2

M-A8 18th February 2014 11:12 AM

Frustration level - 98%

This just messed up my whole day today.
Where to start???

First of all Voice Control 67 - NOT Working any more, when pressed, message: ''Button not used''
Advanced measuring blocks:
- voltage 0
- Mic 1, 2 & 3 - 0

- No soft codding in Voice Control, no adaptation function

Steering wheel is coded as it should be for Voice Control

Control Head 07
- no fault codes
- coding 0000002
- Adaptation; Manny, I've got a slightly different options in channel 12, number 2 is a Mobile Phone Base Plate Installed --> NOT Mobile Phone Prep or Bluetooth installed ????

Telephone 77
- no fault codes
- coding 0010920 (MMI High, with MOST, Voice Control English (UK))
- adaptation channel 133 (Bluetooth), 1-ON, tested OK
- Adv. measuring blocks, all looks fine

Control Head adaption channel 12, Value of 2 is correct from what I have found looking online for the Bluetooth as well as the phone base plate (AKA phone prep). You could try a value to 3 which is for telematics

At least that's OK. Will call Chris later on to see what he thinks about all this situation.
Can you spot anything guys?? Could you post your codings and state if you have a Voice Control or not. Could you post your advanced measuring blocks as well for 67-VC & 77-Tel, IF YOU CAN of course.

PsYcHe 18th February 2014 01:14 PM

The option 2 is correct..Turn off the voice control option and see what it does.

Post a full auto Scan from VCDS

here's my latest one for you to browse through, Spec wise i think we are pretty similar,

I have voice control, bluetooth and mobile cradle under armrest.

Thank you Del +++ +++ +++

Quick update, I missed another fault which I just saw.
See below.

Let me put the dinner on and I will do a fresh Auto-Scan so it's all up to date.

I looked at auto scan in detail just now and this is how I fell right now :eek2::eek3:

Previously I was jumping straight to the modules I was interested in and not paying attention to other modules. I will post auto scan again in the new thread to ask for advice because I need to get to the bottom of all the faults.

So, see attached Auto-Scan done 20min ago
It says that there is no signal/communication (19 - Can Gateway) with the phone/bluetooth module (R38) which I just installed and which is working other than people can't hear me and I can't use Voice Control anymore ???

Previously, 77 Telephone was unable to reach at all after failing/losing driver during the MMI update.

PsYcHe 18th February 2014 07:14 PM

The phone module/CAN error is old, so could do with clearing down, and most of the others are nothing to really worry about, clear them and see if they come back.

Delboy 18th February 2014 07:21 PM

Was going to say exactly the same, most faults are nuisance or not relevant, clear your dtc's then a quick run round the block and rescan posting your results.

No sleep for you mate, get to it chop chop, waiting for results...........

Hi PsYcHe, Del
This is the scan after clearing them all on Sunday. There is few I'm worried about, but not sure if I shall post the separately or in just one thread so every kind person can share some light on it.

I need to get to the bottom of that Mic issue. Looks like I've got 3 mics because of the factory fitted voice control and phone, and all of them show value 0 in advanced measuring blocks.

GO TO Page 2 of this thread where I posted more info earlier on during the day

Thank you once again guys

Look at this

Scan Before clearing all DTCs and After (Sunday 16/02/2014)
New Telephone module and Airbag wasn't fitted/fixed yet at that point

M-A8 18th February 2014 07:39 PM

I'm going to do AS again, will clear the DTCs, will take it for a spin around car park and do AS again.
I'll be back in 15-20min +++

Done, see attached

So, MIC still not working same as Voice Control :angry4:

Delboy 18th February 2014 08:11 PM

Doesn't read so bad now does it, ok what pr code do you have for your telephone in the car? mines 9zf

Delboy 18th February 2014 08:18 PM

Interestingly I looked at my coding for (77) and its different to yours mine is 0010900 which decodes as follows

00?0xx0: MMI System
1 = MMI/Sound System High

00x0?x0: Installation List
9 = Vehicle with MOST-Databus

00x0x?0: Voice Control Language
0 = Voice Control OFF

Now Voice control off has me asking what does that refer too as my car has the speech crap where you talk to it likr call so and so or navigation etc etc and it all works with that coding.

Either its a typo on ross tech or it is referring to something else.

M-A8 18th February 2014 08:28 PM

That is weird
I was trying with VC off 0 and VC on 2, it won't work at all where it used to work before MMI update and loosing 77 completely.

I looked at mine PR sticker and after decoding all PR codes non of them relates to Phone.
I assume you have your PR code from the Audi's print out ??

I attached the picture of the replacement module I installed yesterday.
A copy of the one I f***ed (2nd picture)

BUT as mentioned before, the SW in VCDS is shown as bla bla bla M where sticker says SW bla bla bla F, which is what I had before messing it all up

Delboy 18th February 2014 08:33 PM

So have you tried the same coding as mine, do you want me to go check the adaptation values?

PsYcHe 18th February 2014 08:40 PM

The more I think about it, that's the option I messed up that stopped the mic from working.

M-A8 18th February 2014 08:49 PM

Yes please +++
I've tried both coding, 0 and 2, VC on and off, NOTHING

PsYcHe, do you mean Tel -> Setup -> Settings -> Additional settings or something like that -> Mic ON and Mic OFF ???

I tried with Mic on and Mic off, nothing.

Why VC is not working, this bothers me a lot as it seems the phone's mic issue is related to VC not working any more

Delboy 18th February 2014 08:56 PM

What do you want me to check in particular?

M-A8 18th February 2014 09:04 PM

Could you go to page 2 and do same measures as per picture 1, 2 and last please +++

Sorry chaps for late replies, I was putting little one a sleep and million other things, but now I'm stuck to the desk

M-A8 18th February 2014 09:07 PM

2 is Voice Control main screen but by the look of your AS there is no coding as well same as on mine so forget 2, just adv mess for tel and VC please

Sorry went out to investigate before your replied.

But heres what i got

Module 7 ch12 adaptation value 2

module 77 adaptation ch 133 value 1
ch 134 value 0

M-A8 18th February 2014 09:42 PM

I will get insane in a minute :angry4:

I've got same values !!!
Everything seems to be in order other than my adv mess for voice control, mic 1 2 and 3

Now I'm just waiting for Mrs to be back home so I can test it again after clearing DTC from 19 CAN Gateway

WTF is wrong with it ????
