Leather Care Recommendation
Hi,
As most of you know, I have a black Sports interior and although it was in fairly good nick, you could see that it had been used a fair bit and so i started searching for a product that would help combat this. I've used gliptone and liquid leather before and although they are good to keep an existing good set of leather great, they didn't necessarily revive it to the standard that i was hoping. I bought a leather renovation kit from Woolies Trim http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/images...large/1033.jpg The cleaning product is very very good - the best i've seen on the market so far and it really brings the leather back to life. The dye is actually very very mild and the cleaning solution does about 80% of the work in this process. Application is easy and it doesn't stick. I haven't added the last stage yet - the sealer - I am very impressed thus far. My seats look almost brand new again with noticeably fewer creases, tighter wrap around the cushions and enhanced colour. It even feels a lot better and more nourished. Althought not cheap at 60 quid for 4 seats, the results i have gotten on my rear seats so far are really positive. Take a look at the following before and after pics below taken with my crummy 2MP iPhone camera. I highly recommend this product and the supplier too....delivery was next day! +++ Rear Passenger-side Seat... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3407/...c11503caa4.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3304/...c9af94867b.jpg Rear Middle Seat... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3585/...e32fe2a2a0.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3379/...5aa2affdc8.jpg Rear Drivers-side Seat... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3327/...f001a7e20c.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2483/...g?v=1244146256 |

After seeing it today, wow. In fact the whole interior was good. Not an Icefreak myself but nice to see a well thought out install. Yes, chrome knobs are better, fnar.

After Oli's recommendation I got a kit from Woolies for Projekt AnA,
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1285513371 After cleaning the front seats I had a very dirty cloth, http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1285513371 One of the front seats after application of the dye, http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1285513371 And after application of the sealing past and a buff up, http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...3&d=1285513347 One of the rear seats, http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...4&d=1285513347 All in all easy to use and while they wern't as worn as Oli's they were different front to back and driver to passenger side. Now they are all the same. +++:) |
Nice results there mike - also big thumbs up on the seats...truly unique! +++
|
Wow that looks great Olie and Mike will have to try out on my drivers seat and compare with the gliptone I've been using+++

What colour is my leather?

It's on the inside page of your service book and in the tyre well in the boot.
Here is one decoded by IT |
Thanks Mike
Got loads of info except what I needed! The paint (LZ5L/LZ5L) and leather (N5D/WJ) only comes up with N5D as valcona, but the rest is 'code not found'. Any ideas? The paint is the same code as IT's example, but it doesn't say what it was. |
check here for interior codes:
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showpost....58&postcount=1 and your paint code is here: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=186 Ming blue.... One of my favourites... +++ |
Thanks guys!
That's the S8 sorted, but I thought I'd do the A8 too. Paint colour isn't on the list: LY7R? It's a very pale blue - almost silver in some light. |
I tried the Woolies stuff too

Not so good on a light coloured leather - the thing I really wanted to sort out was the mess made by a kiddy seat on the rear o/s seat. But the driver's seat was also a little tired. My pics aren't as detailed as Oli's, but a before and after of the 2seats shows the difference. And, as Oli says, they feel much better too. There was a particularly dry section on the driver's seat that is now almost as new.

Trick of the trade once seats are clean... Use gliptone or similar "conditioner" in direct sunlight. Keep applying it, and you will find that the intense heat with the conditioner "pops" the creases out. :) |
I used the same Woolies kit that Oli used at the begining of this thread
|
So it's not shifting the mark from the car seat? Is the leather damaged, or really dirty there?
|
You can see the marks on the back of the seat if you closely at the photo. It doesn't appear to be dirt, more like scratching that's taken the colour away from the leather. It's better than before the treatment, but still visible.
|
Try going over the area again with more colour?
|
Oli, Jim, Mike,
I'm thinking of this kit too, but my fundamental problem is that I don't believe in miracles :) Does this stuff work permanently and long term? Can I drive in white shirt after doing this thing? How does your leather look now? |
Notorious im thinking the same thing i would like this kit but i dont want it to rub off after a few weeks or worse if your going out somewhere with a white shirt and it ends up dirty,
how durable is it when its done ? |
Hi guys - yes it really does last very very well...and is still looking good today.
I had no problem with the dye Sergey and my interior is black :) Oli |
Mine's good too! No 'white shirt' problems as the sealer seems to really do its job and the leather is still looking good. You'll see that I didn't get miracles on a very badly marked area, but overall I'm very pleased with the result
|
Hey Jim,
Thanks for this. Just because your color is not black could you please explain how you ordered the kit from Woolies? On their web site they want 'sample' if color is not black. My interior color is known as Platinum and Audi interior code WF, but I'm not sure this will make any sense for Woolies. Many thanks. |
Go under a front seat or take out the rear bench seat and see if you can find a bit of leather to cut off to send to them. They will then match it
|
I took a tiny slither from under the rear bench
|
Cheers guys. I'm going to take the sample today.
