A8 Pub

With all the banter that happens in threads, I thought it might be nice to have one thread for banter and other random items.

Thought the title might sum up the general idea.

See what happens. :)

Afternoon and welcome to the pub.
Flap caps, pipes, sandals with socks are all welcome.

How many of you are going to GTI International this year?

Dave McB 4th June 2014 10:39 PM

Well tonight I spent the main part of the evening dragging the remainders of a shell of a 1972 beetle from a garage on to a recovery truck, from Bathgate to Airdrie and back off and into a garage.

And it rained
Lots

And there was in front axle on the beetle.

Anyone have a better evening?+++

Delboy 5th June 2014 12:32 AM

I had a 12hr shift trying to fault find problems with a ROV survey junction box.

Not a great day TBH as the ship was waiting to sail and couldn't until we got the offending box working as it was critical to the job.

Never pleasant when everyone breathing down your neck asking is it working yet, were waiting on you.

Todays going much better though, getting paid to surf the net and type drivel on here ;)

ScottD3 5th June 2014 06:35 AM

Morning lads,

I sat on the Xbox last night till about 2200 then collected the wife to be from work.
Today is my friday and the last day of being a unmarried man.

Looking forward to tomorrow.
Going to be interesting to see who don't turn up and waste my money cause of it.

Delboy, I know that feeling.
Sat in a store with the manager breathing down my neck wondering when his tills/server will be working so he can open the doors.
It goes a lot slower if you rush me or stand that close!!

ScottD3 5th June 2014 08:47 AM

I'm kind of looking forward to fitting a new kitchen and bathroom but not the painting or decorating side of it.

M-A8 5th June 2014 09:09 AM

Morning Gents :pint:

It's a lovely Pub I have to say, and people are very nice, I like it :pint:

About the decor stuff, thankfully I have finished recently full refurb of kitchen and bathroom, well, the 'guy' did it, but I had to wallpaper the kitchen and part bathroom , HATE WALLPAPERING :angry4:
:pint:

But, I've got a lounge to do very soon. Good points: Mrs does the wallpaper stripping, 'guy' will do the plaster, but bad point is that I will have to finish painting and all the decor, anyway :pint:

Last night I was tackling final jobs on the to do list before the trip to Annual Meet, fun fun fun, :pint:

But before that, I've had travel across London to a Pub, not A8 one unfortunately, but what a journey it was, no traffic like it was the end of the world i was the only and last standing man with A8 :D and all the traffic lights were green, I just could not believe, :pint:

Spent some time on selecting some new tunes for the long journey :pint:

Played with a Barbie set, no no, not what you thinking, with my daughter, :pint:

Watched a classic F1 Monaco GP before sleep, :pint:

Prayed about not falling a sleep behind the wheel on the way to SCO, I absolutely HATE motorways :angry4: , :pint:

I really hope my second driver will call me tonight with good news, :pint:

Fact: cousin asked me once to drive with him to Germany (2nd driver) and I said of course mate, you can count on me +++ Not funny but a fact, I was woken up behind the wheel on two out of two occasions, first after 45min andthen after an hour of driving. After second time he didn't want me to drive anymore  , :pint:
...yes, I almost craPPPed my pants, :pint:

SCOTT, CONGRATULATIONS !!!! :pint:
I'm sure you know what you doing !?!?!?! :D , :pint:
If you do, I wish you and your future wife all the very BEST, loooong and very happy marriage, lots of new A8s in the future, beautiful kids which would absolutely love Audi's, plenty of cash, happiness and bold patch and viagra free life in about 10-20 years :D, :pint:

To Scott and his Wife

ScottD3 5th June 2014 09:23 AM

Thanks lads +++

It be fine.
9 years together and only just getting married. I think we are pretty much settled in to who we are. I hope!!

Falling a sleep is not good mate.

I've done it a couple of times but I've learnt and I don't stay away for 24 hours and then try and do a 10 hour shift field engineer shift.
I fell asleep once and woke up in a field going side ways.
That was the point I decided to sort out my sleeping patterns and make sure I'm safe to drive. If not, I pull over for 20mins and either walk around, drink, eat or kip.

Drive safe dude.

Delboy 5th June 2014 01:00 PM

The man v's woman is entirely true, good luck Scott and congrats, i'm sure you will be fine, like you I lived with my missus for 10 years before getting married.

Think it makes more sense that way, no point spending all that money at the start only to find out you want to take her sea fishing and use her as bait.

briang9 5th June 2014 01:11 PM

Have a great day Scott, hope everything goes well+++

chucklestinlegs 5th June 2014 02:14 PM

Have a gr8 day Scott and remember n tell her how beautiful she looks +++

FIERY 5th June 2014 06:31 PM

ScottD3 5th June 2014 09:30 PM

Need a bike for London.
Sod driving.

London use to be part of my patch when I was service engineer and I refused to drive in.
I'd deliver parts to the bike engineers and that's it.
Hated it.

Thanks all. It will be fine I'm sure.
Just reading over my speech.
I hate speeches.

Have a good meet tomorrow all and drive safe.

Dave McB 5th June 2014 10:49 PM

Missing Wife

Some may have seen this but it did make me laugh:

A distraught husband phones the police to report that his wife is missing:

Husband: I lost my wife, she went shopping this morning & still has not reached home yet.
Inspector: What is her height?
Husband: Not sure - less than me?
Inspector: Build?
Husband: Not slim, can be healthy.
Inspector: Colour of eyes?
Husband: Never noticed.
Inspector: Colour of hair ?
Husband: Changes according to the season.
Inspector: What was she wearing?
Husband: jeans or maybe a dress..... I don't remember exactly.
Inspector: Was she going in a car???
Husband: yes.
Inspector: can you tell me the number, name & colour of the car ? . . . . . ..
Husband: Black Audi S8 D2 model with 4.2 litre V8 engine generating 360 horse power with an five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission with manual mode. Minor scratching and gravel rash on the bonnet and bumper. Its been fitted with LED sidelights and a bunch of extras such as rear blind, alcantara roof lining, full leather pack and is fitted with 19 inch diamond cut final edition 9 spoke alloy wheels which have just been re-furbed..... and then the husband started crying...

Inspector: Don't worry sir, we will find your car...

Superb+++

The_Laird 9th June 2014 12:06 PM

Why has he got 19" wheels on it?

Architex_mA8tey 9th June 2014 09:56 PM

because his wife scuffed the 20" ones and they are in for re-finishing of course :p

ScottD3 17th June 2014 08:04 AM

Morning all,

The little get together you all had on the 6th looked good.
I do like the roads and cinery in scotland, really need to go back again I think.

Some cracking pics and videos.

Who's going to put names above everyone's head in the group photo?

Delboy 2nd July 2014 12:51 PM

The sun is shining and the chopper to take me home is heading my way now, not long before I will be back in the warm embrace of my loved one, no doubt the wife will be pleased to see me too. ;)

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 07:04 AM

Morning all,

How was the chopper ride and did you have a warm embrace by the love ones?

As much as I like riding to work, the speed going down the hills, the buzz I get from cutting through traffic and the relaxing ferry ride where I watch the world go buy. Its all nice and all but by the time I get home I have no motivation to do anything apart from play the xbox.
I spend the 30 min trip sweating my nuts off, I get home smelling, wet, legs are aching and the last thing I want to do is housework, garage work, garden work or car work.
After my shower I sit there on the xbox wishing I did more with my life than sitting on the xbox, so I get up, put some outside clothes on and potter about in the garage/garden wondering why I did not start this when I got home I would have had loads more time complete what I'm doing.

Then I cycle home from work the next, remember why I don't do it and sit in front of the xbox.

I might buy a motorbike.

How is everyone?

Delboy 22nd July 2014 08:16 AM

Sounds like a motorbike would be good, but it's not going to keep you in shape, how about an electric bike to assist the uphill section on the way home.

The chopper ride was how they usually are, hot and uncomfortable and it's nearly time to go back again, the month has flown by :(

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 08:21 AM

That's it plus it will cost money.
Cycling is free.

You can buy conversion kits, was tempted but I'd use it all the time lol

Just a month off?
How long do you spend away?

Delboy 22nd July 2014 08:51 AM

I do month on month off normally, but on occasion I have done 8 week trips but try to avoid them where possible.

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 08:53 AM

Month on, month off don't seem to bad.
And a helicopter ride.
I'd love a go in a helicopter.

Norretal 22nd July 2014 08:59 AM

I have the choice of mountain bike, motorbike and car to get to work, I always choose the mountain bike, it's only in exceptional circumstances that I use any of the others (if I need to go somewhere after work or have an appointment during work time) The motorbike has been MOT'd and taxed recently with the intention of using it more and thus saving using the S8. That's the intention though I doubt it'll happen, 15,000 miles on it in 15 years is a bit shameful but I can't bear to get rid, I just know I'd regret it instantly.

On the subject of helicopter rides Del, I had my first ever one in New York last month, it was better than I expected somehow. Felt a bit vunerable and there was a fair bit of buffeting but on the whole it was enjoyable. Some great views of the city and it's sights made the whole thing worthwhile +++

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 09:12 AM

What bike you Norretal?

I'd love a heli ride.
I've tried a couple of times in work but always failed.
I'll keep trying. I might get one some day.

I've like another bike one day.

Norretal 22nd July 2014 10:33 AM

It's a Honda Blackbird CBR1100XX fella, bought it new in 1999 when I was single and daft. I'm still daft but have a wedding ring on my finger these days.

The helicopter ride was a worry because I'm not great with heights but I needn't have worried, it was fantastic and I'd definitely do it again +++

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 11:00 AM

I love the blackbird but much prefer the X11. Same engine but a naked version.

I remember coming back from the bike show at the NEC and fell a sleep on the back of one of them. lol

I'm not the best with height but never have an issue with climbing or flying. Its when I'm stood still not moving I get issues.

Some cracking views there.

Delboy 22nd July 2014 11:04 AM

Now a heli flight around New York would be more to my liking, however the reality for me is in a hot stuffy survival suit or what I call the body bag for 1-2 hours and the ever present worry of crashing into the north sea, which has happened far too often recently.

Nice bike BTW, I miss not having a motorbike, wouldn't mind the Ace cafe 904s thruxton or the new Norton Cafe racer.

Still fancy month on month off Scott Video

Norretal 22nd July 2014 11:13 AM

I love the bike but it really should go to someone who'll use it more than me. I'm a bit of a hoarder, which is why I still have my D2

I have a good friend who lives in Monifieth near Dundee, Del. He works five on five off as an HSE advisor in North Africa mainly, but is being spread further and is in Malta right now. Everyone I seem to meet through him either works offshore or overseas, he seems to have lost a few good friends over the last few years due to helicopter crashes.

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 11:39 AM

The crashing bit is a worry but I bet you're safer in your heli than I am riding to work?

The video kind of gets me excited (none sexual sort) for something.
When we was in scotland we took the ferry to Malliag when it was pretty rough.
Everyone else was inside and was the only ones sat on the top deck right at the front getting soaked loving every minute of it.
The ferry on the way back from france one was pretty bad, people could hardly walk around. I loved every minute of it.
That's kind of odd right?

Del, is that part of the Ton up club bikes?
I remember reading something about them. They was mental back then.

Nothing wrong with hoarding if you got the space.
If I had the space I would have kept my A4.

Delboy 22nd July 2014 11:43 AM

Africa Mmm shudder to think, been there a few times and cant say I'm all too fond of the place. Myself and three others ended up in a bit of a bother once in the Ivory Coast that ended up with us all being thrown into the back of a hilux and I found myself looking at the wrong end of an AK-47 that was being held by a African wearing a balaclava.

Turns out in the end that they were the police

Luckily for us it end up being an exercise of extortion and we left there with our behinds the way god intended.

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 11:46 AM

And people moan about England.

Delboy 22nd July 2014 12:00 PM

Haha Scott, if that kinda thing is enjoyable for you then perhaps a life on ocean waves would suit you.

Its not always bad weather and guns as you could imagine, and I must say I do love my job.

I had a great trip out in the Philippines last year, was an interesting trip just to get to the boat. If I get some time then I might upload a vid of the journey out there sometime.

The old school cafe racers were part of the ton up club but the bike I lust after is a new build.

ScottD3 22nd July 2014 12:07 PM

That looks very nice.

Old styling with modern tech?

I bet that's entertaining to ride.
