Great MOD: Audi R8 oil cap for D2
5 Attachment(s)
I know, I know sometimes you're dreaming about Audi R8. Only sometimes though.
Well, now you can have genuine Audi R8 oil cap on D2 -- the best car Audi have manufactured. Ever. Pictures: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1410194762 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1410194762 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1410194762 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1410194762 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1410194847 Part number 420 103 485 B can be ordered from Audi or purchased here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161361956878 for £25 The part will need a very subtle modification so that the cap sits the right way around. Modification is very easy to do. The eBay seller can send you modified version if you only ask for it. They do it free of charge. New cap is also better functionally, as is sits a bit tighter. Perhaps only because it is new. |
I like….even though it's not D2 OEM….ordered.
|
Sergey, you are officially certifiable! +++
ummm .... i think I might want one too. PS. Have you been licking your engine bay clean again! |
Actually, didn't open my engine bay since I came from Scotland meet and changed oil immediately after it. Then was buried in some house projects, so car felt a bit lonely...
|
Gotta have one of them. Yes, I know I'm certifiable too! :D
Edit: ordered! |
Jim, +++
Make sure to message the eBay seller that you want the modified version. Otherwise the cap handle with the oiler pictogram will sit ~30 digress off the horizontal position. |

Only problem is by the time that happens I will be so old all I will be able to do is sit in a corner dribbling into my special blanket, and if still able to drive probably have a Honda:(
|
Not neccessarily, Brian. After all, David and I both have an S8 (and a special blanket!), even if I do drive like Captain Slow a lot of the time!
|
Great mod, I think it looks great, well done +++

Unfortunately, they don't always get it right :(
|
Bummer….but I'm sure you'll be letting them know ;). Postman Pat is waiting for me collect mine when I get back from Glasgow…hopefully it's right.
|
The right one should have handle aligned exactly with metal lungs at the bottom of the cap. Like on your old cap.
Modification is very easy. Just open the handle in two parts with a plastic wedge, like an old credit card or trim removal tool. |
But don't I then have to cut slots in it?
|
Yes, there are 4 slots to cut.
Opening is the most difficult part. Don't use metal tool to pry off the cap. Only use plastic, so there will be no scratches. After opening: With a pencil mark the bottom of the cap with 4 spots where the slots should be. Then transfer those 4 marks to the top of the cap. Then cut slots in the top of the cap with a thin file or with a Dremel tool. |

Brilliant and it looks absolutely amazing +++ Well done guys, really cool mod  |
They are nice the R8 caps.
I prefer the Porsche caps, no modding needed and a bit more subtle. :) |
Do you have a photo?
|
just google

I got the Porsche oil cap going spare cause it wont fit the TDI. The coolant cap fits 99% of all VAGs. |
|
cant see why not.
want mine to test it? |
Yes please!
|
PM me your name and address and I'll send it out.
|
Done - that's very kind of you!

Porsche cap fits fine - which do you prefer?
|
The Porsche one +++
|
Porsche cap sits as deep as original cap I assume. I love both.
R8 is a bit in your face, Porsche is more subtle. Will order that one too and will use depending on mood. P.S. My wife's got a whole crate of earrings. I'll have as many oil caps for my A8 +++ |

PPS - I misread your P.S (I just got up…) and thought it read:- "P.S. My wife's got a whole crate of earrings. I'll have many as oil caps for my A8" - Slightly different meaning...:o |
