One More For The Road…takers please...

Jim, David, and I have been discussing holding a final "One More For The Road" slot back at the Tyndrum Inn on Saturday evening, after dinner. This would be in aid of the same prostate cancer charity already mentioned on the forum, and will be run along the theme of a whisky tasting - based on the fact that the actual amount of tasting on the distillery visit earlier might be limited by the need to drive straight on immediately afterwards.. ;)

The exact format of this tasting session is a bit flexible, but will be based around the following elements: for a small donation (say, £5) to the prostate charity, forum attendees - over 18! - will be able to taste up a number of malts from range of whiskies, and there will also be a prize bottle of malt (Ardbeg, 75cl) on offer too.

Jim has kindly offered to donate some malts from his prize collection, and I'll be bringing a number of mine too, so this is likely to include, as a minimum, the following:

Scapa, Laphroaig, Macallan, Arran, Talisker, Bruichladdich, Glendronach, Smith's Glenlivet, and Aberlour Glenlivet.

In order to plan a bit of the detail (no. of shot glasses, etc), it would be helpful to get a rough idea of who's interested in this, so could those who are please reply to this thread.

Oh, and if anyone has their own neglected/much-loved/half empty bottle of their own malt that they'd like to add to the "Forum Collection" then let me know..+++

Slainte!

Stephen

Count me in! +++

Sorry, count me out

1. I don't like whisky :eek:

2. Will be driving back to our B&B afterwards anyway

Count me in, the only problem I have is contributing constructively to the collection.

Anticipating our planned visit to Islay my stocks are now fairly depleted and the two fine whiskies I have "in reserve" I hope you'll understand I'm rather reluctant to bring along - Laphproaig 18yo and Octomore 06.1.

I might have a bit of Jura and a variety of Bruichladdich (Islay Barley 2006) though.

We also have some House of Commons Number 1 12yo, though that is of course not a single malt.

I may be in.. Campsite is only a small stagger away and the missus can drive us home on Sunday :)

I do not have any to offer but always up for tasting. +++

I just hope it's not the same with whiskey as wine because I find the cheaper the wine the better taste.

1. That just means you've not tried the "right" one yet...;)

That's fine, I'm keeping back some of my "finer" ones, and I'm sure Jim will do the same with some of the Laird's Collection, and I don't think we'll be too elitist about it - I might also bring some Irish and a very nice American Bourbon for comparison purposes. That's part of the beauty of having a big car with a big boot..+++

Not sure it's the same with whisky. Certainly a malt whisky - almost any of them - is a very different drink from a (cheaper) blended one. Chacun a son gout, as they say….

You can always mix cheap whisky with Buckie. ;)
(then use it to clean the drains.........)

I'll donate but won't drink even if I love whisky, I'll still have to drive back to the camp site afterwards...unless I can leave car at the campsite and have someone who actually stays at the camp to drive me back, then I will donate 20quid and will take 4 shots of each whisky :D

I am staying at campsite and it's only like 200 yards away so I plan on walking, unless you would be planning on tasting to the level that you cannot walk.

See picture below - about 100m as crow flies or 200m walking on the road

Huh, brilliant +++
I can walk 200m even with eyes closed as long there is someone walking ahead of me and says something every minute or so :D

Cheers Pal +++
Appreciated

All you will have to do is say some random words every 60sec and I will follow the sound with closed eyes, no need to drag me, hug and drag, push or roll ;)

I'm in. And so's the boss.
She got scary when I suggested bringing her inherited bottle of a somewhat rare, weird blend of malts. It's surprisingly good, but I'm afraid you'll just have to take my word for that :D
I too was holding off re-stocking until the meet, but I'll see if I can get to the shops before departure.

Did I? :D

I'm from Yorkshire stock, remember. Had to look up 'donate' - what a strange concept! :rolleyes:

I'm a possible player, i'd like to sample a few anyway. All depends on times and how tired the kids are. I have a bottle of Old Poultney i'll bring with me.
