A8oc Meet Report

Thanks to everyone for a great day out! Tony & Mike for orgainsing the meet and everyone else who came. It was good to put names to faces and perv over some lovely '8s.

James and Neil - Thanks for coming over to mine and picking me up for the convoy down today, it must have been horrible to see the A8 parked up in the drive in that state! (For those of you that don't know since my last post in this thread the A8 was involved in an accident last night and thats why it wasn't able to make it to the meet, I am taking the day off tomorrow to get it back on the road asap, aim to by Friday)

Sorry to go off topic, anyway. Great day out and I can't wait for pics. Will upload a few I took in the next few minutes. +++

P.S James - Your car is an absloute stunner, when looking at pictures I did prefer your final editions, but in the flesh its a completley diffrent story. The stance on the car was so much more than perfect, I couldn't believe how good it looked following it down. Easily the best looking and most tastefully modded '8 I have ever seen +++

Tony - The best sounding V8 I have ever heard, I want it!

This has been photoshopped... I can tell by the pixels and that I have seen some photoshops elsewhere :)

Couldn't resist it!

Just in the door 10 minutes after driving up the road using the wee man's iPod and speakers for the ICE (bloody MMI!)

billblank 7th June 2009 08:01 PM

Ditto what Singh said and thanks for the Barbie, those who played mother and didn't give me food poisoning are appreciated.

I want James's S8 in my study and whilst I would not go as extreme as him it's definitely made me want sport suspension if not coilovers all round. Ah well, budget will determine.

Tony was not a brummie, much to my disappointment. :D

The sight of Mikes hair at nine in the morning, flapping romantically in a force nine gale as he filled a bucket to wash his car after driving through a puddle. This will truly live with me for ever.

Watching Oli drive through standing water on the M1 at naughty speeds and lazily twitching from side to side. Then following him. "sod it, it'll be a very good looking crash and the look on the tow truck drivers face when he see's what he has to try and winch out of the ditch should be amusing"

A dog called Diesel sniffing my balls whilst Mike talks about polish and rubbing. Oh yes. Haven't enjoyed a sunday that much since Father Flannegan passed away.

Ian in the back of mine sniffing the air as if wine tasting. "Ahhhh, gearbox"

Dave diagnosing a stilleto as the cause of my broken rear vent. The boy's a psychic I tell you. He likes his peppered steak slices as well. He saved them several times from Ian's brake testing. I now know why my wife sometimes whimpers. One forgets how quick they are.

Builder22 "Oh no, I'm not a builder" ????? Lovely to meet you and your brother by the way. Thanks for talking to me, not knowing anyone was a pain at first :)

Ben Williamson, Ian and Dave, thanks for giving mine the once over. That would be a remap, sports cat mit ludicrous exhaust, Sport/S8 suspension, xenons, brembo's and various interior updates to smarten it up a bit instead of an S8 on the shopping list then.

Thanks to Singh and his friends for being annoyingly young. In my day we lived in hole in t' road etc... Nice car, me bitter?

Ian for showing me his diesel, nice.

Must go, need wine. See you all soon :)

Bill

Thanks all for a great day too and thanks to the ever late god of nice weather for what turned into a sunny day eventually!
Big thanks to all for turning up and for all the effort everyone made, was a great turnout :D Particular thanks to Tony, Mike, Matt Tobes, Steve for all your hard work and organisational efforts, and for James for not stopping to clean your car once on the way to the meet

Just like to say thanks to the organisers for doing such a good job+++

Sorry for being late and having to shoot off early, but was nice to meet the peeps I had chance to talk to and the cars to look at.

Look forward to the next one (this time will tell the wife to **** off - OK, perhaps not:tuttut:) and will be there at the start.

Again, cheers:D

What can I say guys? What a superb day.

Despite being run off my feet, and seeming to run from pillar-to-post all day, I feel that the day was a great success. Despite the weather (I'm now convinced that God is in fact a woman, who despises cars :p), the turnout was fantastic.

What was shown yesterday, by all who turned up, was a great commitment to the A8OC. Willing to turn up despite what your guts may have told you (James must have been up until silly o'clock this morning cleaning his '8 after it's day out :D), and fighting against adverse weather conditions to get there. I'm sure it came across many minds to turn around and go home.

I personally want to thank you all for making the day worthwhile. You may have seen me breathe a sigh of relief at the end of the day, which really was the pinnacle of a lot of hard work carried out by a few individuals. And I'd like to thank each of them personally:

Botang - Top BBQ Chef (I did notice Boyd giving some assistance ;) )
Tobes - Meet Photographer
Mike - Events Secretary - a great start to the A8OC social calendar
Steve - top location selector :D

I cannot wait for the next event, and now need to put together an article for Audi Driver magazine +++

I will do a full write up soon, but for now here's a few of my favourite shots of the day +++

Message from Ireland :)

Hey guys,

Thanks for a great day yesterday. I’ve never met such a welcoming, knowledgably and passionate bunch of guys before.

Many thanks to all for the advice/ counseling on the gearbox issues I was offloading. Ben @ AVP is hard at work on the car at the moment. I’ve traveled back to Ireland (work commitments) but the brother is able to bring the car home tomorrow when all is back together again.

Ian and Dave @ A8 Parts have come up trumps again with a few bits and bobs (Tony as you said yesterday membership has its advantages… :)).

The pictures are great BTW.

The only real problem with meets like this is that a person can get very jealous of other folks cars, not to mention some of the kit you have in them.

Anyway it was great to meet you all and hopefully we’ll be around for next year.

Take care,

Builder22 (aka Niall)

Meaty meet

Thanks guys for a great meet. Clearly a lot has gone into the organisation and execution and it made for a really great day (or two for some of you).
It was good to meet everyone and since getting back I've been thinking of questions I should have asked and cars I should have peered (or is that perved Singh) at more closely. Still that's a good reason to attend the next meet. I look forward to it and promise next time to pay attention and not stand around chatting and wondering what the hell that pane is doing flying around and around... OK now I know, the photo. Apologies all around.
If you want I can do the photoshopping for you (my work speciality). I can dissapear four nutters and materialise two 8's so no one will be any the wiser,
The pictures are great, the cars fantastic, everyone so freindy and Daves must be the only Deisel anyone has put into an S8 without first opening the filler cap. Woof woof!
Cheers everyone

CliveH 8th June 2009 06:36 PM

Well done to the organizer's, hope I can make it to the next meet with a fixed motor.

Yes, that's my intention too, after my engine had a little crash, but still don't know exactly what was happening.. I'll see the car on Friday, so there's two days left to make thoughts about it :D

So now, at first I want to thank all of you for your warm welcome!!
Especially Oli, who gave me a lift up and down from London to the meet and gave me much information for my trip! THANKS!!!!!

Your meeting was a great experience, I got to know new people and so friendly individiuals, I'm completely stunned!

Your 8s are very nice and I think you would very much like it to come down to the international meeting in August (16th to 18th) located at the lovely Edersee near Kassel, almost in the middle of Germany.
map

There you can hear some real sports-exhausts (BN-Pipes), that might smash you down.
The experience to go on the streets with a sports-character will also fascinate you, furthermore you can go to Vmax on the Autobahn :)

You all are invited to come down!!!!!!!!!

If you need any information about the hotel (I think 80% of this hotel is for us at this weekend), about anything you need to know, just give me a shout..!
We have a deeply committed female event-manager, managing everything for a successfull meeting.

Just let me know, if you are able to come to the meet and I'll give you some information. But you have to know, that space at the hotel is limited, so a quick decision makes it easier ;)

Hope to hear you anyway!!!

Greeetz from London,

Chris.

No worries at all mate - it was a pleasure having you on the day and getting to know more about A8-Freunde and 8s in Germany in general! +++

I'd just like to echo all the comments on the thread and say congratulations to the organisers and thanks for a great day out.

The standard of the cars was brilliant, all individual as well. A very enjoyable day (even though I spent most of it chasing my 1 year old around the car park) and a good laugh.

Thanks again. I'll post the pics and video when I get them off the cameras.

Was a great day, some good time to catch up while the skies cleared and meet a few of the guys.

Though... I'm still awaiting my prize for the quietest exhaust at the meet (I assume it's something more than ridicule!) :D

2nd prize – Recognition as first of the losers!

3rd prise – Immunity from pointing and laughing! http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/images/smilies/1.gif

We don't need the A8OC to have a good meet. Me and Neil are more then willing to help organise it it's just no one expressed any interest. :(

Conan_the_Librarian 19th March 2011 01:04 PM

a
Amar is right but we don't want a split in the community. If the A8oc arnt going to organise a meet then maybe Amar and Neil can organise one.

Singh 19th March 2011 01:32 PM

That would be good, A8OC or Amar & the others call it what you want :p
Were all a bunch of 8 enthusiasts wanting to get together to look over each others cars and have a fun day out. The only reason I signed up to the A8OC was for a discount from A8 Parts, A8OC has brought me no other benefits. We already had a forum and great meets way before.

darrenjoe90 19th March 2011 03:51 PM

i do agree that somebody needs to organise a meet of some kind and i for one will be glad to attend +++
can we meet in bradford
