Boot Storage Idea

In my A4 I use to carry a selection of tools, blankets, spare clothes, first aid kits, spare bulbs and a night light.

Half the that kit is not going in the 8 but the rest of it (blankes, clothes, first aid kit and such) I would like to put in.
I can't make a false floor in the 8 like I did in the A4 so I'm trawling ebay for secure and tidy boot organisers.

I'm debating this one.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121294017774

But with it being a bit hole in the middle and no dividers I'm not that keen on it.

Does anyone use any boot storage bags or anything?

HPsauce 10th April 2014 11:02 AM

That looks fairly small, only 50cm wide.
I use the side spaces in my D2 boot having acquired a full panel for the right side now. Symmetrical, I don't have the "TV bulge" on the left.

Behind those panels I have a fair bit of space:
Left, I've dropped the CD changer below the floor (no Bose) and made a false floor held by Velcro so have a big space above for motley stuff such as spare bulbs, deicer, electric air pump etc. etc.
Right, I have a 9-litre (2-gallon) metal petrol can for emergencies. It's empty by the way. There's also room for a few cloths and stuff as well.

I also have some heavier stuff like a battery charger, jump leads etc. in the spare wheel centre. The ski hatch "giant condom" is also down there somewhere.

ScottD3 10th April 2014 11:35 AM

Sounds like you got a lot more side space that I have in the D3.
I got a little basket area on the left (needs a new netting) and the battery on the right.
can't do anything with them.

The spare wheel is empty at the moment, waiting on the twobar storage to turn and I might be able to get a few things in there but then that's it.

I got the area behind where the netting goes that I'd like to put something in there.

This one looks ok as well.

I've also got the "economy" version of that for various rubbish that isn't always needed in the car (cleaning materials for example), as follows:
One Tesco "Big Green Bag", containing one (empty) Virgin Wines 12-bottle wine carton with the top folded in.
If you get the right bag and carton it's a strong snug fit and can be carried in one hand. +++

snapdragon 10th April 2014 02:07 PM

For all my oddments, I have a grey cabin luggage case in mine that I claimed on my expenses for - I am not an MP though.
Cheaper version of something like this...

ScottD3 11th April 2014 09:16 AM

That's way too much to just shove in the boot. lol

I just ordered one of the ebay ones.

tintin 13th April 2014 01:38 PM

Good spot, I've done the same - though I also like the Tesco Big Green Bag and Virgin wine box idea, as more of a "behind the passenger front seat" idea….

ScottD3 17th April 2014 10:03 AM

My Dunlop boot storage bag turned up today, the day I cycled in to work and I don't know how to get it home. lol

But here's the pics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ps1vrbwocs.jpg

2 litres bottle of Vimto for size.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psgawcq2ib.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psfzepcepe.jpg

It seems ok. should do the job to put in some cleaning bits, basic emergency tools and such.

ScottD3 22nd April 2014 09:52 AM

I drove in today and picked up my storage box.

One slight issue with it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psydyrjcv4.jpg

Its about an inch off the top of the boot. so I got to pull it out every time to get stuff out of it.
its not really an issue but a slight oversight on my part.

I also fitted an umbrella holder.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psiimlshof.jpg

Just need an umbrella.

Architex_mA8tey 22nd April 2014 02:29 PM

I use the fold down curry hooks either side on our D3's and point 2 umbrellas into each corner of the boot and the curry hook holds the handle op and presents it to you! +++

Lee S 22nd April 2014 06:40 PM

Isn't the fold down flappy thing on the bootlid liner for holding umbrellas?

EDIT: Ahhh... sorry... Just noticed that it is an optional extra. Thought it was standard.

ScottD3 23rd April 2014 07:41 AM

What is this optional extra?

Pics, links?

Architex_mA8tey 23rd April 2014 07:46 AM

Isn't it just like a curry hook either side near the hinges under the shelf?

Lee S 23rd April 2014 01:34 PM

No.. It's like a drop down gripper. I will take a photo of mine later on. I'm not sure if it screws to the boot liner or if you need a different boot liner.

Photos of optional brolly holder. It has a quite strong spring inside it. Like a giant clothes peg really. But it seems part of the toolkit door.

HPsauce 23rd April 2014 09:43 PM

I think the Rolls-Royce version is better; one in every door.
http://robinscarblog.files.wordpress...la_in_door.jpg
The Laird would love it - the chauffeur comes round, opens the door and has the brolly immediately to hand.

or even, for a more reasonable price, the one on the Skoda Superb…:D. A damn fine car for very little money (and then one can afford the chauffeur…)

ScottD3 24th April 2014 07:49 AM

Lee, I like that. Any part numbers or anything on it?

Don't forget the passat. It has the same system as the Skoda.
I do wonder how they cope with drying a used umbrella.

LOL!

But my chauffeur has his own place for the brolly (can make the brolly a bit smelly though!) :tuttut:

I expect the Rolls has a humidity sensor and drying function built in to the storage slot. ;)

Not that I can see Scott. I will have a closer look later on though.

ainarssems 24th April 2014 03:31 PM

It's in accessories in ETKA part number MKA800001, for Skoda umbrella that is.

Delboy 24th April 2014 05:38 PM

i'll be having one of those too

HPsauce 24th April 2014 05:57 PM

I've got one of those big fitted plastic boot liners, the big umbrella just slides down one side under the lip, tip forwards - secure and easy to reach.

M-A8 25th April 2014 09:16 AM

I like the Dunlop idea, but it takes way to much space for me.
I will get some pictures over the weekend to show you my boot storage idea ;)

Delboy 6th May 2014 12:54 PM

Part number for umbrella holder is 4E0860264 list price is 14.68 inc vat

Will be ordering one today as I hate the brolly just rolling around in the car.

Thank's Delboy.

What do you guys use for carpet protection in the boot?
I've found plastic/rubber ones on ebay that looks alright but I want to make sure.

Delboy 6th May 2014 01:24 PM

Audi make a boot liner Part number 4E0061160 but the pics crap so who knows what its like, says 50mm so guess its like a tray and it is A8 specific

ScottD3 6th May 2014 01:36 PM

The pics on google seem a bit poor and missleading.

they range from the sort I'm looking for, full floor covering with a nice lip to something that's flat or only fits the lower sunken section.

Ebaying that part number comes up with this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130837614994

This is what I'm after.

Just had a look in etka again, there is a better picture and its the one your looking for and is 43 quid.

Thanks thats more money i'll be spending today...

BTW you will need three of these for the umbrella grip "N 91090701"

ScottD3 6th May 2014 01:55 PM

Thanks.

It will go on the list with new footwell light, number plate lights, boot floor securing bolts, coolant pipe, clips and bolt cap for the boot hinge. lol

I've got the boot liner too, but I wouldn't get too excited as it is made of what appears to be some sort of styrene foam. Easily torn/nicked but very light and easy to fit and remove. Quite water resistant too if you don't need to cut out the holes for the cargo net hook loops....

audifin 6th May 2014 07:12 PM

I have this eBay one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A8-SA...item3a887ccb08, it is very good. (scroll down for the picture of the A8 one) Totally watertight and it has a softer rubbery area in the middle to stop things sliding around.

Sir WIll 6th May 2014 07:22 PM

I bought one of these for the old girl:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165665

http://static.autoexpress.co.uk/site...?itok=k7z_xReE

£19 in Halfords and fits perfectly into the back section of the boot in the D3.

OK OK, uno momento ;)

I forgot because when I originally replied to this thread I wasn't really serious about my ''storage idea'' as it kind of isn't, and I was going to post the pictures just for laugh.

I do like you ideas guys, don't take me wrong, I just always like to have a room for two adults in my boot, old ''tradition''

So, the ''idea'' then.

This is how my boot looks like on daily basis, like a unfurnished tiny studio flat for two ;)

chucklestinlegs 6th May 2014 07:44 PM

Cant believe uv got all that in the tyre well, brilliant +++

PsYcHe 6th May 2014 08:00 PM

Thought I was doing well just jamming my little tyre compressor in :) Was expecting to see no spare wheel.

Architex_mA8tey 6th May 2014 09:09 PM

Yes but if he needs to change the spare wheel onto the car it takes another hour! Hehe +++

HPsauce 6th May 2014 09:16 PM

I've got similar plus a mains battery charger, 2-gallon petrol can, a set of jump leads and the "elephant condom" from the ski hatch. Admittedly in a D2 with 2 side panels in the boot space, but the boot itself is empty apart from an umbrella.
No umbrella holder option on a D2. :-(
