smoke on kick down

Have recently noticed that i get a small cloud of smoke from the exhausts when i either drive away from a standing start pretty sharpish or speed up very quickly on the motorway, not sure what colour it is but is dark in colour.

doesnt happen at all under normal load , also doesnt happen if i rev the engine standing still

whats the likely issues?

Is it TDI? Does it have DPFs?

limoncello 28th March 2014 09:27 AM

its a TDI 3.0 whats a DPF?

limoncello 28th March 2014 09:29 AM

oh the particulate filter, i have no idea, how would i know if it does or not?

snapdragon 28th March 2014 09:44 AM

It would have a sticker under the bonnet.
If you open the bonnet, there should be several stickers near the wipers on the painted underside of the bonnet. One is about the Webasto if you have that fitted, one is about emissions, if you have DPF, it will say something like Euro5+DPF and the other is for the refrigerant for the climate control - R134a.

If you don't have DPF, it's nothing to worry about as the cars get older.

It'll say 'EU4+DPF' or similar on the audi sticker on the front cross member.

Some soot from a diesel on giving it welly is pretty normal.
