Interesting finds
I'm not sure what to call this but that title will do.
I was driving down to Lands end the other night and noticed the brake like coming on. after several more miles I worked out that the CC is breaking for me. If you go 5mph over the set speed it will break for you. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed little bits from the 8 that you've not noticed in the manual or such, |
I remember noticing that when I had a loan D3 4.0TDi from Audi while my old S8 was off the road for an "extended period".
There's also, I think on both D2 and D3 a feature of the auto box that it drops a gear to give engine braking downhill. Not sure exactly what logic triggers it, I think basically braking but road speed increases. |
My CC allows me to go even 50mph over the set limit
|
mine brakes.
I thought i had broken sensor or switch or something at first. then found out its breaking. I feel sorry for the people behind my when I engage my CC at 50 when I went past them at 70 thought. |
Do you mean it brakes when it speeds up because the road is downhill or when supplementing the throttle yourself?
It is an angle sensor that downshifts at the start of hills or when descending, it also does something with the EPB release on a hill too. This can also stop you retracting the pistons on the rear brakes to change the pads as I found out when on axle stands on my sloping driveway. It said "conditions not met" or suchlike in VCDS, took a while to figure out. |
Set CC for xxmph and travel on your way.
Your road starts a decent and you speed picks up and starts going over your set speed. 5mph or more over your set speed and the car will put the brakes on for you. I was traveling through Bristol and went down a steep road near the Clifton Suspension bridge. I set the CC for 25mph and let it do its own thing as a test. It sat between 25 and 30 all the way down the hill without me having to touch anything. |

No it wont but I do wonder if you've finished booting up to a ton would it then put the brakes on to slow you down?

I feel in mine like it applies the brakes. If i go from 60 say to 80 then let off CC set at the 60 it will slow down quicker than coasting / just letting off the throttle - feels like its braking. Very noticeable if you hold the stick down and it drops 5 mph each second....

Interesting if my doesnt brake and all other do... |
Is it braking by engine or actually uses brakes? If it does use brakes I would expect brake lights to come up as well to warn the cars behind.
|
Thats what I mean, my brakes in this scenario dont come on, at that speed engines slows the car fairly quickly from 80 to 60
|
When I've done it and I've been using it a lot recently, the brake lights come on.
I can see the 3rd brake light on in my rear window cause of the tints. You can also feel it on the brake peddle cause its a little harder than normal. |
The D3 will infact apply up to 15% braking force when using the cc standard cc not acc.
If you set it to 40mph and theres a slight incline both signals from the g meter and accelerometer and level sensors will then adjust the cars speed by using both the gears with downshifts and also the brakes and you will see your rear centre brake light up at night as it dose so fully automated This is standard on all A8 D3 with Cruise Control :) |
