They look like pludges connected to swirl flaps ?
Number 4 on the pic

notorious 25th October 2014 12:05 PM

Audi or TPS?

Delboy 25th October 2014 12:12 PM

If you don't want new try A8 parts 01462 783537

Borys 25th October 2014 12:23 PM

Thanx guys

HPsauce 25th October 2014 12:43 PM

Is it the bellows unit you want? As noted A8parts would probably have these if that's the problem.

The question is why? These aren't particularly noted for failing, more that the manifold flaps get jammed and/or the link arms break.

Borys 25th October 2014 01:45 PM

Links are broken off
Flaps are operating ok

HPsauce 25th October 2014 01:51 PM

You can buy the links from Gruvenparts, or is it what they connect to that is broken?

Borys 25th October 2014 03:29 PM

Link themselfs are broken, the ball type ends snapped

notorious 25th October 2014 08:22 PM

Gruvenparts from the US then.
But they break because manifolds get seized.
So before installing new links make sure to service manifolds.

daviesbike 25th October 2014 10:28 PM

Cable tie them for now they will restore power until your new ones arrive +++

Borys 27th October 2014 04:53 PM

Is this the same as from gruvenparts?
Asking as this one is from Czech, bit closer EU easier to ship I guess
Thanx

Goran 27th October 2014 05:41 PM

You can buy those links from UK eBay for less. I bought stainless steel ones from RS components and put them together myself. £10

I had to thread these because S8 arms are much shorter

Borys 27th October 2014 05:47 PM

RS that's an idea.
I use them every day and I didn't think about that
Thanx

M-A8 28th October 2014 08:38 AM

Bloody hell, that is a difference between Gruvenparts and RS, and the shipping time as well.
Post a link if you can Borys of the 2inch ones you will get from RS for future references inc part number or product code.
That is really cheap.

I've had gruvenparts ones fitted, but I got them off Neil who had a set laying around so shipping was 1st class +++

Borys 28th October 2014 12:31 PM

I got them in today but couldn't make it work
I do admire Goran's skills
I did trimm them to size tackering was my issue
Ordered gruvenpart ones

M-A8 28th October 2014 12:43 PM

They are hard to clip on.
How about the ones from Czech??

Borys 28th October 2014 12:58 PM

Czech to long I need 1" lenght

M-A8 28th October 2014 01:18 PM

Sh*t, sorry mate, but the gruvenparts are really good, I've got them and install was very easy as you can imagine. How about asking Goran for some help, he done it so it would be easier for him as he knows what to do

Goran 28th October 2014 02:10 PM

I'm very happy to help and even make them for you if you can send me the parts.
Was it tapping the thread that didn't work?
Was it for a S8 (you wouldn't need to shorten them much for a A8 you could probably use the existing thread).

The other thing that would be great is if we have someone on here who works in some king of casting industry. I have 1 spare plastic arm we just need lots of castings of it in aluminium or brass or some kind of automotive nylon plastic.

Borys 28th October 2014 06:54 PM

Hi Goran,
Yes tapping was a nightmare. My tools suck :-(
I've got an a8 and links are 1" - so needed to cut RS bits, there was not much room for tread, Literally I had maybe two lines left. Wanted to extend a bit further and disaster strike :-)

Goran 28th October 2014 09:39 PM

I thought A8 links were a lot longer, I didn't realise you would need to cut down the steel ball links. The Czech ebay picture seems to show them not cut down. Is it the 40valve engine?

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...1299429626.jpg

Another option may be one of these male threaded ones and one of the female threaded ones, then hopefully no threading needed just cut the threaded one down to size?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Track-Rod-...item4d256c42a8

There are even aluminium alloy ones which would be easier to tap if deeper threading was needed. I may actually go for some of these for my current car. The previous buyer got my fixed up S8.

HPsauce 29th October 2014 07:41 AM

There are 1" and 2" links, depending on the engine.
IIRC the S8 engines use 1", the rest 2" as the manifold is different.

M-A8 29th October 2014 08:17 AM

That's what I thought. 1" only on S8's so I don't understand why Borys is trying to fit short ones if 2" ones are needed. Lets better check this before he puts too short arms.

Borys, what's the engine on your car?? (W12??)

daviesbike 31st October 2014 06:03 AM

Just to clarify something.

All D3s have 1" non whatsoever are 2" arms the difference between 1" and 2" was d2 a8 and d2 s8

D3 3.7 and 4.2 are all 1" arms as is the S8 V10 +++

daviesbike 31st October 2014 06:12 AM

Strangely i have a contact in the casting world that would produce the arms in plastic or metal/ally but the minimum order is 500 of them ! And i was thinking about selling them but its costly

Borys 31st October 2014 06:43 AM

1" for sure, took original out, measured it before ordering
Thanx guys

WRONG!!!
Don't know about V10, but 3.7 and 4.2 are 2" Guy +++

daviesbike 31st October 2014 08:41 AM

I recently stripped a 3.7 to fix it and 2 4.2 and they were all 1"
Ma8 maybe some one fitted incorrect ones to your car before you bought it ?

Or the 3.7 i worked on was incorrect ...4.2 is definitely 1" 100%
3.7 now im not so sure

The S8 V10 is electronic the V8s are vac pods

No mate, 1" would not the reach the vac pod, plus Ollie on his 3.7 had 2" as well, so two cars with wrong parts? Don't think so
And if they would reach the vac pod then both flaps would stay half open at all times

Borys 31st October 2014 09:26 AM

I will say it again
I did remove the original linkage from the car, mesaured it and it is 1"
Both of them

Goran 31st October 2014 09:51 AM

Borys I didn't realise your car was a D3. According to VagCat this is the bellows and plastic arm part number 077198327A and yes it is the 1" arm.
This Polish site is selling replacements for around £14, but I think you can make them yourself using the male and female uk ebay ball links without having to tap the threads.

No one says you are wrong Borys.
All I was telling to Guy that I and Ollie we did measure ours and they are 2" not 1" +++

Borys 31st October 2014 10:59 AM

Anyways my car is not gonna be ready till next wensday
hopefully gruvenparts delivery will arrive
