Wheels look great - tyres may be a little low profile? That and/or a small drop?

HPsauce 22nd February 2014 07:30 PM

Not an S8? So maybe rides higher? Tyres look quite thin to me as well, what size are they?

(245/45R18 equates to 245/40R19)

nickid 22nd February 2014 07:31 PM

i have the sport suspension already but want to upgrade it all.
Not sure any lower with all the speed bumps around so bigger tyres will have to do

mannyo 22nd February 2014 07:34 PM

I agree, tyres look like the wrong profile. The correct size would fill the arches more, what size are they?

they are 235/35/19

HPsauce 22nd February 2014 07:44 PM

Nearly 5% too small, your speedo will probably be illegal.

nickid 22nd February 2014 07:45 PM

what size tyre will I need?

mannyo 22nd February 2014 08:33 PM

Hopefully someone will confirm, but correct size should be 245/40/19

Your current tyres have a sidewall of 3.2 inches, whereas the correct ones are 3.9 inches, almost 1.5 inches of sidewall missing.

HPsauce 22nd February 2014 09:05 PM

Bigger tyres will help with the speed bumps too. ;)

Did those wheels and tyres come from an A4 or similar? And what width are the rims?

Have a look at the inside of your fuel flap for the normal/correct selection of tyres and post it here.

But if they're too small, with smaller circumference wont the speedo read optimistic.... I thought it was only illegal if pessimistic ?

HPsauce 22nd February 2014 09:07 PM

Possibly, but I thought it had to be within 10% either way anyway. Could be wrong.
Most overread anyway, so that will show a much higher speed than reality.

nickid 22nd February 2014 09:26 PM

will try and get the right tyres. the wheels were on a passat

mannyo 23rd February 2014 07:28 AM

From a Passat, definitely the wrong size.

nickid 23rd February 2014 10:15 AM

Ye the boy got them from a audi and changed the tyres to fit his passat

Bandycoot 23rd February 2014 04:18 PM

I've 19 inch rims on my S8. I was running 255/40 but last week I fitted 255/35. I couldn't get the tyres I wanted in 40 series. The difference I've noted is the acceleration is better due to the smaller rolling radius. The top speed will be down but that's not an issue as I never see it. The speedo will be out, reading 70 but actual speed 67. The odometer will be out as well. This difference is not too much of an issue but I am trying to see if I can recalibrate the speedo using VCDS to take into account the new tyre size.

I'm running 255/40/19 (I think :o) on the same wheels. I'll check when I get the car back +++

You bought the right wheels. Nothing better +++

nickid 23rd February 2014 07:27 PM

I do like the blue. is that original?

Architex_mA8tey 23rd February 2014 07:50 PM

Nogaro (or "Noggy") Blue is even better in the flesh than in that photo, although it is looking mighty shiny there Steve! By the way, I've re-found that other Noggy Blue one I saw in Swindon a while ago - it's owned by a garage owner but has had a few gearbox issues, I will try and get him onto the forum and see if we can help him resolve them, oh and get some pics of it! +++
