MMI help pls....

Hi all.
Bought my D3 last week and today was my first proper journey in her (Just taxed today).
My question..
This is my 2nd D3, so I'd like to think I am fairly familiar with the MMI operating system, however....
When I selected 'CAR', then 'Systems', Audi parking system and interior lighting were not showing in the drop down list.
Also, the 'USER' that should be in the top left corner of the screen was not there either?
I don't think the car has been updated software wise, as there is no 3D option with the map. However, that doesn't explain the lack of previously mentioned items in the list? Unless I'm doing something wrong.
Any ideas?
How much (roughly) would a software update cost and is it a dealer only procedure?
Thanks

If you are missing 3d maps it sounds like you need a firmware update.

I did mine myself. Bought the discs for <£30 from eBay (part number 4E0 060 884 DK). It took the best part of two hours, IIRC. Pretty easy though, if very boring.

madcjd 1st November 2014 12:41 PM

Hi Greg.
I see what you're saying, but, it should still have the options there - surely?
How can they disappear?
I see someone has put an informative write up on installing the update CDs.
I will pursue this option soon.
This is my first drive in the car today and I didn't pick up on the MMI thing during the test drive. Nevermind.

Chris

I assume the parking sensors are working ok.

If the car does not have keyless ignition then there is no user menu, instead it uses a combination of the keys and the memory buttons in the fold out door storage.

There is a hidden menu where you can add and remove options from the car menu, however it is possible to break the MMI altogether if you select the wrong thing. From the car menu, press and hold car and setup at the same time and a menu should appear.

Do not select anything in the menu to do with bootloader, it will end in tears.

I used these iso files casually burned to CDs from here...

You need to register first nowadays and find some instructions on the web as there are mistakes that can be made..

3D maps is for the 3G MMI not the 2G right?

I got keyless and never seen that user option.

mannyo 1st November 2014 09:15 PM

2G MMI does 3D as well, mine running the latest firmware has it. 3D does not need the latest maps either, it works just the same on the 2003 disc as the 2009 one.

Maybe the user options only come up if you have the fingerprint reader, because the settings relate to registering fingers to store settings etc.

ScottD3 1st November 2014 09:26 PM

How do you get 3D?
I dont have it and I got the latest firmware I think.

Sorry if its a thread jack but I guess its going the right way.

Delboy 1st November 2014 11:51 PM

I am 2006/7 2g mmi and i have user menu, so i can add delete users etc

PsYcHe 2nd November 2014 11:14 AM

Pretty sure my current D3 doesn't have it as it has only the button start and not fingerprint, though the PF had it with fingerprint.

The 2D/3D view option is somewhere in the Nav/Setup options. The only grumble I have with it is that it doesn't show the street names in 3D, only 2D.

As above, USER option is available only in cars with finger print recognition

On my 06 2G MMI ver.5570 I have Audi parking system and interior lighting

3D maps very available from early years, but this option is available only in later versions of MMI
To switch to 3D press NAV and then SETUP button on the MMI console
You will see option of MAP TYPE

It would appear I have 21.2.0.
Time for a update I think.

Cheers Manny.
Yes - the car has fingerprint recognition and the parking sensors do work.
I'll give that hidden menu fix a try .....sometime soon.
Re the update discs for SW version 5570, someone has indicated the 3 discs are cheap as chips from Audi (makes a change)!
He reckoned less than a tenner?

PsYcHe 3rd November 2014 04:01 PM

If you can get a dealer to sell them to you, theyre cheap.. some dealers are funny about it.

Yep, the dealer wouldn't sell them to me. I had to get them from TPS. Ironically the dealer would also have got them from TPS!

Both items are update CD's. Cheap as chips!

madcjd 8th November 2014 08:03 PM

Thanks for the info!
I'll get on the case soon.
Don't understand why a dealer would be reluctant to sell the discs?

M-A8 9th November 2014 11:22 AM

Think about it this way.
They dont make any money from the sales of discs, and dealer is only after your money. So, not everyone is same and where one person will just turn around and continue to look for discs, the other guy may just can't be bothered or not be informed well about where else to get them from and may just go with dealer doing the update for a lot of money - dealer is happy at this point

snapdragon 9th November 2014 05:09 PM

It could also be a retail vs. trade thing.
Don't forget the EU block exemption rules, Audi can't withhold these discs from other traders.

Hi Matty.
Do you have to be 'trade' to buy from TPS?
I've just looked on their website and seen that Slough is my closest dealer. However, the website implies it's for trade only?

I'm not trade and I've used TPS a number of times. Usually the parts aren't in stock so they order it and then pay on the day they arrive to their shop / trade counter.

David's8 10th November 2014 01:06 PM

The Glasgow TPS seem happy to provide private individuals (its all money!) - the only stipulation is that you have to collect it.

ainarssems 10th November 2014 01:45 PM

Milton Keynes TPS will happily sell to public but you do not get any discounts if do not have trade account with them. This means most parts cost the same or very near as from dealers and I have even been quoted higher than dealer prices on some parts.

snapdragon 10th November 2014 07:20 PM

Ah, sometimes it says CASH SALE and sometimes if you're lucky, the name of some garage or taxi co. and then I must get the discount.
I must take the name on one of these old invoices' companies and name drop.
;)

Architex_mA8tey 10th November 2014 10:36 PM

I've just bought a new 020 size battery from TPS for £92 including vat for one of the D3's which was better than anyone else locally for a change, but we do get some trade discount from them +++

Hello again Matty.

Have just got onto TPS and ordered the pack of 3 CDs (4L0998961).
I supplied the other number too (S4E0906961H) - which isn't available in the UK, so they say?
What CD rom does that part num pertain to?
Thanks Chris

Hi Chris, the part number is 4E0906961H, ignore the S as it means superseded. You only need this CD if your MMI version is 1110 or lower.

Hope that helps.

madcjd 11th November 2014 07:27 PM

Thanks for clarifying that Matt.
I'll check my version number.
