My Rover P5B Coupe must go :(

Oh well,
Its time to say goodbye to my old (1968) P5B Rover Coupe....

I bought it for myself as a late 18th birthday present..... I'm 52 today...

She needs quite a lot of attention and TLC, but is an extremely interesting (standard looking) vehicle, as she has a quite carefully & well modified engine, though as it has been standing a while, would obviously require attention.

I'm keeping her at my parent's place in the Essex area ....

So if anybody here is interested, by all means feel to PM me and we'll take it from there....

Many thanks,

Richard...

Oh man, that's gotta hurt!

Good luck with the sale, though - they're lovely old things...

Coincidentally I sold my 68 coupe not that long ago. Good luck with the sale.
I assume you have listed it on the Owners Club site. Mine sold before the advert went up through word of mouth.

It does hurt ....

But she deserves to go to someone who can give the (very quick, as its not much slower to the ton than my '8') old girl the love and attention she needs and deserves to be on the road for another 46 years....

Since my injury, I am no longer capable of doing the necessary work, or affording it under my recent changes in circumstance...

Wow! That must be hard to let go of - they are really beautiful, classy cars, one of my favourite British cars. I'm sure there will be lots of interest for such a classic.

Yes, it was a hard decision to make....

But I've now had an offer of £500, so I think I may accept it....

Times change and sometimes we have to move on....

mannyo 6th April 2014 04:58 PM

£500 is that all, there are two on ebay now and the cheapest is 4K. The P5B saloon seems to make a lot more than that.

Night Train 6th April 2014 06:23 PM

My Coupe is in need of a restore though, hence the reason I am open to offers on it :(

I'll still miss the old girl though ....

mannyo 6th April 2014 06:40 PM

Trouble is would it be restored, for £500 it may well end up being recycled for parts and that would be a shame.

tintin 6th April 2014 06:41 PM

How much? (or rather, how little…)

I too am pretty shocked at the fact that you've only been offered £500, which sounds waaaay too low, even if it's in need of restoration, and I would've though the Coupe would've been worth more than the saloon:Confused:. What degree of restoration does it need?

Night Train 6th April 2014 07:04 PM

The offer is a blind one from a P5B club area rep.

There were only 18,536 P5B (V8) saloons & Coupes built (from memory) about 1 in 4 being a Coupe.

The car is all there, but has been standing for a few years now, so is a little tatty.
I don't see it very often now, as its at my parents place in Essex, The lower A-post (O/S) needs repair (I have the part)... I would reckon that the sills need work (as they did even when these cars were only a couple of years old)
The rear bumper & valance need attention as it was rear ended.

The D-posts (arch area) almost invariably need doing on these vehicles too.

The interior was still reasonable when I last looked, there's quite a few spares too.

I know the Holley & manifold would probably raise most of that offer on their own, but my dad could use the space, and I could use the cash at the moment.
The engine is fully balanced and has had a hell of a lot of specialist performance work done on it during a full rebuild (for example the great Spike Anderson of Samuri racing Datsun 240 & 260z fame did the head work for me). I used to be able to balance a pound coin (on edge of course) on a rocker cover whilst it was idling thanks to an excellent build. (and capable of 7000 rpm instead of 5250)
The 30-100 time of the Rover compared to my S8 in my opinion is too close to call, in fact the Coupe felt more responsive and 'brutal'...

I bought her in 1981, will be very sad to see her go, but needs must when the devil drives you.....

Hope that helps

And besides.....

I'm not greedy...
The old girl needs TLC and a loving home that I can't give her any more due to finances and disability...

So if anyone's interested ... feel free to PM me for my No. and have a chat...
I've got until the 24-25th of this month... as the interested party won't be looking at it until the end of the month (I'll be abroad with the fiancée on the 25th)

regards

Richard....
