K&N Air Filter

I've bought a K&N Panel Air Filter. Before I pester my garage, how easy are they to fit? Any advice?

mattylondon 3rd March 2015 09:59 AM

If it's like other Audi's it should be a 10 minute job as it's a direct replacement. Although I've never done a D2... remove the intake ducting and remove the lid to the air filter box, this should be able to move out of the way a give access to the filter. Remove and replace with the K&N. Reinstall everything. +++

very easy indeed. just undo the jubilee clips holding the hard pipe from the airbox to the throttle body and the undo the 4 screws holding the top of the airbox on.

lift off lid.

remove the original filter and replace with shiny K&N.

all you need is a screwdriver really :)

Phil303 3rd March 2015 10:12 AM

Great, I think even I should be able to manage that. The sharp, pointy end of the screwdriver is the bit you hold, right?

AndyCaCa: I noticed your car open and possible S8 rummagings going on last Saturday morning on my way into the city. I very nearly pulled in to say hello but the look on MrsPhil's face when I mentioned it suggested otherwise.

Is it a k and n that has to be oiled?

If it is I wouldn't if I were you. They don't filter very well and also particles of oil get all over the maf screwing it up.

Far better sticking to paper filters IMO

I have read thoughts on oiled filters. Some say don't use them, others say don't over oil them and you'll be fine.

There was even a link to k&n's site where they had posted results of the oil in their filter had how it (apparently) stayed in the cotton and didn't clog up the MAF.

I think it is an oiled filter - waiting for it to arrive.

i was fitting new door card clips and playing with an old head unit :)

Air filter changed successfully, thanks for the advice.

If you knew how adverse and generally ham-fisted I am with car maintenance and DIY, you'd appreciate how much of an accomplishment this is for me.

I reckon that's untapped an extra 200bhp.

Delboy 5th March 2015 02:28 PM

Good stuff, Any change to the induction sound?

When do you chaps fancy having that mini meet we talked about?

Phil303 5th March 2015 03:43 PM

Not that I've noticed but then I haven't driven it yet. I'm doing a run up to Leeds tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see if it makes any discernible difference.

Meet:Anytime really.

Nice that has the potential to get messy.

What about this weekend?

Can do a breakfast meet Saturday morning, that works good with my schedule as Sunday I'm busy.

Delboy 5th March 2015 05:54 PM

Saturday is doable for me, any place in mind?

brasiliangringo 5th March 2015 06:16 PM

K&N - the tuning worlds example of what can be sold when the marketing works, because everything i have ever read about the product functionally in independent tests suggest they are a waste of time.

mattylondon 5th March 2015 06:22 PM

Somewhere half way?

Bridge Street car park in Loddon, 9.00am?

There is a cafe across the road, open from 7:30am, for bacon roll, cup of tea or something. I've never been but heard it's popular.
