Distillery Visit - Annual Meet 2014 - 'The Eightsome Reel'

Any visit to Scotland would not be the same without a visit to a Distillery. So, as part of the fun packed day we are organising, we are going to Oban Distillery. This will be in the middle of the road trip during a midday break in Oban. If you don't wish to do a tour of the distillery which is in the centre of town, you - or your better half - can look around the delights of Oban. In order to set up the tour, we have to provide numbers and payment up front.

The tour is 1 hour in duration and costs £7.50 per adult (no concessions for olde f@rts!!) and £3.75 child. The tour includes a tasting. (For those who want to keep it for later because they are driving, see Conan about rum issue, smuggling it past the jaunty, sippers, gulpers and "hands to bathe" - Naval jargon pre 1971) . The entry fee includes a £3 discount voucher off a full bottle in the shop.

So, firstly, I need to know who is interested and, secondly, extract an upfront payment (sorry). We need to do this as early as possible to get the tour timings we need, so could I ask those going to add their names below. As I am off abroad for a few weeks at the end of the month, The Laird has offered to act as treasurer. Details of how to make payment will follow shortly.

Wasn't there an age limit, David (lower, not upper!) and what's the definition of 'child'?

David's8 19th February 2014 01:22 PM

You're right Jim. A child is from 8-17yrs and an adult over 18.

Dezzy 19th February 2014 02:05 PM

I'm owed a few sippers for sure and probably a couple of gulpers, hopefully no hands to bathe, but was thinking of bringing the boat with me as 525 miles each way is a long way for a day so we're thinking of making a few days of it. Oh and i'll leave it to you professionals for smuggling past the jaunty and meet you in the carpark +++

You missed 'Sandy Bottoms' and 'Touch my Tot and you'll never touch anything again'!

Me + 1 please.

I also think a distillery visit in an 8 is cruel. I want to drive and I want to 'properly' taste the Water of Life!

We planned ahead when we visited the Oban distillery a while back. ;)

Parked near the harbour, did the visit, had a look round town, had a meal, drove a few yards onto the ferry to Mull and straight to our hotel just up the road from Craignure.

Not my favourite Whisky if I'm honest, but I don't say no if offered. :o

Me too. I prefer the island whiskys from Islay and Talisker with a more peaty flavour. I do like Edradour which is sooo Toffee-ish. or just about anything really! I do like The Laird's from his cupboard in particular! +++ (He is a generous man. +++)

….and given that it sounds like a few us have our "personal collection" of malts, I (for one…) could easily be persuaded to bring a few favourite bottles for a follow-up tasting back at base camp - when we don't need to worry about driving. What do others think?

Dezzy 20th February 2014 08:37 AM

The only collection i have is of empty bottles :o
I do like a drop of Old Pulteney but i'm expecting to be able to buy it cheap up there say 5 notes a bottle

Architex_mA8tey 20th February 2014 08:57 AM

my favourite whisky is the one bought for me by someone else!! :p
sounds like a good plan Stephen +++

:D. This might need Jim/Brian/David/the organising clan to clear this with the Tyndrum Inn, but I'm sure they'd be accommodating...+++

It had crossed my mind when you first mentioned it - and also that the Tyndrum Inn might like to help with the tasting too. (Its worth asking!).

But are you coming on the distillery visit?? (you ask a question and get a response about something entirely different! ;) )

Well, unfortunately whilst you and mrs Dezzy will get £3.00 off a bottle at the distillery the kids dont count! We did see a bottle there for £600 (yes, thats correct) so it'll be a bargain at £597! (only one voucher per bottle). +++

As I am now off for 8 weeks, The Laird is going to take over the distillery visit admin and, as we need to book our visit slots, we will need to get payments from you guys in order to make the booking. So he will, no doubt, be along later to give you a date to make payment by and the details of how to do it. +++

In the meantime, anyone else for the visit?

HPsauce 3rd March 2014 10:20 PM

Yes, if it's not too late me and SWMBO - see: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...9591#post69591

Distillery Visit booking: closing this week

1 Attachment(s)
Guys

To make sure we get the slots we need for the distillery tour, I have to book them and pay for them in advance. :(

So, here's a few days notice that I will be making the call on Monday next week, paying on my flexible friend and then chasing those that have 'signed up' for monies.

I just wanted to make sure that everyone who wants to do the tour has let me or David know. I've attached the current list so you can check.

Oh, it's so exciting! Can't wait for June! :D

Architex_mA8tey 15th April 2014 09:04 AM

PM me your bank details Jim and I will do a transfer straight away thanks +++

The_Laird 15th April 2014 09:19 AM

Neil

I'll do that to everyone once it's booked. The credit card willgive me a month's grace, so no rush

Just one grown-up?

As to the whisky tasting, we did talk about this but thought the Tyndrum Inn might be a bit miffed if we turn up with our own booze. We'll ask when we go next
