Footrest/Dead Pedal

Has anyone ever changed the dead pedal for something a bit more sporty/grippy?

The chrome and rubber combo of the standard one in my Mk2 TT offered far more grip then the one in the A8 which is pretty much smooth.

I'm not really bothered about aesthetics of it or the pedals (thought the TT ones did look well), but I would prefer getting something with more grip.

Spray some of this on it?

Does the peddle covers from a RS6 fit the 8?
They got chrome and rubber rest, brake and throttle I think.

I had a quick look on ebay yesterday to see if any were of a similar shape, but got nowhere.

I'll have a look at an RS6 one and compare to mine.

I thought the plastic footrest looked a bit cr@p and got a local engineering firm to manufacture one in aluminium treadplate using a spare rest as a template. Unfortunately they only had standard aluminium checkerplate /treadplate which has approx 25mm "square" 5 bar checkers which is a bit industrial. Its ok but not really right. They had satin finish smooth plate but that would scratch badly after a while. Still looking for something whcih would match TT type pedal (which I haventgot yet either!)

Just need a sheet of steel/ally, cut some slots out of it and put rubber bits in them. Like all the others.

I had a mate who was going to make me one cause he makes them for the S3s but sadly he passed away so that's not going to happen any more.

Exactly. but its getting the right material cut and shaped and then getting the right rubber strips attached so that it looks good.

However, there is a possible solution in the offing......

Yeh, finding the rubber bits would be the problem!

What about a VW Phaeton one "modified"? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2006-Vo...-/161120189434

ScottD3 7th August 2014 09:44 AM

Something like this?

David's8 7th August 2014 09:50 AM

Seen all those but I wanted something that replaced the entire plastic piece. I removed the plastic bit which wraps around the carpeted piece and got the fabicators to produce that entire footrest which I then, having removed the plastic one completely, glued on instead. Fixing a ally plate to the existing footrest is not what I want.

LHD ones are all just a straight rectangular pedal, RHD ones are curved to sit against the transmission tunnel.

I'll see if I can find a picture of a RHD Phaeton one though.

ScottD3 7th August 2014 09:54 AM

David, I see what you mean now.

If you still got a plastic bit spare I can drop it off to my metal workers and see what sort of price that come up with?

The plastic spare has been sent away already to another forum member for just such a thing. Will keep the thread updated with any news +++

i think I might have a Phaeton footrest new in the box at my workshop I will check +++

Lyons 7th August 2014 02:51 PM

Ohh, let me know sure.

They certainly look the same as the A8 one.

Lyons 13th August 2014 08:35 AM

I ended up getting a full set of pedals from a Phaeton for good money, so will let you know if they fit if anyone is interested!

Does anyone know how the accelerator and brake pedals are removed?

ScottD3 13th August 2014 08:38 AM

I'll be interested in the results.

No idea how to remove the puddles.

PsYcHe 13th August 2014 09:22 AM

Pretty sure it's been done on here before.. Think you might be able to get away with just swapping the pads rather than the whole assembly.

Lyons 13th August 2014 09:39 AM

Flip, that's what I'm hoping- I've only bought the pads!!

snapdragon 13th August 2014 01:13 PM

You do have to modify them, but it has been done on US forums.

3D2 723 173A - Brake Pedal RHD
3D2 864 675 4P7 - Foot Bracket RHD

Phaeton brake pedal and TT accelerator pedal work in a D2, the footrest is a no-go.

Lyons 13th August 2014 02:24 PM

I saw that thread earlier. Both of those that fitted them were onto D2's though. Not sure if any modding is needed for a D3.

This is what I have currently fitted as a temporary solution. But as stated earlier its too industrial and clunky. One of the issues is that the radius of the plastic footrest (on the D2 at least) changes along the length but keeping to one radius doesnt give too bad a fit.
