Aux Heater
I was playing about the engine bay with the bumper off trying to fix my AC (new post about that) and noticed this exhaust pipe looking pipe poking out from under the engine.
After some digging and removing of the air box (i recommend cleaning out the drain pipe from air box, mine was blocked) I noticed what I think is a Auxiliary heater. Had a look with VCDS and it connects to a Aux heater module. I'm now assuming I have a Aux heater. Having a quick look through the manual it talks about a MMI screen with Aux timers and remote. I don't have the remote or aux timer screen in the MMI. Reading this thread about his coding for when he fitted his, in tempted to give it ago but before I do I want to make sure I'm not imagining it all. Do I have a Aux heater and I should I have the option in the MMI for the aux heater? |
Id assume you have one, but probably not the version with the timer.

Went out with VCDS this morning to test my AC but ended up coding in the Aux timer on VCDS.

I can hear and smell the heater kicking in it. I think the air is getting warm but its hard to tell when its this warm. I need/want the remote now. |
Great feature in colder days. +++

Great stuff Scott +++
How did you do that??? Remote?? Is there a infrared receiver installed as standard or how would that work?? I've seen that on S-class years ago, where you could warm up the car (inside of course) via remote from home without having engine on and going outside, just standing by the window in close range to the car, thats exactly what this is, isn't it?? |
I think in this case it remotely starts the engine for how long you've set it for and therefore defrosts the windscreens and warms up the inside - nice feature! +++

You need the pump for it to run the water round properly. It doesnt run the fans, just makes sure the water is at a decent temp/thaws the block, etc.

Sorry bout the late reply M-A8.
In to HVAC and just add 2 to what ever coding you got. Mine was 49 on the end, so it went up to 52. Turn the ignition off and on and it's there. Sorted. The engine don't start. The little diesel burning under the air box fires up. You can hear it humming. That's for the Aux heat. It will warm up the coolant, pump it round the engine and heater matrix. It's not boiling hot like the engine does, but enough to melt ice and take the chill out of air on the cold mornings. I set the aux fan up to turn on for 45 minutes before I finished work and to run for 45 minutes. The cabin was cooler and it never took any bars from the battery monitor. Happy with this little mod. |
Sadly, if you have supplementary heater and activate parking heater all that happens is it overheats and locks out and then you have to unlock it in VCDS. The problem is some parts are missing, including V55 electric circulation pump and diverter valve* (optional)

Shame.
The Aux - Fan works well for cooling though. |

Will update you as soon is done...if it works with mine. Can't see why it wouldn't as the module I'm connecting to is Auto HVAC not HVAC, or all off them are called Auto HVAC. It's probably one of those function which is fitted as standard, but disabled if you don't pay for it as it's classified as extras  Any luck with finding a remote for it Scott?? |
...or or or, how about a GSM module which would allow you to do it all from your phone, how cool would that be :rockin:
|
Not very OEM though is it? :tuttut:
|
Ooooh, come ooooon. It's better than a remote, it would allow you to do it from bed and OEM not, hmmm?
As long it's not visible it's fine +++ PS, just posted something you may find interesting in your AC thread +++ |
reminds me of the old Clifford and Toad alarms where they had all this extra bits of kit you could plug.
|
|
Sourced from there and you may want to read it as it looks like you may need extra bits Scott.

That's for the remote start and such.
I'm not that bothered about that really. Reading that guide and what Snapdragon said, I'll need the recirculating pump to stop it from overheating. |
